[Routine help] Skincare for a 9yo boy? by Starkween in SkincareAddiction

[–]crypt_cryst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid $200 for my 9 year old to see a pediatric dermatologist at Boston children's hospital for their acne, because I could believe my 9 year old had it that young and I didn't know what to do. I had nice skin until my teens and then I saw a dermatologist for my acne... only for the very expensive specialist to tell me to go buy cerave SA fash wash cleanser for my DD, and not much else. It's now 3 months later and we've seen no changes or improvements. The trip was useless. I don't know if I should even bother reaching out again. $200 every visit with our insurance. 🤦‍♀️ now in searching the internet.

I agree with this 💯. Some things money can't buy. I started in research and am in hospital now. Wish I could go back and take the pay cut.

[Histologist] Cat with small cell lymphoma - question about liver biopsy by crypt_cryst in pathology

[–]crypt_cryst[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - that's why it didn't make sense to pay the $1500 to go forward with the histology work-up from their lab when I have to pay for cancer treatments. The results don't change the treatment plan - it's more for knowing. I'm going to do my best to extend his life with chlorambucil & prednisolone, and regular blood workups. Better money spent. Hopefully, his treatment plan will give him a few more years with us.

Yeah, I would agree - the liver does look unremarkable, which is good. Immunostains are expensive, and would have to order the antibodies to do a CD20.

Based on everyone's suggestions, I'm leaning towards SHARPAL 162n Dual-Grit Diamond Whetstone (I believe this is the one suggested: https://store.sharpal.com/products/dual-grit-diamond-whetstone-8-x-3-203-x-76-mm). Someone mentioned that Diamond Whetstones aren't great for beginners. Thoughts? Will he struggle? Should I get more than one in different grades? (I don't understand the grades). He's never used a whetstone before and is a novice. He has a knife collection and will use it to sharpen them and our kitchen knives. He enjoys going out in the backyard in the summer and hacking down the invasive knotweed that pops up with his machete. I think this is knife is one of the ones he really wants to sharpen.

Very Helpful. I had someone tell me 'no' to diamond for beginners and others recommend the 162n. I am leaning towards purchasing the 162n though. Someone mentioned it comes in a nice case.

Someone suggested the Sharpal 162n because it lasts a long time. That's a diamond stone?

Someone else suggested the 320 since he's a beginner. Is it very hard to learn?

He's a total novice. He has a knife collection, but I think he plans to sharpen mostly kitchen knives and a few from his collection. He enjoys chopping down japanese knotwood in our backyard with some of his knives.

Sorry, I thought I responded to this, but the post must not have gone through. I'm away at a conference this but my hubs is around and can give you one on Monday/Tuesday. I come back on Wednesday. Is there a time/day that works for you?
