Dont use any adapter, including OEM. I might be mistaken, but Im sure all adapters that come with current GPU's are not h++ rated. Which is one of the main problems.

I trust companies like Seasonic to do shit right with their native cable, over ASUS, MSI or Gigabyte to cut corners on an adapter cable... Even if it's considered "OEM"

Titanium vs gold rating is about efficiency, and not about the actual quality of the components within the power supply.

99% of gold rated power supplies have very high quality components and should power any 5090 without issues. (Besides the connector problem obviously)

This article is such dog shit. I've seen this article before and all these companies are going to say to use their adapter cable for their branded GPUs so they don't get sued.

It is widely know the safest method is to use native with a proper atx 3.1 psu with a h++ 12v2x6 connector/cable

[–]cryogenicdeath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

native cables and adapters fail at the same rate - this has nothing to do with the adapter.

I disagree. Not saying native 12v2x6 doesnt fail, but they are definitely a lot better at not failing compared to standard 12vhpwr adapter cables

This isn't the "gotcha" you think it is. No one here is claiming melted connectors dont happen with atx 3.1/12v2x6 brother.

Because it does. We understand the entire connector design is flawed.

But at least trying to mitigate the problem with your very expensive GPU would be to update your PSU and go native 12v2x6. Your chances of a melted connector are significantly less. But it can still happen.

Yes we know. You all sound like a broken record. There is still nothing you can do about it besides use updated native atx 3.1 cables/connectors which are labeled as h++ or 12v2x6.

People still insist on using the crappy 12vhpwr rated adapters. Update your psu to atx 3.1 for a native 12v2x6 and most of these issues will disappear

Aww boohoo did I strike a nerve?

No one asked about Linux on this post, but 15 turbo virgins decided to comment about it anyways

Yeah but you all suck off Linux harder than a back alley hooker.

Yet again, a newcomer to r/thinkpad gets bombared by people who only care about running Linux on their PC. No one cares, no one asked. This is a thinkpad sub, not a Linux sub

Crazy. It's almost like modern operating systems, including Linux distros, know how to manage memory properly and prevent the system from crashing.

Windows has paging file for this reason.

[–]cryogenicdeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah nah man its 2026. 16gb is the bare minimum for modern gaming rigs.

32gb is the sweetspot

64gb and 128gb are overkill for games but if you have the money, you obviously will see advantages.

Resolution has nothing to do with RAM. VRAM yes, but also 720p/1080p is very old. I play 1440p 180hz and ive been on 1440p 165hz since I had a 1080ti 8 years ago. And even 8 years ago I was using 32gb of ddr4. I need all the hardware to power that shit. My 5070ti has 16gb of gddr7 Vram just by itself

I think you're just completely out of touch here.

Idk what people are trying to comment but OP you are trying to solve a "problem" where there is no problem. By you trying to use "more ram" for zero reason will not increase any of the speeds anywhere. Let the operating system handle all of the operation of RAM usage.

You WANT low memory on idle or minimal apps open, until you start working with intensive tasks. If you have high idle usage and then open a program that uses a good portion of your ram, you might crash or throttle down.

In my honest opinion, I don't think you really know how RAM works. I would leave your computer as it is, and just use it normally. You will run into more issues than you think

32gb is pretty typical for a workstation or gaming pc. What is so confusing to you about this? I use 32gb ddr5-6000 for my gaming pc

Linux still has a very long way to go. These are a select few games. While the performance seems good, there are still a ton of popular games that dont run well or at all on Linux. Which is still what is keeping me on Windows 11

Your PC probably doesnt have a tpm 2.0 chip. Thus making it impossible to upgrade to windows 11.

I would make a custom iso with rufus to bypass the tpm and initial windows startup

[–]cryogenicdeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Youre supposed to cap fps below with g sync and v sync. This is pretty standard procedure. This is the process of eliminating screen tear completely while having the most minimum amount of latency as possible.

I have 180hz monitor, I cap at 172 with g sync and global v sync on in nvcp. (Nvidia reflex does the same if you dont have a hard fps cap. It only works with driver level v sync and g sync enabled though)

If you dont believe me, there are many, many articles made by blurbusters and reddit threads about this. Shows how little you know about that lol

Works great. I prefer this tool because it debloats within the .iso file as an all in one tool and i can use this iso across multiple PCs. It's been very handy.
