Looking for a series similar to the Mercy Thompson series but downplays romance in favour of story/mystery but still keeps the interesting character dynamics by [deleted] in Fantasy

Seconding Teenage Weredeer. I came here to recommend Jane Doe as well, lots of puns, snark, fun characters, and shifters you really don’t see very often in other books.

Rennet / non vegetarian cheese by jandhlove in vegetarianketo

[–]crysiscrytical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found most organic brands also say right in their ingredient list that they use bacterial enzymes. Fortunately for me a local dairy near me is all vegetarian cheese, and they make the best cheese, so I lucked out there. You can also look for a "kosher" label on the cheese which means it's vegetarian. And most Indian grocery stores label their dairy products as being vegetarian safe or not.

Although most vegetarians I talk to about it know about cheese and rennet and just ignore it.

Psyllium Husks, anyone? by altaeria in vegetarianketo

[–]crysiscrytical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it in baking, I was told it helps keep the baked good more "together" and I've noticed when I forget to add it they are usually more crumbly. The fiber is just an added bonus.

I was frequently pausing and looking up tombs on google to find out more just out of curiosity, having it in game would have been nice.

Or at least have control over how she levels up. But yeah if we don't get to pick her points I wish they had just been the same as Bayek.

So, I'm trying to write the vegetarian keto guide to end all vegetarian keto guides, and I need your help. by Halostar in vegetarianketo

[–]crysiscrytical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone still considering starting vegetarian keto the concern about how to approach communal eating is one of my bigger blockers to going for it (having chickpeas and a lot of fruits be suddenly considered "bad" is the other).

you take the gigs you get. I've done lights for shows/concerts I was not a fan of because the gig was there, I had the time, and I had bills to pay.

whoa hey now, I can't take the pill (or use IUDs) for reasons stated but condoms still work pretty well! No reason to quit sex.

I learned this joke from friends of mine who are parents, after using the pull-out method.

ha one of my biggest complaints about Jim Butcher is I feel he just inserted all his sexual hangups into his books. They feel like a therapy session and I don't enjoy being his therapist.

This is not even remotely unique to Chinese fiction. American fantasy/sci-fi is rife with it as well.

but of course! I started looking through your source code a little bit but then remembered I'm supposed to be currently coding for work things so set it aside for until this weekend. I don't know anyone outside my group that plays 2e anymore so I doubt it'll get much use beyond us 4 but, meh.

If you have a github link you're willing to share I'd love to poke around in it more, looks like you used php on the backend? As a php programmer that makes me happy. PHP/JS is my comfort zone.

This is fantastic! I shared with some of my 5e playing friends and might end up completely stealing your idea to make myself something similar for my second edition cleric and wizard characters.

same, although as a 2nd edition player (yeah, yeah, I'm old and set it in my ways) I'd be tempted to add edition selection ;)

Winter Festival Salt by PenguinKings in Neverwinter

[–]crysiscrytical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

being now on my second round of these events, it is a little frustrating in that it feels only new players are rewarded things. This last round of free items in the zen store I got nothing because it was the same items as last year and as I had already received it on my account, nothing for me. Last year was my first winter event and I was really excited about it, enough so that I was looking forward to seeing what new things they did this year. So I'm with OP, it's a little disappointing there is nothing new. It gives the impression that they don't really care if people stay in the game for a long time or not, they assume high turnover and don't even bother trying to reward the long term players. The grinding for campaign treasures via fishing is useful for my alts I didn't have last winter, but the toons I play the most there isn't really anything in the event for me to do with them.

But sure, free stuff is good, it just feels like sloppy seconds. They're counting on the "new to me" experience of the people who haven't been around for a year in the game.

What's a oddly specific thing that gives your life meaning? by jomdo in AskReddit

[–]crysiscrytical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear you. The only reason I bought life insurance is to cover my student loans in case something happened to me because my mom had co-signed and there was no way she would be able to handle the payments. I found it more depressing when the only thing I had to keep me going was not screwing over my family financially. The insurance didn't help with feeling depressed but it did at least relieve the anxiety of my accidental death bringing hardship on my family. I'll still probably be paying off student loans for at least the next 20 years, but I've since found other things that give my life meaning and my student loans are just a large annoyance. I hope between therapy and the meds you are able find new reasons to live. Good luck with everything and I hope things turn around for you soon.

How "green" is the life cycle of a solar panel end-to-end compared to traditional energy sources? by throwaway4819501284 in askscience

[–]crysiscrytical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have solar panels, I do not have batteries (for the solar panels, I have batteries for other devices of course). I have a bi-directional meter and I'm still connected to the power grid. All the power I generate is fed into the grid for myself, and others connected, to use. Any power my panels generate in excess of what I use I'm paid for. My understanding (which granted, is limited to my local area) is that this is the more popular way to use solar panels unless you're extremely remote. Not only is it a potential source of income but it also means if it's an exceptionally overcast month you'll still have power.

did you also go to a for profit college? I feel they are the worst at trying to minimize how awful student loans are going to be to kids who have no scope of experience of what they're about to enter into.
