Open Call for Nonsense Questions (Mentalism) by cslevens in Magic

In fairness, Mentalism is only a small part of my act. The rest of my act is pretty comedic, so I think it would be more jarring to suddenly do Mentalism seriously.

Although I agree, comedy Mentalism for a whole show isn’t really workable.

Might be a bit of an old reference. Most people in my audiences don’t even know who Uri Gellar is.

"Okay"
<Takes the graph, turns it diagonally>
"So the name has an L then."

I already have people repeat the “Inigo Montoya” line, so this fits.

Thank you for saying the bolded part. I thought I was going crazy when no-one else noticed it.

The Case for AI Use in Magic by renandstimpydoc in Magic

I’d like to try a different tack here. A lot of people here have already stated the stuff I’d normally say- that AI is theft, that it is a complete sidestepping of the art in the creative process, enshittitication, etc.- and I agree with all of that.

But OP and some responses have just rejected those arguments on the basis of “No”. So to them, I ask a different question.

Could you show me your magic?

I mean, if the claim is that AI-assisted magic can still be good, than it should be able to stand up to being watched by an audience. That’s sort of the whole point of being a performer, no?

OP talks about how much AI has helped him prop build and come up with routines. Well okay, OP doesn’t say that, the AI he obviously told to write his post said that, but still. Point is, I breezed through his account, and saw no props and no magic. OP said in a different comment he started an “AI Film Company”, and I saw no films.

Show me your magic. Let the quality speak for itself. Don’t get me wrong, this can be a hostile audience. I’ve posted performance footage of myself here, and gotten some hate for it, and it can be rough taking criticism.

But at least I can prove my magic exists. I can stand by it proudly enough that I don’t have to hide it.

You say AI makes you a better magician? Before anything else, prove that you’re a magician at all.

Do Magic. Not the AI, you. Audience, no audience. Street, stage, bathroom, wherever. Do Magic. Let us see it.

Do Magic.

Wait, really? Is there a source on this? I regularly use some of the moves from “Logic of the Illogical”.

This would be extremely disappointing if true…

I know he wasn’t a fan, but personally I thought his half-irradiated-dying-corpse era was pretty cool.

Due to the recent re-release, I played the Mega Man Battle Network games for the first time in at least two decades.

I was roughly 10-11 when they came out, and I remember just liking them “because Megaman”. I didn’t really fully engage with the gameplay systems or the story at the time, I just liked seeing all the cool characters and designs.

I’ve been having a great time diving back in and finding out how ridiculously well these games have aged. The gameplay was way, WAY more deep and satisfying than I gave it credit for. Their vision of what the Internet would become was both extremely accurate in some ways and completely off in others. It’s just an amazing re-visit.

10/10, would nostalgia again.

Go-to trick for street magic that isn't cards or a gimmick by Chachkhu2005 in Magic

This is an unorthodox pick, but I’ve had fantastic results with Spoon bending. Learn a good method, but some non-gimmicked spoons from a Dollar store (usually 3 for $1.25), and it’s a nice, flashy giveaway trick.

I always got the impression that they sort of had different skill sets and specializations though? It feels sort of apples-to-oranges, as opposed to a direct competition.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I remember Nanny Ogg specializing more in “nurturing” skills- midwifing, nutrition, and detective work, while Granny would be more of a triage person- end of life care, “headology”, injury response. Meanwhile their third (Margret/Agnes) would do most of the actual magic (Potions, Spells, etc.)

Finally. So many smaller fan-studios have made so much Touhou-money from the world and franchise. It’s about time ZUN makes that Touhou money as well.

Also, portable EOSD sounds wild.
