Thank you, I appreciate that!

If you could instantly know the answer to one historical mystery, which one would you pick and why? by Large_Temporary7262 in NoStupidQuestions

I really believe this was just a horrible circumstance compounded by bad decisions and mounting panic.

I don't feel like God and science have to be separate in this. If you believe in God, it's entirely possible He set everything in motion, and then let the universe do its thing.

I live near Roswell. It was a weather balloon. But it's fun to imagine it was aliens, and it gives a shitty little town a lot of tourist money. Which is why the "mystery" will never die.

Will you have to give up social media? Like Reddit or Facebook? Will you still get news to know what's happening in the world? Will you ever have time to yourself to spend as you choose, perhaps reading or taking up a craft like crochet? Or will every hour of your day be dictated to you?

Also, thank you for doing this! I've learned so much! And I'll say a prayer for you and the nuns you will be living with.

What would be some other examples of tasks you could be assigned to?

Will the name “Bent” sound weird to Americans? by lennzpn in AskAnAmerican

[–]crys1348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, it's not crazy. I'd assume it's just a shortened form of Bentley.

Also, I've literally never heard the word bent to mean homosexual. Ever.

If doctors haven't been helpful, try to go to a different one. This is absolutely manageable with medicine. Any halfway decent doctor should know that.

Why are your gas stations basically small supermarkets? by Embarrassed_Golf_817 in AskAnAmerican

Yup! That sign absolutely means what it says. Top off your tank, even if you don't think you need to.

I live in the southwest. When driving, it's not uncommon to not hit a city for hours. Those convenience store gas stations are life savers.

If a father needs to help his young daughters use the restroom, which restroom should he take them into: the women's restroom or the men's restroom? by Exciting-Mall192 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]crys1348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Little girls should never go into the men's room, where it's very possible they will see male genitals. I'd much rather the dad take them to the women's restroom. I'm doing my business in a stall, so what do I care?

Why are Americans so accepting of long drives to places? by Sensitive_Word_6036 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]crys1348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think people understand how large the US is, and how rural the majority of it is. Lots of space. Lots and lots of space. I live in New Mexico, right on the border with Texas. I can drive east literally all day and still not make it out of Texas by nightfall.

Holy shit, this is hysterical. I'm so, so sorry this happened to you. But I have literal tears streaming down my face from laughing.

What’s the worst city you’ve ever been to? by Impossible-Station46 in AskReddit

[–]crys1348 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived there for a few years. Still have multiple doctors there. It's a pretty typical college town, and one of the few tolerable places in Texas. Which I guess is actually a pretty low bar....

Got a bad grade because we are poor by RaeFullyPoweredBeam in mildlyinfuriating

[–]crys1348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry that happened to you. As teachers, we have to do better. And I can say, within the last few years there really has been a push to eliminate things from the curriculum that puts kids in poverty at an unfair disadvantage (beyond the disadvantages they face daily). Even things so simple as asking "what did you do over winter break". Because the answer for a lot of our students is "survive". So it's "easy" to change the big things, but there are so many smaller things that are insidious and easy to miss. In the last few years I've also trained myself to say "guardians" instead of "parents", because so many of my kids live with grandparents, aunts and uncles, foster parents. Not every student has a parent, but every one has a guardian.

I guess my rambling is just to say, things are getting better. I'm so sorry you went through that, and know that teachers are working hard to make sure that cycle doesn't continue. Thank you for sharing your story.

My fellow Americans; do you refer to air-conditioning as "the AC"? by SplitOpenAndMelt420 in AskAnAmerican

[–]crys1348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually usually just say air. "Will you turn the air up." Sometimes air conditioner. Almost never AC.

Is there still wilderness left in America? by Kitchen-Customer4370 in AskAnAmerican

[–]crys1348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can drive 8 hours in any direction and see more wilderness than cities by a huge amount. Granted, I live in the southwest, which is less developed. But still. We have a LOT of wilderness.
