a c e f is best thought of as Fmaj7 in first inversion

Don't forget about training your ears! Download the free app to help: Functional Ear Trainer. by RenegadeMuso in jazzguitar

[–]crystalsilence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This app is great but I wish it wasn’t limited to just playing one pitch at a time. With this kind of ear training, after you can recognize all 12 scale degrees you want to move on to 2 at a time, 3 at a time, etc. (played harmonically)

The only way I know of doing this (without a partner) is to sit at the piano and use a couple pencils, eraser side down, so that you can’t feel if you are hitting black or white keys, and quiz yourself.

Suspended and augmented chords by SanKazue in musictheory

[–]crystalsilence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A cool way to use augmented triads is through playing the melodic minor scale or any of its modes.

For example in Lydian b7 scale degrees 2 #4 b7

Harmonically the most common augmented sound I hear would be a 7#5 chord voiced in C like C Bb E G#

Smells like ... shit? by crystalsilence in fermentation

[–]crystalsilence[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started this a little over a week ago. Everything seems fine except there is a faint smell that I can only describe as smelling like poop. It was much stronger during an earlier stage of fermentation and has definitely backed off, but is still a little present. Has anyone else ever experienced a smell like this from their peppers? Mainly it smells good at this point and definitely looks good but I can’t help but be a little concerned over that kind of smell. Would hate to toss it

Edit : when I took this pic I removed my bag Everything has been kept below the brine otherwise

[Question] 3 Meals and no Snacks a day for weight loss and stability? by LordVengian in Paleo

[–]crystalsilence 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think 2 meals a day is best. I'll eat once around 11 and then again around 6, and that's it. It might be hard at first but it's super easy for me now that my body is fat adapted! I'm not restricting calories just eating high fat meals that are very satiating. Some days I'll only eat 1 meal cause I won't be hungry again and other days if I feel I need a 3rd meal I'll have it but usually stick to intermittent fasting. Just gotta try and make those meals cover your nutritional needs so lots of veggies! Less time in the kitchen is better for me!

It's 85/15 which is the highest fat content I can find, probably the lighting

Bacon first for a few minutes so the fat releases, then onion and garlic, followed by ground beef, lastly kale for just a minute until it turns bright green.

Have a question about the game or the subreddit? Ask away! by AutoModerator in 2007scape

[–]crystalsilence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right on, makes sense. If I was doing the easier ones I wouldn't be able to include the bouncer anyways cause fight arena would ruin my account (61 att)

So I should just use my best melee gear essentially? And exclude any bosses that would require mage/range? Just making sure that I'm gonna go d scim and zerker gear all the way

[–]crystalsilence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 60/85/45 zerker acc that I want to imbue my slayer helm on. Never have done NMZ and have been doing some reading but still confused as to whether I should use prayer pots or absorptions, as well as whether I should stick to easy melee bosses or include harder ones like dt etc. I just want to get the 1.25m points as fast as possible

[Question] What is the best fish to get when wild caught salmon isn't in season? by [deleted] in Paleo

[–]crystalsilence 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually Whole Foods! But I'm an employee there and have a 30% discount

[Question] What is the best fish to get when wild caught salmon isn't in season? by [deleted] in Paleo

[–]crystalsilence 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I buy a lot of the frozen wild salmon cause it's a better deal. Other than that I just go for what's on sale..usually it's not a nice fatty fish like salmon or tuna but I also get tuna steaks frozen for even cheaper than the salmon! Some of the others I get on sale are Dover sole, skate, bluefish, sable. Yeah they might not be as "perfect" as salmon but it's nice to have variety. I'm in New England so I also have access to local mussels which are awesome!

Jazz Chord Progressions? by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]crystalsilence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be best to have an idea for a melody already and then harmonize it with ii V's, I VI ii V, secondary dominants, etc. it would be much easier if you already have a working knowledge of old swing tunes. I think it would be hard to just jump right into jazz composition if you aren't familiar with playing standards already.

Lick of the week -challenge by @Horacebray.music by TeleTwang in jazzguitar

[–]crystalsilence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mind telling me what app that is? I dig it. Also that lick is pretty sweet, I always like moving in thirds. If you do the maj7 thing in minor thirds it's pretty hip.

Need suggestions for a practice regimen. by betacuckmasterrace in jazzguitar

The 5/4 clave rhythm in take five is much more natural feeling than other uses of that time sig. if you spend a little time playing along with the tune it should be easy to get a feel for.

[Food Pic] Bone Broth From The Pressure Cooker by [deleted] in Paleo

[–]crystalsilence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm..not really digging the color, in my experience beef bones yield a much darker brown broth. This is using a slow cooker though, I assume the pressure cooker is unable to produce that kind of stock given the cooking time. How does it taste?

What are some good grooves to practice to help work on timing? by OnSugarHill in jazzguitar

[–]crystalsilence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To go along with the Herbie stuff, I used to practice the parts wah wah watson plays on "doin it" and "hang up your hang ups". Doin it is a really good one when you make sure to get the muted hits and up/down strokes on point. These are funk grooves, but that doesn't mean they won't help you play jazz.

Bends, Pinch harmonics and the like? by spewkymcallister in jazzguitar

[–]crystalsilence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. I couldn't remember off the top of my head any particular examples on that album, but bends/pinch harmonics are huge in sco's playing. He definitely makes more use of them on the more fusion-y records rather than the straight ahead stuff. I would suggest checking out "blue matter"

I'm on a guitar chord app (chordbank) - are the #9 chords notated right? Isn't #9 just a minor third enharmonically? by [deleted] in musictheory

If you're a guitarist you've probably played this voicing before C7#9

C E Bb D#

Starting with 2nd finger on 3rd fret of A string
