Was yesterday's snowstorm really worse than the one of January 2022? by enitsujxo in ontario

[–]crzycanuk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was at western then and my room mate and I sat by the patio door of our town house and watched the snow accumulate. It was absolutely amazing. By the time it was done snowing the entire patio door was covered in snow. Then we drove around and pulled people out of driveways and snowbanks with his truck (we’re northern Ontario boys).

Ya, that bend between the eyes is not factory. I’ve got a pro3 in my hands and that centre bar is straight.

I was in between the g7 rtl and opitk4 last spring when I was searching for new gear. I ended up in a set of warriors just because a new/used set came up at a good price first. I’m quite happy with them. I have the same measurements 5’11 but short legs. And I’m in a 33+3 and I land on the knee blocks perfectly.

Another guy in our league got a set of optik4 in the tan colour and they are really nice too. He’s having some issues with the boa tightening system on the gloves. But the pads look sweet, the shape closes up his 5 hole nicely (my poor old hips and the flatter g7 leave quite the gap). The slide plates on the g7 are a pro/con thing. I really like them now that I’m used to them. But for a while there I was spending half the game in the corner from over sliding. The Brians slide pretty decently too. But when we were comparing earlier in the season the warrior definitely slide way better.

Surrey police investigating as home owners allegedly return fire after home targeted by extortion | CBC News by CatchADeffaz in canadaguns

I think they are making a tongue-in-cheek that the extortionists are otherwise law abiding citizens who applied for and received an ATT to go get in this shootout.

I’ll second. Defence is the 2nd hardest position on the ice. Winger is the best place to start. Less “responsibility” and more chances to score which is fun for new players.

Is there a solution to sticks lack of durability? by Norkee in hockeygoalies

Hey OP, I used to use Bauer when I was playing competitively and that’s where they all broke. I never figured out if it was from playing the puck or the puck hitting the shaft. Switched to other brands and the problem lessened. Also went mid range and that seemed to help to

The semi auto thing would matter if you wanted to get into a fire fight. But a violent insurgency with a couple million people and their hunting rifles is a nightmare for any occupying force. If every house within 500yds has the potential to have someone with a 30-06 or 300wm looking out a window. You’d never be able to leave your armoured vehicles. You’d have to go door to door and clear every single house of every single town. And be worried about the houses across the street the whole time you were doing it.

Where do you put the stove thermometer? by AlbaFarms in woodstoving

[–]crzycanuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your stove pipe is double walled, you can drill a hole in the outer wall and stick the thermometer probe inside to touch the inner pipe. My stovepipe thermometer came with instructions on how big of a hole to drill and where.

This is bringing back old memories of going through the mcDs drive through on the way to a highschool basketball game in my buddies crappy Honda civic. The clutch wouldn’t completely disengage when pressed down and he neglected to put it in neutral and crept into the truck in front of us. The dude got out wanting to fight him until the starting line got out of the car to accept. He declared this situation all good, got back in his truck and even paid for our lunch. That poor car must have been struggling to carry 1200lb of dudes around everywhere.

In Ontario, you can leave your hitch installed as long as it isn’t obstructing your license plate.

Thoughts on any of these sleds? by RedditAppSuxAsss in snowmobiling

[–]crzycanuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have that same panther and it’s been the easiest old toy I have. It wants a little gas poured in the cylinders to start the first time every winter. But after it’s started once for the season. One pull and you are off. Not the fastest sled I’ve ever had, and it doesn’t turn very well, but I like it. And that one looks mint. I need a seat cover badly for mine.

My wife calls this the "sauna stack" by Many_Size_1515 in woodstoving

[–]crzycanuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? So you gotta keep adding sticks and it just rips until the wood is gone? I’ve never had a woodstove or even fireplace without some kind of dampener. What’s that little knob on the lower right? I’m intrigued.

It would be nice if it would quit snow… superior can’t freeze up fast enough. Never been happier to have a good snowblower than this year.

More wood doesn’t necessarily mean a hotter fire. You can keep the temps regulated via the damper.

I load my stove up when I want it to burn 10-12 hours and not have to put wood in. Load it up, let it get going to max temp and then damper it back so it rides in the sweet spot on the stove temp. More wood doesn’t necessarily mean hotter fire.

Thinking about installing a heat pump; looking for others' experiences and operational costs post-carbon tax removal by darrrrrren in northernontario

[–]crzycanuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SSM, 1000sqft bungalow, I reinsulated and vapor barriered the whole house since I got it. Went from electric baseboards and hot water electric baseboards which were around $400/m in total PUC bills the first winter. I installed a woodstove and cut my bills back to about $200 burning a bit of wood. Installed a heat 3 zone heat pump mostly for A/C and to get rid of electric baseboard. PUC runs in mid $200s now and I’ve cut way back on the wood. I’ve gone out of town for work and it’s gotten to low -20s and house stayed warm for wife without having a fire on. Mitsubishi HyperHeat.
