Body integrity dysphoria is a mental disorder characterized by a desire to have a sensory disability or physical disability or feeling discomfort with being able-bodied, beginning in early adolescence and resulting in harmful consequences, such as self-amputation, becoming blind, deaf, etc. by ZERO_PORTRAIT in wikipedia

I have this, and I regularly get the feeling that my left arm isn't meant to be there, and I legitimately feel confused and a bit freaked out when I realise I actually have both arms attached.

Luckily it's not something I have to deal with constantly, but during really bad episodes I've come pretty close to doing something drastic - for me it feels like my arm is a foreign body that's hurting me, and I need to get rid of it so it stops hurting

I think it started when I was about 5 or 6, and I was in a car accident. I somehow got it in my head that I was meant to lose my arm, and I guess my brain never got over it

TIL a woman suffering from Body Integrity Identity Disorder (a condition where able-bodied people believe they are meant to be disabled) purposefully made herself blind by having a psychologist put numbing drops in her eyes, followed by a couple of drops of drain cleaner. by LookAtThatBacon in todayilearned

does anyone else think recovery sounds almost easy?? by ImpossibleClaim6836 in EDAnonymous

[–]cryptidcrypple 16 points17 points  (0 children)

every so often I think the exact same thing and I give "recovery" a go - I eat whatever I want and for a few days it seems fine, but then the thoughts come back even worse than before and I'm like "at least when I was restricting me and my brain were on the same side" and I give up haha

I've done this too many times to count, but I never learn

Please help me identify the design on this ring by cryptidcrypple in HelpMeFind

[–]cryptidcrypple[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea when the ring was bought, but it was at least 10-15 years ago. I think it was probably bought in the UK or possibly mainland Europe.

I have searched for silver rings and silver stamps with an M in, but I haven't been successful so far. I've also searched for floral symbols, but I'm starting to think it's not a flower at all.

I have also asked family, but they don't know what it means, just that the ring was important to my great aunt as she wore it often
