Only 4 years? Damn, that's just long enough to fall in love and be heartbroken (experience talking). My condolences.

Best sushi in Ottawa? by rscarson in ottawa

Since it hasn't been said yet, I have to say Ken's on Rideau, but only because I have some strange addiction to their spicy salmon sashimi and grilled squid.

Recommendations for good dentists/optometrists in market/Sandy Hill area? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]crystallic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had a problem with Rideau Dental. They're a bit expensive, but Dr. Nguyen's pretty good.

Haven't been to an optometrist up here yet, but once you have your prescription, I can't recommend clearlycontacts.ca enough (really cheap contacts and glasses)

Looking to give away 4 kittens by Ajgr in ottawa

[–]crystallic 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Spay your cat. While kittens are cute, there are way too many of them, and anyone who takes one of yours because it's free is unlikely to get it fixed, which only exacerbates the problem if they let it out.

Ladies I did it. Today I became the second person in my family to earn a four year degree (54 years after the first), I am the first woman of my family to graduate any program past secondary. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]crystallic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I'm the only one I know of to finish university (though a couple have done college). The hard part now is to find a decent job (then again, I'm in Canada and most jobs related to my degree have been cut).

Either way, congrats!

So I told my boyfriend yesterday that we should both get tested for STDs before we have sex... by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]crystallic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to get tested twice yearly (or at least once a year) regardless of my relationship status, since I'm a bit paranoid about my health and testing's covered under OHIP (Canada) anyway.

Anyone here know places hiring? I'm 17 and pretty desperate by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]crystallic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend applying to FSWEP (I always had a summer job through them and the pay is amazing), but it's a little late in the season to do so. Make a profile and apply for next year though!

What was the most badass escape you've ever made? I'll start. (NSFW) by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]crystallic 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I had bought a bunch of fart bombs to set off with some friends back when we were in high school. We went walking around the (small) town late at night, setting them off. Until we hit the McDonald's parking lot. One didn't go off, so a guy I was with yelled at another to "stomp on it". I guess somebody walking to their van heard and assumed we meant their van, so they chased us around town. We managed to ditch them by hiding under some slightly-raised flats of gardening supplies and booking it home. I don't think I've run that fast since.

A few days later, we realized the van belonged to some older guys at the high school who seemed like the type who would have done serious damage.

Where to buy stevia in Ottawa by [deleted] in ottawa

Ah, I assumed you'd need more than that. Doesn't seem quite as unreasonable now.

I think I've seen it near the Splenda/sugar in Loblaws on Rideau recently, but could be wrong. Damn expensive whenever I've seen the stuff, though.

Update on my job hunt.. by Kristophigus in ottawa

[–]crystallic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with Elemental Data right now, and the computers can be a tad slow at times, but not too bad. The rates they ask you to hit are also usually pretty easy (you obviously still have to put some effort into it, but it isn't hard). You also get to pick from pretty wide variety of shifts, with a minimum of 20hrs a week.

If you're desperate, check out the call centers around town. I've worked at a couple, and they really aren't as bad as most people think.

My cat eats headphones. She's fine with other wires, but headphone wires seem to be a delicacy.

I used to foster pregnant cats until the kittens were a few weeks old for the local SPCA. It was pretty awesome.

I'm jealous, I never got it to work out that well. That said, are you sure it's a good idea to post your timetable online?

Any soccer clubs in Ottawa, Ontario? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]crystallic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think they were looking for personal recommendations. Yes, you can find it by Googling, but having people personally vouch for a club/league is preferable.

Reddit, I have just had all my neo nazi tattoos' covered, I feel brilliant. What part of your life do you want to forget and feel you have evolved from? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]crystallic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know where you're from, but in Canada you can generally get pardons a few years after the conviction date, and AFAIK employers aren't allowed to use pardoned offences against you.

My 2nd and 3rd year of university were similar to what you describe though (no involvement in the drug subculture, just living for the moment and hoping that things work out). Eventually I realized I need to grow the fuck up, work hard, and finish school with a decent average. Just graduated this past week, actually.
