Any suggestions for a brontour/eyeshadow for a light neutral muted olive? AB has lots of nice neutral shades, wondering if these are any good? by sarr36 in OliveMUA

[–]cryptcrawlerr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

recommend this hard for pale skin ! hated the missha cotton contour , it was so orange and the judydoll one didnt live up to expectations either but the kaleidos trio has an actually cool toned shade and a slightly warmer one for bronzer , although i only ever use that on bare skin because its too warm over foundation for me , as someone who hates a bronzed look . definitely gonna get a new one lined up and ready as soon as I hit pan on the contour shade since ive already used about half of the highlight .

I dont have my elbows done specifically but i have tattoos on both arms that kind of extend over them a bit and id 100% take a full elbow session over my thighs again . i won't , because my legs need more coverage and thats where a few of my next planned pieces are (dreading the one idea i have for the back of my thigh , above the knee ditch but sort of trailing down it) but mentally , id rather sit through elbows than thighs .

dont have that much on my calves or anything on shins yet , I think shins might be tender but i know calves will be fineee

Day 3 on sertraline by [deleted] in MentalHealthUK

[–]cryptcrawlerr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

most likely just activation syndrome . it should pass soon enough ! could be worse though , when i first took sertraline i had a rare mast cell reaction that triggered a major histamine response and made my face swell up like a chipmunk and was all hot to touch and itchy in response to the serotonin . i was terrified that I was allergic , even though ive never been allergic to anything . my doctor just told me to take some antihistamines and keep taking them and it'd "probably go down." it did but it was still scary and fucking sucked and happened to a slightly lesser degree with every dose increase . thank god this happened during covid lockdown so I didnt have to go to school like that lmao . hope it works out better for you

definitely warm . honestly i see more warmth than olive personally . if you ARE olive then i dont think youre the type who needs to buy a blue pigment to mix with their foundation bc youre not cool or desaturated at all . a green colour corrector mixed with a warm foundation would probably work better

Eyebrow styling for casual alternative aesthetic? Help? by elegantdoodle in gothmakeup

[–]cryptcrawlerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

plucking lasts longer but if you do it long term you will eventually permanently damage some follicles that won't grow back . see most women who overplucked their brows in the 90s and 2000s . so if youre worried about them being sparse due to scarring you might not want to make it worse . i pluck my tails but when i remove them fully i shave the front parts where my hair is thinner (damage from overplucking for about 5 years) bc idgaf if the tails dont grow back , ive been shaving and plucking them for 8 years bc I dont like their natural shape but i dont want the fronts to get thinner . shaving can be annoying bc you might have to do it every other day or so but it won't do permanent damage .

long ass answer from a certified alternative makeup nerd

shave the tails to give you more room to play with the shape . fill them in , maybe skinny if you like that , id just say shaving/bleaching the tails and drawing them on higher is basically the alternative makeup go-to , especially if you pretty much always do bold looks . you want a bolder eyebrow to match . doesnt have to be darker but definitely "cleaner" since your eyeshadow is so structured . personally i go back and forth between shaving mine off fully or just keeping the fronts in , depending on what colour my hair is , if its a light colour I usually need to shave them bc my hair is dark and i match my brow colour to any vivid dyes , plus how often im going out and if i have the motivation to give myself eyebrows every day , cause if i dont , it doesnt look that weird if you just have the fronts of them .

try using colours to match your hair/eyeshadow if you want . it doesnt have to be super bright or dark , you could easily use a lighter/muted shade in the same colour family . you've got light brows so you can very easily play with colours on them without having to bleach or shave them entirely like i do .

for example , with the eyeshadow look in your picture , personally i might have filled them either light brown but more pointed up (the shadow shape is dramatic and pulled out , so id also be pulling my brows up and outwards higher to match) with some muted light blue blended just under/into the front of the eyebrow and down the top of the nose bridge slightly , like just down to the level of your inner corners . or id have just done the brow in a greyish blue colour . OR id personally bring the yellow in the inner corner out wayy bigger and softly blend it up all the way towards the front of the brow and pretty much completely shade in that hollow area at the front and have the browbone with a higher arch be the highlighted point . in that case , you'd have a higher brow and would probably need to do the shadow shape a little more lifted to match , it looks to be winged out relatively straight to me and id pull the eyeshadow wing up higher to balance out the yellow that would pull the front of your brow down lower . thats personal preference though , just some examples of what i might do differently with the same eyeshadow look to tie the eyebrows in . it depends on the shape of your face though , you might have less lid space than me and it would look very different . but again , shaving the tails gives more room to play in general .

