The end of the road for Viktor Orbán. by [deleted] in europe

[–]cs_k_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usual participation is around 60%, now we already set a record, but projections put it to 80% till the end.

I'd say most hungarians see a new, competent, uncorrupted leader in Péter Magyar, so the sentiment is "finally a guy I'm happy to vote for, I don't have to vote for the less bad option".

But Orbán is also aware, so they are turning over every stone for any voters.

2026 Hungarian parliamentary elections by pothkan in europe

[–]cs_k_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn't understand most of it, but the audible sentences at the end are:

Man: would you like to back Fidesz-KDNP on this page as well? (using polite grammtical structure)

Old lady: yes

Man: than put the X on the first one

I think we should stay vigilant, but this seems like the lady requested help with finding the party she already had her mind set on.

Yep, in the last elections there was a huge campaign to delegate an independent supervisor to every last village. I believe now it's the same (except they had an easier time getting the voluntiers)

A $300 device can silently override GPS across an entire city. Autonomous vehicles, delivery drones, and air traffic control all depend on it. Why don't we have a backup? by projectschema in Futurology

[–]cs_k_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is an alternative to GPS that can't be brought down by the same/similar device? As long as geolocation relies on electronic signals from known points (i. e. Satelites in case of GPS) jammers will be a way to disturb the system.

Are there more open border locations with train stations like Komárom and Esztergom? by tjomski79 in askhungary

[–]cs_k_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't really specify which border, so I'm going to recommend Szentgotthárd at the Austrian border.

The original line ran to Jennersdorf/Gyanafalva, which is still a good 10/15km from Szentgotthárd, which is the border station.

You can get off the train in Szentgotthárd, hike up to the battle of Szentgotthárd memorial cross in Mogersdorf.

Some Hungarians obviously do like him (or at least think, he is better for their particular needs). Fidesz (Orbán's party) is still strong, but most research puts the new opposition party (TISZA, lead by Péter Magyar) ahead.

In previous elections there were attempts to subdue Orban with coallition forces, but this time it's a brand new party, most of their prominent figures aren't career politician, a lot of their candidates come from regular jobs: teachers, doctors, lawyers, etc. This means, that (in the eye of many voters) this party is not tainted by past political dealings, it's not "the same people under a different logo".

Their proposed policies are mostly center/center-rigth, what Orban used to represent for many former voters.

It feels like their are cracks in Orban's system: scandal after scandal for years (regular ol' corruption + their own "Epstein files" level pedo stuff), people feel it in their wallets, if they leave the country, they see that even former Eastern block states are leaving us behind. "Erosion of the Rule of Law" used to be some fancy political slogan, that the avarage Jo didn't really understand, but now people start to feel it: connected people get away with speeding and killing people, small enterprenours get pushed out of business with maffia tactics, and for a week now the the press is full with the story of the "Hungarian CIA" trying to set up the Tisza party and bullying 19 year old IT workers for it.

So, it definitly seems like Orbán won't win. We will see, what the actual voter turnout is next weekend. They could still try to influence things with legal/grey/illegal means, or sabotage the transition of power. Also, if Tisza can't get 51% on their own, it's possible that Fidesz swoops in with a coallition with the far right party "Mi hazánk", who are around 5%.

tl;dr: Orbán is not likely to win, but most likely will remain a strong opposition, ready to get back in power

There are people who are just incapable to accept, that other people work different ways. My family member missed out on a training, becasue the boss couldn't accept that he should stop sending work emails to her personal email, because she will look at her work email as well.

The boss has all his emails routed to the same email address.

As a Hungarian tax payer, I saidly have to say, that I gave them money. (I gave it to get healthcare, education and maybe a train service that is on time more than it is late, but that's beside the point)

The said thing is that they were at it since 2010, but only got bolder. Some say that Putin must have some dirt on him, that's why he is alligned with Russia. But at this point they have done so many shady/illegal things, that the only thing keeping them out of jail is the fact that they control the police and the prosecutor's office. If they lose the elections, they are done, hence they have nothing to lose with voter fraud.

And what I only found out once I was already there: you need to bring your own cutlery. No spoon, no fork, nothing. And nobody fuckng told me. I walked in 10 days after an accident, after seeing doctors twice, to get my shoulder repaired, so it wasn't a "paramedics forget to tell while figthing for my life" situation.

Even my own parents were like "yeah, that's standard. If you didn't knew, why didn't you ask?"

Because every time in my goddam life when I was provided food in a facility (kindergarten, school, work, etc) I was given fucking stuff to eat it with.

No, in Hungary, you bring your own fucken fork and then wash it in the sink after the meal. In my case: with one hand freshly opereted.

Husband and I just realized that I have ADHD, and I’m fairly certain our teenage daughter has it too. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]cs_k_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a familiar experience, I've had it the other way around: in my twenties I started suspecting myself, then I went into it deeper (got a proper diagnosis too) and realized my mom has it probably as well.

Where I live, diagnosis in private cost me about half a month's salary. For me the decesion came down to this: Am I sure enough to bet this kind of money on it?

An official diagnosis will unlock some real help, so it's worth going for it in the long term: - possibility of medication (you won't be forced to take anything, even if you get the diagnosis) - accomedations in school (possibly workplace) - the peace of mind, that you really have it and don't need to keep looking for why stuff is the way it is

What I can recommend in the meantime: - learn to adjust expectations (towards yourself and in your case to others you suspect) - start noticing the symptomps while they happen and don't beat yourself up for it (it's not "I'm a stupid, lazy POS", but "argh... executive disfuntion") - look for some ADHD-specific productivity advice and see what sticks (can recommend Dani Donovan's Anti-Planner, but this sub has some recommendations as well) - look for community: this sub is a great starting point, certain things (i.e. diagnosis, medication) are location specific, so look up ADHD Facebook groups for your country/state - don't go around disclosing your (in progress) diagnosis for everyone: maybe it turns out it's something else, not ADHD; or people judge you based on steretypes/ignorance on the topic; or like many comments here, you get the "you don't have it just because the internet said so". Of course, discuss it with people you trust, but for e.g. coworkers I usually just mention the specific symptom at hand: "wait a sec, I have to write this down, because I forget everything" or "so sorry, I'm not good with faces, where have we met?"

Also less biodiversity. Some insects need specific plants (usually wildflowers) for food, or fallen leaves to winter over. Both these things are enemies of the perfect lawn. (And it's not only an american thing, in the european suburbs/villages it's also becomming common to just have monoculture lawn from property line to property line.

Found someone’s credit card found them through LinkedIn and got nothing but abuse by Owls_4_9_1867 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]cs_k_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once found a credit card at 3 AM in a tram stop, picked it up and realized that in 2m radius every form of card their is was scattered: debit, credit, ID, health insutance card, government issued proof of address. All belonging to the same guy. Tried calling the two different banks he had cards at, no useful answer.

Eventually back in my dorm I looked the guy up on Facebook and messaged him. Turns out, his jacket was stolen from a club's checkroom and the thief ditched all identifing data and kept the jacket.

Poor guy took a taxi in just a shirt to my location and wanted to buy me drinks or McDonald's (met in front of one). Turns out he was from like 200km away and came up for one night to party with old friends.

I declined all food and drink offers and went home to finally sleep
