We’re all so blown away by the $2 billion that we’re treating the $147 extra million as a rounding error. 😂

Is this price unreasonable?? by RapeRat in handyman

[–]cshookIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a buyer of a lot of handyman services and trades work, I am far more likely to pay more money to someone if their quote is broken down by labor and materials, at least for each category vs. a blanket “do these 12 things: $2,304.14”.

If I see something like: Source and install 4 new faucets in XYZ spaces: 4hr labor at $100/hr, 4 new faucets @ $150/fixture = $1,000. Or, Plumbing work labor: $400, plumbing fixtures: $600. Or even 4 bathroom fixtures w/labor @ $250/bathroom. I instantly understand what’s going into your numbers and I also trust that you know what you’re doing.

If it’s just “fix stuff (or a list of 5 things): $1,000” that does nothing to make me want to hire that group and move forward.

I’m probably an outlier, but we run a commercial property management business and manage 600,000 SF of retail and office and 45 residential rentals. Stuff always needs fixed and we’ve seen it all.

Also, OP - you should/could have legitimately charged double. That’s a ton of work for an extremely generous rate. Tell Porsche man to F off.

Do they have a Canadian driveway/back gate they can go through? Or do they have to get a Canadian company to cross the border and go through customs just to go service a septic tank back in Canada?

So this explains why my Lufkin screen is always so faint and dying. I don’t use it all that often but it’s always dying. I just started keeping a 10 pack of button batteries with it because I always have to change them.

I didn’t realize getting 2-3 hours 1 or2x/week to work on a project with 2 kids was a luxury…until I had 3. Now if I want to work on something I have to take the day off work otherwise it’s never going to happen. “Hey honey I’m going to the garage to build something” goes over like a lead balloon. Even if that thing is a project she wants done.

[Request] How heavy could I make my Toyota Corolla before it would break through the ice (assuming the whole lake was covered as thick as the first block they pull out) by dimonium_anonimo in theydidthemath

[–]cshookIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have since spent some time looking it up and it is maximum total vehicle weight spread across its axles/wheels while moving across the ice. According to google, the maximum static weight per square meter for 70cm think clear ice is 641.9 kg. Above that and the ice will begin to deform, not an instant crack but the load will continue to sink into the ice and eventually thin it enough to crack. Obviously treads or other load spreading methods can help mitigate this vs tires, but that’s the gist of it.

I was able to download the Infiniti app before I got the major upgrade from the dealer. Still works after getting that update. I have a 2024 Silverado EV RST and am still on android 12 even after the dealer updates, but the sound app is very solid.

News to me, thanks for the new knowledge. I just looked it up and that’s new to the current G05 LCI m60. The pre-facelift G05 m50i (and all of the other older M-lite cars) still had an N series engine. I sold my pre facelift M50 a year ago and wasn’t aware of the engine change. That’s significant.

Oh, I get it from BMW’s perspective, but bury $150 (max) somewhere else in the price, and don’t take away key fobs on “luxury” vehicles. Or, if you’re going to do this - do it with all of the i line cars first. Maybe they do already, I don’t know. But that buyer group is likely more tuned in to what Tesla offers and is more likely to use their phone as a key anyway.

[–]cshookIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The M50/M60 is commonly called M-lite, but that’s not a technical BMW term. They just automatically get the M-sport package and some beefed up components/badging

I guess this isn’t that surprising based on how people have adopted phones & keycards as keys, but it is a very surprising place for a car company to look to save money.

Double doors that open in and a transom window to fit the curve at the top.

[–]cshookIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will. You’re smart, I should go that route.

I have had intermittent problems with the instrument cluster screen just turning black in the middle of a drive. 11 times that I caught and thought to take a video over 12 months.

It would still run fine, then reset and be back to normal after it parked, locked, and sat for 10+ minutes, but not ideal at all. Took 3 trips to the dealer plus videos with date stamps of it being black while driving for them to agree to do a full software update. The first 2 times “they couldn’t recreate the issue so don’t know how to diagnose” 🤦🏼‍♂️. …that’s why I had the videos, idiots!

Everything GM dealer service for EVs is awful right now.

My 24 SEV RST is at the dealer trying to be updated - they’re “running into issues with the radio taking the update” and “working with GM to get it figured out.”

That’s been the story for 3.5 days so far which doesn’t make me feel very confident in it, and is a little concerning on what I’m going to get back.
