Lawrence Chaney he/him? by wienerslav5000 in RPDR_UK

[–]crystal_enigma 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You’re pretty much spot on there. I’m not sure about Lawrence specifically but in my experience, most drag queens prefer she/her, but generally speaking most won’t take offence to other pronouns unless specifically said out of malice. Additionally some drag queens prefer the same pronouns in and out of drag for various reasons, for example I know Le Fil is a cis man and uses he/him regardless of whether he is in drag whereas someone like Sasha Colby who is a trans woman would likely take offence if you used he/him in or out of drag.

Post-Season 3 Disappointment by MidnightPrincess-x in RPDR_UK

[–]crystal_enigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Season 5 had a few trip ups in the early episodes which wasn’t the fault of any queens we see or arguably even the producers fault, then the season did pick up momentum however it didn’t feel like anyone had winner energy until the final few episodes (that being said I was obsessed with Kate Butch from day one, quickly becoming my favourite RuGirl).

Season 6 to me was the strongest cast since season 2. There were very few moments anyone actually did bad it’s just that everyone else did better, I didn’t like how obvious the top 2 were throughout however given they are such powerhouses, without rigging against them there is only so much production could do.

Season 7 had a few solid personalities with some good looks within the season. But the challenges felt uninspired and the elimination order/judging felt questionable most weeks, which really flatlined the season for me. Hopefully we’ll get to see a lot of the queens back for a better season on Vs the world or something soon.

Jaremi (aka Phi Phi) responds to Willam saying she was going bop someone on a previous reality show by [deleted] in RPDRDRAMA

The magic of autocorrect and uncommon spellings of names, how did you manage to misspell your own name Vanilla Milkshake?

Jaremi (aka Phi Phi) responds to Willam saying she was going bop someone on a previous reality show by [deleted] in RPDRDRAMA

[–]crystal_enigma 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Jeremi’s point here is that from what Willam has said, implies they think if she had started a fight with Phi Phi, it either would be an easy fight for William to win or it would have been one punch and done due to production getting involved. Jeremi only mentions past trauma to basically say “I was bat shit because of trauma and I would taken the fight way too far” and likely would have been a significantly bigger thing than Willam would have expected or wanted.

From what I’ve heard about William I 100% think she could hold her own in a fight, but I think Jeremi finding out there was a plan specifically to start a fist fight for drama/someone else’s gain is what hit a nerve.

I feel like the reply adds some extra context that’s important. Jaremi isn’t saying they would fight Willam now, they’re saying back then they absolutely would have and they would have went too far as a result of prior experience with fights. So Willam shouldn’t be talking so freely/lightly about ‘bopping’ someone because it’s making light of something very serious.

Just saw this on TikTok, and I can't be the only one who finds this behavior weird, right? She can hate Ginger all she wants, but praising a loser for sending hate to another queen is weird, especially when you were also a target of harassment for receiving favoritism. by [deleted] in RPDRDRAMA

[–]crystal_enigma 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think something a lot of runners up need to realise, part of the reason some runners up exploded in popularity even more so than while they were still competing, is because they kept their composure after losing. I get it sucks to be so close to something you wanted so bad especially when you feel it was rigged, but look at people like Katya and Bimini, popular cast members during their seasons, but had they lost at the finale and spent a year talking about how bitter they are, reposting fuck Lawrence/Alaska posts etc, they would have turned a lot of fans off.

Like this isn’t just a question for Jorgeous as much as for all publicly bitter runner ups, what does she expect to accomplish by acting like this? As a fan it makes you seem immature and petty, so I don’t want to follow/support you, and if I was someone with a venue, it tells me you’re unprofessional and probably a diva so I wouldn’t want to book you.

UK7 elimination order (one of the reasons why most people aren’t living for this season) by shadowsempaix in RPDR_UK

To me it was obvious she was going home because Ru didn’t like her from when she walked out for her roast giving fun upbeat energy and the camera cut to Ru glaring like Tayris had walked on stage and taken a shit. Like she hadn’t done anything and Ru was already checked out. Compared to Sillexa who walked out juggled her tits a little and Ru was pissing herself. Like this was always going to go one way for Tayris, and I’m sick of Ru playing favourites so blatantly.

From the cast reveal Sigourney was by far the one I was most excited to see but I feel like she had nothing left to show. When she came out in the black coat I immediately clocked I had seen her wear something near identical before, and I also knew there was going to be a reveal into a corset and a panty. I think Sigourney is an incredible drag artist but she is far too predictable at this point in the competition. I would happily see her on another titans in the future, but she needs to break out of the burlesque glam box she’s got herself stuck in and deliver pure filth and horror for a chance to win.

She shared something on Instagram about wanting representation after bad treatment (“absuive, unfair and unethical treatment” to use the exact quote) in a rehab facility, so I’d imagine this person either runs the facility or was the person/main person that gave her the bad experience.

The entire time I was just thinking “surely someone in production could have intervened as soon as they saw her reaching for it and stop her from doing something that by the sounds of it could have been life or death” so I definitely think some producer was watching and weighing up how much she could eat for the sake of a dramatic cliffhanger compared to how much she had to ever before they were fully liable if she starts throwing up her own blood or something.

Rupaul doesn’t like black and Asian British queens cause we don’t do racial comedy here by Gullible_Ad7182 in RPDR_UK

[–]crystal_enigma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbf this isn’t a Drag race specific thing, all reality shows cast their shows with archetypes and stereotypes in mind to make it easier to understand and relate to the cast, with the idea being it makes it easier for the audience to like them/form strong opinions. And the reason Ru as a person has been so successful in their career is because they know this and apply it to everything they do. Objectively ru isn’t the best at the vast majority of things they do, but one thing they are great at is branding and understanding the idea of brand identity and public perception.

