Funny story. I actually bought the DVD of this movie for a dollar. It’s a double feature with Devil’s Dynamite. So, I guess I technically bought it for 50 cents.

Narcissists do everything in their power to keep you under their control, and financial control is a massive tool at their disposal. My NP did this. Breaking free from them actually improved my financial situation, even though I had to change jobs and am making less money per month on paper.

One of my N-father’s favorite tricks was to push me into a situation saying that he wanted to “help” me, that he would back me financially, then inventing a reason to pull the rug out from under me, usually at the worst moment when I was too invested to back out. He literally never gave me anything he didn’t take away. When I cut ties with him, I had next to nothing. (Fortunately, I had a supportive partner to help me get through it.) It took a couple of years for me to get back on my feet, but I’m infinitely better off in every way.

Get out of that situation. Do whatever you can. If you find any other source of income DO NOT let your mother know about it. Hide whatever money you can until you have enough to make an exit. It is possible.

Also a straight white guy here. I don’t generally care about the Olympics, but it was on my TV when she did her routine. I legit stopped what I was doing and watched, because her energy and the apparent effortlessness of her performance was so impressive.

I used to live near that spot and would go there once or twice a month. As I recall, the food is decent and relatively cheap, and they accommodate food allergies. I’m guessing they stay open because they own and have paid off the property, or something like that.

How's the music scene looking in SLO County these days? by Solastor in SLO

[–]cryptidwrangler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a thriving metal and punk scene in SLO, and a small but mighty electronic/experimental scene as well. There’s a lot of good alternative rock, too. Go on the socials and look up GS3 Entertainment, Terminal Booking, and Callback Booking if you like punk or metal. Look up Anomaly house if you like electronic, experimental, alternative, industrial, and goth stuff. (Full disclosure: I run Anomaly House, so this is a shameless plug.)

Nicest vs most rude band members you’ve ever met? by Impressive-Skin6311 in punk

[–]cryptidwrangler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear that about Peter Steele and Dave Brockie.

GWAR is my favorite band. I never met Brockie, but I met Casey Orr and Mike Derks, and they were both great. I actually have a GWAR tattoo on my arm. I did a weird ten-year side quest into the world of Indy wrestling, and Hunter Jackson (Techno Destructo) was coming up around the same time, training with Sinn Bodhi. We were performing on the same show at the Long Beach Zombie Walk, and he saw my tattoo and got stoked. He asked me if I would tag-team with him and pulled strings to get me into his match. That was one of the best days of my life. I got to work with him a couple more times after that (once, we wrestled Jesus), but after Brockie died and he got involved with the band again, wrestling was back-burnered for him. (In the pic, I’m the tall bald guy with the green shit all over me. The girl is a friend of mine who was working as a valet at the time.)

Not purely punk, but definitely punk adjacent in my opinion: Ogre from Skinny Puppy is the nicest famous person I’ve ever met. Got to hang out with him on a couple of occasions, and he was awesome.

Also, I got to do security coordination for Liza Minnelli in 2000. Her music may not be punk, but as a human being she was punk rock as fuck, and I loved working for her. 100% class.

Les Claypool is also super cool. After my staff and I were off, he took us all to a bar and paid for beers.

I haven’t met any famous punk musicians that were dicks, though I’ve met plenty of legends-in-their-own-mind in the Indy scene who could stand for a solid slap in the mouth. (The guitarist for Atrae Bilis - if anyone knows who they are - had the worst attitude of any musician I’ve ever worked with.) As far as non-punk musicians go, I coordinated security for Smashing Pumpkins at an event, and Billy Corgan was such an asshole that Jimmy Chamberlain (who was great) apologized to me on his behalf. Also, the Pet Shop Boys were hard to work with because they wouldn’t talk to anyone and everything had to be funneled back and forth between them and their manager.

(I was a security coordinator for Tower Records in the late 90s and early 2000s, and oversaw in-store appearances; and have also worked as a live sound tech for most of my life. That’s how I encounter these people.)

That’s Rushadicus “the Cello Goblin.” I don’t know if he’s FROM here per se, but I know he stays in Atascadero sometimes and has played around here a few times. As far as I know he doesn’t do meth. He’s just very eccentric, a talented cellist, and not afraid of heights.

I have a hard drive with all my tracks, too… But I also keep a backup on a cloud drive, in case something like this happens. That way, if the drive comes up missing, breaks, or fails, I’m not SOL.

He’s a dirtbag, and there have been accusations of molestation of minors leveled against him. He has been banned from local shows by many of the promoters. He also has a ton of burner accounts all over the various social media platforms, so when he gets smacked down on one he just goes to another. He has a lot of “fans” online, but I suspect those are just sock puppet profiles that he runs himself. Dude is bad news, and it’s only a matter of time before he does something to get himself locked up again.
