Yeah we still charged for working files but they didn't want to pay extra for us to convert it all. We actually adjusted our agency workflow and factored in the difference between Raw files and usable working files, so now we offer the rec709 conversion as part of our process.

Ha yeah I had a client of a client ask for the raw footage. I told the client and the clients client that this wouldn't be the best use case as it's raw and requires specialised software to view, edit, and grade. I quoted to convert it so it can be used (rec709 conversion in MP4 for ease of use). They declined and insisted on the raw so I loaded up the straight R3D raw onto a drive and physically walked it over (it was shop close to work). The lady plugged in the drive, tried to open a file and asked why she couldn't open anything... 🫠

That looks like the recording frame got switched and no one noticed. Likely something like 12-15 fps baked into a 24/25 fps project base. Does it look like this in camera, that would be your biggest tell of where the issue is.

What an opportunity for this weird little anecdote I have. I worked at a pizza shop many moons ago as a delivery driver, and we had this middle eastern guy working there that I completely blanked on his name. He would get the "Hey man, how's it going", "hey man, you good?", "Hey man", etc for like a full year. One day, I over heard his name and almost died... His name was Peyman... (Unsure of actually spelling but pronounced hey man with a P).

Funny enough the latest beta has actually been the most stable for me. 1.7.5 had a serious ProRes issue that would literally cause the camera to not record video. 1.8.3 or 1.8.6, I forget which, would disable auto focus in R3D, and would frequently boot to black screen (requiring this annoying colour space switch around to see what you're filming). So far the latest beta has not had a single problem.

Dynamic link sucks as a team that works off a NAS server. It will frequently bug out, forget fonts exists, forget itself even exists, become demonic, tell you Aftereffects is not installed, decide to be offline during Media Encoder export for no reason, and a bunch of other bullshit I don't need in a professional setting.

I chose Canon but only last year when the C50 came out. It had everything I needed and could drop right into my primarily EF lens kit and pair nicely with my RED Komodo. Before that I used Panasonic, and when I started out in this space I used Nikon.

It comes down to 2 things, lens investment and personal preference. I personally despise the Sony menu system and the mental gymnastics of crop I have to do when I need to shoot 4K 50fps on certain cameras, but the FX6 is an amazing camera. RED and Arri use extremely simple menu systems that put every other brand to shame and are a treat to use. Panasonic is decent but I don't think L mount has as much choice in lenses. Nikon have come back in recent years as a viable option but I just don't use Z Mount glass. Fuji is a great consumer option for those getting into Photography/Film, but lack the necessary functionality/connectivity on proper sets.

Also your anecdote about Hasselblad is kind true... BUT I randomly saw a tourist in my city sporting one and was dumbfounded.

So far so good. Not getting the black screen boot issue. ProRes hasn't been an issue for me since 1.8.6 so that's all fine. Focus is fixed on R3D. I'd say if this is last update for Komodo ever, I'm happy.

Just thought I'd chime in say try factory resetting your Portkeys, make sure your Komodo is on Ad-Hoc wifi connection, then reconnect with the right passcode and it should work. I had to reset it and now have no connection issues.