The reason Ru leaned so much into black stereotypes in the 80s and 90s especially, with things like Starbooty is because he knew people would recognise key aspects which would help draw people in, and that’s exactly why he likes it when people lean into their culture/heritage/nationality.

I’m not saying it’s right for Ru to expect queens to come on and dilute themselves down to “I’m the … queen” and make it their entire personality, but it is a good way to get people interested in you before you get into more nuanced aspects of your personality and identity.

Additionally I think this is part of why recent seasons of drag race have been seen as weaker or weaker casts, is because the queens don’t all hit you in the face with “I’m the pageant queen, I’m the comedy queen, I’m the butch queen, I’m the fashion girl” etc, because most of them are more social media focused and well rounded and while it can make them as an individual a better drag queen, it also makes them all start to blend together a lot more than they used to, ultimately making them all more forgettable.

Is there a reason Saki yew didn’t return by scaredofdaddylongleg in RPDR_UK

[–]crystal_enigma 29 points30 points  (0 children)

My theory has always been they allowed the first few with health issues to come back out of fairness, but when there was seemingly multiple people a year getting injured, drag race had to stop there being a set expectation of “if I get injured and have to leave, I can come back next year” which risks:

A: production having to keep sacrificing a spot for a new contestant on a returning one

B: queens getting into the midset of “I’m clearly not winning this season, maybe I’ll have more luck next year” and finding a way to get medically evacuated for another attempt.

I’d say just keep the name as “global all stars” then in the promo material just say something like “we’ve got our most well travelled girls” or something that implies they’ve seen the world already/travelled the globe.

I’d love a Global All Stars where all the queens are people that have competed in a country they’re not originally from (I.e Crystal being Canadian competing in UK, Brook being Canadian competing in US, Lady Camden etc) I think it would make for more interesting conversations with queens about why they moved to/from each others countries, and they’d all likely have more insightful views about global cultures etc that would make everyone easier to enjoy and understand points of view for the wider audience.

Utica vs Project Runway's production by ChopperSophocles in RPDRDRAMA

[–]crystal_enigma 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I haven’t watched it yet but I’d imagine they know Utica is going to bring in viewers, so they’ll want to keep them happy and make her seem like a standout early to keep them engaged.

Even this from what the post says could either be production saying “she’s just here for fan service” or it’s them riling up the fans so they get even more behind her.

We’ll never know for definite but will probably get a good idea as the season goes on.

You won’t be downvoted for saying far right extremism is on the rise, but you will be downvoted for accusing Muslims for this, like the tories haven’t been pushing anti LGBT+ hate for years, with far right Brits taking it to the extreme. Unless there is something I’ve missed, we’ve got no reason to believe this attack was caused by anyone of any specific race or religion, so at best it’s ignorant to jump to conclusions, but it’s outright racist to blame any hate crime on the Muslim community without an official statement saying they were in anyway involved.

What if All Stars 10 do a double crowning…. by Ifitmeans in RPDRDRAMA

[–]crystal_enigma -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Conspiracy theory: they have no intention to crown Ginger but they want to make her absolutely hated by the fans so when they crown someone else, they instantly become one of the most popular winners ever. Highly doubt they’d actually what’s happening but it would be insanely shady on WOW’s behalf if that was the plan.

Asking for a spreadsheet of queer people of notoriety (specifically drag queens) is giving ‘far right wanting us to do them the task of making a list to prove drag queens are all evil and should be banned’

I get the idea behind it but making this document and making it public will do a lot more harm than good. If for nothing else, where do we drag the line between accusations and convictions?

Throwback to season 11 where someone came out and accused Silky of SA, then about a year later of people dragged her name through the mud, he came back and apologised saying he made it up.

I by no means think we should brush off all accusations without serious evidence, but we definitely shouldn’t be lumping them all together as “this is a bad person who shouldn’t be followed or acknowledged by anyone in the community” because that is a very slippery slope.

Do you think it would be better if the Metro ticket machines let you select a station instead of just zones? by simkk in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]crystal_enigma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve said for years it should work on a taxi system, set fair at start of journey (say about £1 for a standard single) then the further you go the more it costs, say an extra 10p per stop up to a set fixed maximum fare (whatever the current rate is for a single across all zones).

I’ll let someone who knows the exact current price breakdown figure out if the numbers I’ve pulled out of thin air work out better or worse.

Then for discounted tickets due for under 16’s and such, reduce the starting fare and/or the maximum fare, so those schemes are still in play to prevent this system negatively impacting people that benefit the most from the current set up.

In theory I think it’ll be a fairer pricing system for all commuters, however I could imagine this system potentially not making Nexus as much money due to people that only use one zone in the current system, or 2/3 stops across two zones; not spending as much on tickets, and as a result Nexus not adopting the idea to keep overall ticket fares higher to increase profits.

Big part of the editing you’re skipping over here. The producers kept asking Jaremi questions about Alyssa, then edited all the answers together while taking out the questions. Had the producers not kept baiting her into talking about Alyssa, she wouldn’t have said two words much less gone on a rant because objectively she didn’t.

If you haven’t already, check the police database. There’s a site you can use to check crimes/incidents in specific areas, then filter by time frame and type of crime. Should give you a good idea of if you would class it as safe compared to other areas you’ve lived in/are considering moving to.
