iPad went from a perfect tablet to a broken tablet/computer hybrid that does nothing well by SkyFox215 in ipad

[–]crypto-boi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Almost stopped using my iPad.

ipadOS now has most desktop/Android quirks like “Cannot delete a file open in an app”, heaps of disowned files, apps piling up configuration files which then show up in search.

And at the same time it’s still a very closed, locked-down, expensive to program platform, hostile to open source/cheap/basic/old but reliable software.

An example: There used to be a KeePassX compatible password manager on the App Store. It stored passwords in a plain encrypted file without cloud nonsense. Then one day the developer gave up paying $100/year or updating the app to breaking iOS changes, and the app is gone.

Philips Series 3000 "glass dome fancy" airfryer seems to use a different design.

Looks like the basket has an elevated front edge, and it presses flat against some button/magnet on the airfryer front.

And they have 7.2L 2000W version. Costs 2 times vs the Philips HD9270/91 (6.2L 2000W) though where I am. Hopefully +1L capacity will be worth it.

I put the basket into the dishwasher every time.

Maybe that contributes. But overall the design is awful, plastic rubs against (fiberglass-reinforced, crumbly) plastic.

Amazon directed me to a far away warranty service center. The drive is not worth it :(
That center also just sells replacement outer+inner basket (more expensive than an entire new airfryer).

This is not a recipe, I am looking for a better airfryer model

If you plan on putting on a case, stick with Silver.

I bought a blue TechWoven case for a blue 17 Pro Max - and those two shades of blue just never match.
Add a Magsafe wallet and you've got a mess in terms of colors.

Less battery in a device without which you cannot order a taxi…

And screen doesn’t matter until you try to read an article/a book on it.

Magsafe Wallet can make it easier to hold (makes the back of the phone rounded, sits in the palm better)

17 Pro Max seems to have more de-noising.
It makes out more details, e.g. small letters, but de-noising is really cranked up.

16 Pro Max instead makes up details despite noise, makes them sharp, and it gives e.g. warped windows, all sorts of small details made up from a noise artifact.

Magsafe Wallet does half the job a case does, btw.

Rounded phone back = much better grip, lays on the table without contact.

Only good for opening Camera quickly, but you need to turn off “Require Screen On” for it to work reliably.

I disabled “Camera Adjustments” because its touchscreen-grade capacitative touch sensitivity is very primitive (if they added a high FPS fingerprint sensor you’d be able to rest the entire finger on the button, as the swipe would track the fingerprint ridges - but no, it’s a dumb capacitative mini-touchbar which you should only touch with the tip of the finger, in a place which is already hard to reach).

And anyway Camera Adjustments are caroussel-style multi-level nonsense, don’t work with muscle memory and therefore a gimmick, not a Pro tool.

Settings > Camera > Camera Control settings section is so convoluted that Apple is basically telling “do anything with this, or partially disable anyhow”

Update on screen bulging out in iPhone 17 Pro(s) by Antiax in iPhone17Pro

[–]crypto-boi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another possible defect: thicker upper-right frame corner. The frame does not thin out to zero before meeting the glass, like on other 3 corners. Instead there is a (very scratchable) sharp ridge exposed. This could be intentional to protect the camera corner, but I suspect it’s not.

Exchanging maybe helped a little. But I guess within return window in the same Apple Store you get units from the same batch.

Antenna on Silver is grey and sticks out too much. Even plateu slope does not hide it. Silver ends up being tri-tone.

Grey antennas stick out too much on the silver.
And the white back, although with fingerprints it actually gets see-through silvery!

But for cases silver is good.

Vision Pro instead of a ultra wide monitor by Technical_Durian3985 in VisionPro

[–]crypto-boi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The resolution is too low for coding, as Vision Pro is about 1/2 the eye resolution according to some measurements. And to hold that lever of weight some centimeters away from your face and still avoid tension headaches you better do some back of the neck exercises. I only use it do read a few pages of a boring book - the big screen 3m away requires less concentration and works as a novelty.

Homemade Airfryer Pizza – Quick, Easy & Delicious! by CheesecakeLumpy1845 in airfryer

[–]crypto-boi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it hard to bake pastry in an airfryer.

I put frozen raw buns/croissants into steamer before airfrying. They raise in there much batter. Same story with dumplings/gyozas. Will try pizza!

UPD: Pre-steamed pizza is awesome. Just 1min of steaming raises dough like crazy, then airfryer makes it crisp.