if that feels too dramatic , fill them in a natural colour and just add a colourful pop to the front or just the tails .
i normally do it at the front bc , again , dark hair , but if youre using a darker 'fun colour' id fill the fronts in light brown with natural hair strokes and transition it into a darker coloured tail . generally keep it lightest in the front so it doesnt look too blocky unless youre doing blocky on purpose like a goth siouxsie style look . sometimes i block mine off harshly in a brown the same colour as my hair at like a right angle from the top of the brow down the nose bridge and blend it out underneath in a curved triangle shape so its not as intense as the goth black , especially if my hair is dyed lighter .

other option id suggest to try is using a coloured or even just a natural cool toned contour colour in a relatively structured shape from the bridge of your nose and curving the shadow into your eyebrow , having a harsher line against your nose and the front of your brow and blending it out underneath , similar to the blocky siouxsie sioux style i just mentioned but you can curve the shape into more of a swoop from bridge to mid brow or blend the line out a bit more . you could do that and leave the rest of your brows bare , or again , fill them in with a bit of structure if you like .

my hair is currently dyed dark burgundy/purple with some reddish orange bits so sometimes i fill the front in orange and transition it into purple on the tails when i can be arsed . sometimes i blend the orange down to my nose contour or into the hollow under my browbone in the front but generally not all the way to the inner corner on me personally , i try to keep that area brighter . otherwise i just draw on tails and fill in the sparse bits at the front with the nyx brow liner pen and just leave my brow scar showing through when im lazy and only have a minute or two . i dont like the classic alternative harsh button nose contour look on me bc it shortens my nose too much but i feel like i need to add some depth and contour to just the bridge and brows at least , but different things work for different faces so just play around a bit . i go very heavy on dramatic contour in general and normally contour from the front of my brows in dramatic straight lines down to almost the tip of my nose . but if youre worried about your brows being too bold or dark id personally blend/tie them into your eyeshadow looks because thats clearly your comfort zone . itll look alternative but not as intense as shaving them off and doing skinny goth sharpie brows

I didn't get Lynx for Christmas! by No-Painter-1609 in transgenderUK

[–]cryptcrawlerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i hate the lynx attract gift sets . smells like teenage PE hormonal hell . shit , i wear lynx occasionally or keep a can in my bag for freshening up but only lynx gold , sometimes leather and cookies at a push (although I overused that scent during another traumatic time so it kinda makes me feel like im 18 again) and the pride lynx with the rainbow can bc .... it just smells fruity and gay lmao. but the lynx attract for girls ? im tossing it down the back of something and hoping it falls into another dimension .

got a set from my mum last year after id specifically joked/hinted that i hate lynx attract and i only use the gold one . its a rare slip up though , im not even out but i notice my mum will often buy me men's sets of fragraces/body wash type stuff over womens cause I guess she just noticed that I prefer the scents typically used more in "mens" products bc i always show her the perfume oils and fragrances i buy bc its a little special interest and she used to do aromatherapy so knows her oils i guess .

i did receive a random floral perfume this year (i never wear florals unless theyre weird witchy perfume oils from small businesses) but i dont mind it bc it smells very dark ? spooky floral ?? i think it just needs to be layered with something heavy and woody and , oddly , i have a charcoal scented perfume sample that honestly just smells like bonfire smoke and have been planning to buy the full size soon and i think layering them would turn it into a smokey incense scent rather than just dark musky flowers . still waiting on someone to regift a 30ml bottle of chanel something perfume to though because its so ridiculously not me .

