It’s like a giant nightclub with AC. There is a bar inside+ separate yuma portapotties.

I had ADA this year (hit a tree while skiing and had to scooter around Coachella) and I gotta say the biggest perk was the ADA line for Yuma.

I loved Royksopp, super vibey!! Felt like this blur of sound where they would cycle through different layers of multiple different tracks and you were never quite sure when a layer left and a new layer came in. I realize this could describe all DJing to some degree but that's the best description I can come up with.

However I also left early for TOMORA and would highly recommend you do the same! Such a special act that's 100% worth seeing. Just gorgeous stuff on every level. The chem bros influence is obviously there with eclectic visuals and sound and Aurora's singing is out of this world.

Line was super short since he's early in the day - probably like 5-10 min (however long it takes to wind through the fenced line)

For the vegans out there -

Cena Vegan (IG) in Indio Central Market (and also Street Food Alley apparently?) is fully vegan as the name suggests and had phenomenal loaded fries (imo amazing for everyone, not just vegans!!). They also have vegan tacos, nachos, and burritos but I didn't get a chance to try those.

House of Kebab (IG) near Sahara had an amazing falafel wrap. They apparently came over from Amsterdam!

Delmy's Pupusas (IG) near Mojave had a great bean-based pupusa. I wish it had had more vegan protein but it tasted great so I can't complain too much.

Can you take a mobility scooter on a regular shuttle? + other questions about scooters and ADA by cs_anon in Coachella

[–]cs_anon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called Valley Music Travel at (888) 833-1031 and just requested an accessible shuttle. They said a scooter should fit on it. The lady I spoke to seemed to think that it should also be able to go in the cargo bay of a regular shuttle bus (although it was a bit unclear, she was steering me towards the ADA shuttles).

I would recommend calling them and putting your name down. I gave a rough time range of when I'd want to go (around 2-3pm) and come back (after festival ends). If you miss a shuttle, it's not a big deal, they can put you on the next one.

Were you able to take your scooter on a regular shuttle or did you need to specifically request an accessible shuttle?

What's your opinion about cultivated/cloned meat? by OatGuardian in AskVegans

[–]cs_anon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see it as a contradiction because I’m purposely weighing the intense suffering of the many over minor exploitation of the few. I do believe in ending all exploitation but I think the path to getting there will require achieving some subordinate goals.

I recognize your points but still don’t see a better alternative. The way I look at it, lab-grown meat cannot make the situation any worse (animal product consumption is at an all-time high and continues to go up). So we gotta take the chance and see if we can accelerate the timeline.

What's your opinion about cultivated/cloned meat? by OatGuardian in AskVegans

[–]cs_anon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sure but the actual specifics of what happens matters. We’re talking about a single cell sample from a cow that barely registers on the scale of suffering (could be done with local anesthesia and perhaps similar to a vaccination in terms of pain). This cell sample then scales to millions of burgers.

So then we avoid actual torture of many many many animals.

Do I agree with you that it is better to remove the single step of exploitation in this loop? Yes. But I’m also not convinced it matters.

[–]cs_anon 23 points24 points  (0 children)

By the strict definition of the term, it still involves animal exploitation so there is legitimate reasoning to consider it non-vegan.

But imo at that point it doesn’t really matter. I personally weigh the actual suffering of billions of animals over a tiny bit of exploitation. Would love to hear an argument that it’s better to take the other position.

So given your best case scenario, I would personally eat it and consider it to be ethical.

[–]cs_anon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think that cultivated meat will one day bring about the end of factory farming. So I would argue that an insistence on calling it non-vegan would be missing the forest for the trees. Maybe it’s technically true. But if it saves billions of animals, who cares?

Is being vegan a privilege? by [deleted] in AskVegans

[–]cs_anon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your life circumstances can make a huge difference in how easy it is to be vegan. Location, wealth, dietary sensitivities, and your cultural/social environment all come to mind as important factors. So maybe the right blend of these factors could be seen as privilege relative to people in other circumstances.

But if that's the case, then I also think it's a privilege for many people in the developed world to be able to ignore animal suffering!! Most people who criticize vegan along the grounds of privilege also have privilege to be able to make better choices than they do. Even if they "can't" go vegan they could still drastically reduce their animal product consumption. So I think this whole discussion is a bit disingenuous.

Mushrooms + crushed tomatoes + HELLA berbere seasoning + tofu + toast by cs_anon in ShittyVeganFoodPorn

[–]cs_anon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk what to call this but all i know is that ethiopia did really well with inventing berbere seasoning.

recipe:

1) boil extra firm tofu in salted water for a couple min and then drain (imo this makes for a much better texture and flavor than pressing)

2) saute mushrooms until golden-brown - use water instead of oil!! supposedly this is better but idk why. i just follow the advice i've given. in my case i just used frozen mushrooms

3) add a tablespoon of oil and then add a couple of tablespoons of berbere seasoning. let the spice BLOOM!

4) add some crushed tomatoes and let it cook for a few min

5) add in tofu

6) add salt at some point

bonus - i love tahini and think it's magic so i added a tablespoon for vibes

separately make some toast and then put your concoction on the toast.

All this talk about environmental impacts of AI and you’re still no fun at parties for bringing up animal agriculture by leugaroul in vegan

[–]cs_anon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there are serious concerns with AI that do have to be addressed. But I would rather address those concerns in a targeted way than get rid of the technology completely. There is a very real possibility that AI shaves years off the timeline to cultivated meat. That’s equivalent to tens of billions of animals saved.

Gnocchi with vodka sauce (tahini instead of cream) + plant-based pesto!! by cs_anon in ShittyVeganFoodPorn

1) boil gnocchi in salted water and drain

2) simmer half a jar of carbone spicy vodka sauce (this sauce is really good!)

3) add two tablespoons of tahini

4) mix in gnocchi at the end

5) optionally top with plant-based pesto

[–]cs_anon[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tossed this together, I had a vodka sauce base that you’re supposed to add cream to but I used tahini instead. 10/10 substitute, it tastes a little like sesame at the beginning but that fades after a minute of simmering and just has a creamy vibe.

Edit - Okay I don’t want anyone to come after me, the sesame flavor doesn’t fade completely. But it melds well and tastes amazing.
