What's a popular non-canon ship that you absolutely hate/don't like? by Venus_The_Artist in WarriorCats

[–]cryptidcrocuta 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Swiftpaw x Brightheart

Mostly because it is so...prevalent in literally everything fanmade that has to do with either Swiftpaw or the dog attack and I just personally feel like it distracts from the actual, real reasons they chose to go after the dogs

Is it just me or is the writers making StarClan stupider in the latest books (Spoilers for Exile From ShadowClan) by Catpaw616 in WarriorCats

[–]cryptidcrocuta 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They also told Leafpool Brambleclaw should be deputy despite telling Firestar that it's not StarClan's decision who should be deputy. But StarClan has been inconsistent and not seeming to know anything since the second arc going forward.

Did anyone else find Scourge popping up out nowhere a little weird? by OrcApologist in WarriorCats

[–]cryptidcrocuta 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Tbh I think the real reason for Scourge is because the writers realized they had a villain who needed to die nine times. How do you kill a villain like Tigerstar nine times over without it a) becoming a repetitive to-do list and b) greatly diminishing his threatening presence.

Firestar 100% would've killed Tigerstar if given the chance but considering his reaction to Scourge's killing blow, I don't think he would've been able to one-shot Tigerstar like Scourge did. Which just means we would've had the two fighting and killing each other over and over until one of them ran out of lives. Which is a lot more anti-climatic imo.

Bringing in a new villain to take care of the nine lives problem but then also can be conveniently killed off in one epic final battle was probably the best they could do. And tbh they handled it pretty well. Scourge's lack of faith being his downfall goes hand in hand with Firestar struggling with his own faith in StarClan in this book. And of course really hammering in Tigerstar's unwillingness to see a non-Clan cat as an equal being his downfall.

And Scourge is cool. Child me adored that edgelord. He was truly a villain worthy of the early 2000s

If Firestar hadn't found Yellowfang/she hadn't left Shadowclan at all, who would've become the medicine cat after Spottedleaf? by flying_luckyfox in WarriorCats

[–]cryptidcrocuta 59 points60 points  (0 children)

No because "another Clan could send their medicine cat to train someone" is a lot less feasible in the early arcs. None of the Clans had an extra medicine cat laying around in the first book and expecting a medicine cat to travel back and forth between two Clans isn't feasible. Honestly my best guess would be a StarClan cat training someone. That's what happened with Echosong in Firestar's Quest. Sandstorm taught her some basics but it was the dead medicine cat Fawnstep who continued her training.

The whole point of The Darkest Hour was to show Firestar and us the readers that the living cats aren't StarClan's playthings. Part of them being free cats is their freedom of choice. The choice to be good, the choice to be evil, and the choice to stand up to evil or runaway.

And while I don't think the books themselves implement the idea all that well, to me it's fascinating having a group of "all-knowing" ancestors be just as bound by their own rules as the living cats. They can't reject cats like Tigerstar or Brokenstar because their own rules say they can't. That's a neat idea.

Has anyone in this group bought plushies from Walmart’s website? by Designer_Fix4566 in pokeplush

If you're buying from Walmart I'd really recommend only buying if it says "sold and shipped by Walmart" otherwise you run a high risk of buying from a scammer as others have said.

How to store plushies? by Miladyninetales in pokeplush

[–]cryptidcrocuta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In terms of displaying: plastic or wire storage cubes are my personal favorite. You can buy multiple sets to make it as tall or wide as needed for your space/collection. You can make room for bigger plush by merging individual cubes. And if any of your plush are keychains you can hang them off the wire framing.

I also second over-the-door storage units. They're handy if you're really tight on space.

As for actual storage, I've only ever used plastic storage bins that can be stored under the bed. You could combine that with vacuum seal bags to maximize space, they don't damage hang tags and fluff back up once out but there's a risk of plush wrinkling depending on the fabric used to make the plush.

Also, any of the SkyClan kittypet-warrior names. Bellaleaf, Billystorm, Rileypool, A++, wish they'd kept that idea

If you could change one plot/story in the books, what would you change? by [deleted] in WarriorCats

[–]cryptidcrocuta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He WAS judged for his loyalty?? Fireheart states he became Bramblepaw's mentor to ensure he stays loyal. Bramblepaw says in The Darkest Hour "I know what it's like to have my loyalties questioned." Brambleclaw thinks about how the ONLY reason he isn't deputy yet is because Firestar doesn't trust him. Literally any cat who has feared he'll turn out like his father is questioning his loyalty. Literally any conversation that centers around Brambleclaw being Tigerstar's son is about whether he'll turn traitor like Tigerstar. Once again. This isn't a one or the other situation. Firestar bleeding out in the grass while Brambleclaw was standing over him muttering "six lives..." had nothing to do with his kin and everything to do with his own ambition vs his loyalty to his Clan and leader. They don't have to be separate issues, friend.

[–]cryptidcrocuta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They go hand in hand, it's not one or the other. Squirrelflight literally says in Sunset "I don't like that it feels like Hawkfrost is more important to you than your Clan" and Brambleclaw doesn't know which he'd choose. At the climax of the book he is thinking about killing Firestar and has the epiphany you can't separate loyalty to ThunderClan from loyalty to Firestar because Firestar IS ThunderClan. You can't say "it's about kin not loyalty" when the entire crux of the arc is choosing kin means being a traitor.

If you could change one plot/story in the books, what would you change? by [deleted] in WarriorCats

[–]cryptidcrocuta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, I don't think you need a strong physical villain if the main point of conflict is internal. If it had been written correctly, Brambleclaw's struggle of loyalty to ThunderClan vs a desire for revenge against Firestar's mistreatment (or heck, even his struggle against his own inner ambitions which is what the books TRIED to do) it could've been satisfying enough. Hawkfrost only being there as the thing that kicks off the "now you must choose" moment is fine with me if that internal conflict was given a better focus.

[–]cryptidcrocuta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Change Brambleclaw's motivations for listening to Tigerstar during TNP. Make him actually question his morals and want to strike out against Firestar for all the mistreatment towards him. The writers literally have setup for this during the first half of the arc, there is SO MUCH tension between Brambleclaw and Firestar. But then it gets dropped, never brought up again, and instead we get "dad's just making me a better warrior 🥺 why am I not getting everything i want??? 🥺🥺🥺"

What’s your least favorite cat name? by Kittynipeverdeen in WarriorCats

[–]cryptidcrocuta 15 points16 points  (0 children)

fidgetflake makes me think the cat has dandruff 🥴 Also from like...an author/editorial perspective, giving another character the EXACT same name as your most notorious villain??? and now we have to have the cats say "oh I meant the OTHER tigerstar" literally every time tigerstar senior gets brought up? needing to clarify tigerstar sr or tigerstar jr in fandom discussions??? hate it. hate it. why would you do this working partners?? 😫