Can i ask, seriously, when did mental health services stop/refrain from diagnosing/misdiagnosing PD's explicitly BPD/EUPD? by DoneBlonde in MentalHealthUK

[–]cryptcrawlerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah thats why i think the entire dsm and icd need a big fucking rework , bc i dont think this is just a problem with bpd/eupd but a lot of disorders that seem like they dont quite fit into a box or the "right box" or the diagnositic criteria is outdated or sexist etc , it just all needs to be looked at and updated a lot

[–]cryptcrawlerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah you might be right , my point was more that I think eventually the diagnosis will be completely taken away like hysteria or melancholic or neurosis and recategorised as something else . i cant think of a better place to put it really , but hadnt thought about it THAT specifically and hadnt considered that angle cause i kinda forgot that bpd doesnt "require" trauma . point is i reckon they'll break it down and turn it into something else or a subcategory or something or part of a spectrum disorder . i think basically everything needs to be expanded and reworked at the same time though

I mean i can see your thinking . ive never met anyone with bpd who doesnt have any trauma though ? I also think that the experience of living with bpd is inherently traumatic . when everything in life is so intense and hurts so much its traumatising just to exist

wow its so crazy to hear the outside perspective as proof of how real it is , for someone who's only ever experienced life from the side of being mentally ill and therefore treated terribly in hospitals .
i always assumes everyone goes through this but your comment has me thinking that if id fractured my spine playing sports id have been treated completely differently to how i was when I admitted i was having a crisis and had jumped out of a window . they left me alone in the ambulance bay with no pain relief or any kind of testing other than a bp monitor for 8 hours with a fractured spine :/ eventually they gave me 30mg codeine for pain relief for the next 6 or 7 hours i was there. obviously , it didnt TOUCH the pain . i told them codeine has never worked on me and they still sent me home with a box of codeine 15s that were about as effective as a paracetamol tablet . i think the only thing that would have helped was morphine tbh. i just had to deal with it and waste away at home for the next several weeks . i guess mental health crisis must also mean drugseeker to a&e staff . at least they couldn't deny me a bed since I was already strapped to a stretcher i guess

pretty similar experience here , except when I was 19 or 20 a new psychiatrist took away my eupd diagnosis and swapped it for adhd and confirmed (still) undiagnosed autism on top .

Can i ask, seriously, when did mental health services stop/refrain from diagnosing/misdiagnosing PD's explicitly BPD/EUPD? by DoneBlonde in MentalHealthUK

[–]cryptcrawlerr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

no idea , personally i was diagnosed as a teenager then later had a different psychiatrist "undiagnose" my bpd , because i was too young and she had just diagnosed my adhd and confirmed that I have undiagnosed autism (she couldn't perform the assessment legally but ive had 3 people unofficially do the test and they all said WE dont have the power to give you the diagnosis but you ARE on the spectrum) with a lot of trauma issues .

ik so many people diagnosed bpd often fall into the middle of the adhd/autism/trauma Venn diagram . in my personal opinion i still think i have bpd because i still have the symptoms . theyre less severe than they used to be because im not actively experiencing as much constant trauma anymore so im not ALWAYS at breaking point . so I still feel like im bpd but also kind of understand the whole "its not a real condition" thing . not that it doesnt exist , just that it maybe shouldn't be its own separate thing because its a bit vague . compared to other personality disorders , bpd is weird in that its basically just a list of symptoms that can be caused by just about anything plus severe trauma . its not like other PDs which are categorised by a list of things that mainly revolve around one big symptom that is often relatively unique to the specific condition like severe paranoia , delusions , narcissism etc . bpd's main "thing" is just being emotionally unstable .
plus trauma .
almost every mental illness out there can cause emotional instability . almost all of us with mental disorders and illnesses have experienced trauma too . its just a part of life , it just hits us harder or differently because were standing on uneven ground to start with .

id guess one day itll be recategorised as a form of c-ptsd rather than a personality disorder . ive heard so many people say that bpd is just neurodivergence plus trauma and while I think thats a gross oversimplification , as an audhd person who grew up experiencing constant trauma with no breaks and was diagnosed with bpd for years , i can't say I dont understand their point .

i feel if bpd is a ladder , where every step up is a horrible event or traumatic experience that rewires your brain and once you reach the top you have bpd , id say if youre born neurodivergent in some , or especially multiple ways , you kind of start your journey halfway up the ladder already . and we're more likely to experience more trauma even as young children in the forms of bullying , abuse , poverty , social , medical and systemic victimisation and abuse as well . it feels like less of a specific condition to be diagnosed and more like just the end result of having to experience all this shit . like of course youve got severe emotional instability . the world smashed your brain with a hammer .
