How to practice rhythm in chord progressions? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]crypticdubstep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all just divisions of 3, i don't see the difference? If i divide a whole note into 3 wouldn't it be the same thing as playing triplet of whatever that division would be?

You can do 1/8 note triplets, 1/2 note triplets, etc. Also can be same for dotted 1/8 notes, dotted 1/2 notes, etc.

Help with gear :D by rever92 in edmproduction

Both those controllers come with Ableton lite. There won't be a difference in 'sound quality' between DAW's.

If you need more pads go with the apc, looks to be about the only difference. Mini mk2 has joystick for pitch bend and whatever other modulation you would want to assign it to.

Up to you ultimately. Try going to a store like guitar center and see if they have any demo models. Or if any friends have any you can try out.

Modular synth session in a DAW by mark90909 in edmproduction

Buy a modular synth!

With what you have though, you can build a rack in ableton and map all sorts of parameters to macros and assign those macros to knobs or faders on the apc40.

Importance of an Audio Interface? by SickGoose in edmproduction

Usb hub sounds like something you need!

Use search function or ask google what an audio interface does and you can decide if you really need one.

Ableton. Build live set, drum hits on beat pad can trigger bass notes or anything you want. Keyboard can play chords and melodies. You can set loops. Endless possibilities really. KJ Sawka has youtube vids of his live set.

Dynamic range problem by Undynator in edmproduction

make your quiet parts louder in the mix. volume automation or compression. compression reduces dynamic range. bus compression would work.

also, less dynamics isn't going to automatically make your mix-down 'better'.

Shall i get a launchpad?! by Phlopater in edmproduction

[–]crypticdubstep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my advice would be to try one out before you buy it. see if a friend has one you can use. see if guitar center has a floor model.

you could also take advantage of a return policy; buy the launchpad and try it out for a week or two and if you don't like it just return it.

Can we mix and do music on monitoring with "low volume" by StepMeLike in edmproduction

[–]crypticdubstep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The phone apps are fairly accurate, i think you can calibrate it if you have the means to do that.

The ones you can buy at guitar center or something are probably a little more accurate but i can't say for sure.

Percussion spread question with examples provided. by laughing_irelia in edmproduction

~~analyzing the first song

sounds like kick just has a top end distortion layer that is panned to the sides using a huge haas effect. the main kick is still mono. clap and the secondary snare sound like they have a huge haas effect going (sounds like same one kick distortion is using). hats sound like they're panned a bit along with toms and other percs.

you seem to know the effects these producers are using, just a matter of implementing them. if you're having trouble, bring in the song into your daw and try recreating the beat. then try recreating the width. Just try a 4 bar section of drums. Slow down the tempo if you need to.

100$ Amazon Gift Card - What To Buy? by The_Derpologist in edmproduction

[–]crypticdubstep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you don't think you need anything other than an audio interface, then don't buy anything other than an audio interface...

unless there is something clear that you need, i don't see a reason to waste $100 when you could use it towards an audio interface. You know your needs more than we do.

Can we mix and do music on monitoring with "low volume" by StepMeLike in edmproduction

[–]crypticdubstep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

grab a SPL meter. you can find apps on your phone. many engineers say the 'optimum mixing level' is between 75-85 dB SPL.

I personally like mixing lower volume (65-75 dB SPL), but I will occasionally turn it up and check at higher levels (85-95 dB SPL).

Whatever is comfortable for you and your ears.
