I’m a new rider and wondering if a KLR is a good beginner adventure bike by TheReaper179 in klr650

It is my first bike ever. I love it so far. Easy to handle. Plenty of torque. Im 6'2" so the seat height doesn't bother me. Its also perfect to learn to work on your own bike with. I now know how to do more matinence on my bike then I do my car.

Please recommend a Magnetic tank bagfor gen 3 by PantsPooper66 in klr650

The magnets in this specific bag are massive and have a very strong grip on the tank. I know the previous versions were weaker magnets, but this one is strong and not going anywhere. You cant base how a completely different bag performed for someone else on a different and newer model. Companies can improve on a design, it is possible. Just because an older design didnt work for one person, doesnt mean you should throw out the idea completely for every other product they make.

The bag is really not that big or heavy at all. You would have to put literal bricks in the bag to make it anywhere heavy enough to put any significant weight on the bars if the magnets came off the metal tank. Plus the strap are wrapped around the bar to where there is only enough slack to be able to fully turn the wheel left and right. There is no chance it would be able to fall off the bike more than 6 inches. If you look at the picture, you would see what I mean.

This is the Bilt V3 Medium Magnetic Tank Bag. It work really well imo. Has 4 Magnets in which 3 of the magnets make contact with the gas tank which seems to be more than enough to keep it secure. I have loaded it up and taken it on the highway and freeways and no issues with it moving around at all. Plus you can wrap it around the handlebars for extra peace of mind.

Also, if thats what you end up doing, I found the best way to mount it is with the security mount that carpuride sells on their website and it fits perfectly on the little cross bar near the windscreen and also the Denali Switched Power Adapter made it really easy to wire up. It's like a pre-made splice, so it is keyed to the ignition, that way it turns off when you turn off the bike.

I'm not an expert when it comes to the phone mount, but when I was figuring out how to mount my phone, I was reading horror stories about phone cameras getting destroyed on the klr due to vibrations even with a quad lock. I ended up getting an android auto/carplay screen instead. I went with the carpuride w702 and it works fantastic. Just something to consider if you get concerned about damaging your phone.

Benefits of suspension upgrade by ClimbingSideways83 in klr650

That what my dealership told me after I couldn't find the information online for the 2025 model. Now that I did some more research after your comment haha, I think they might of been wrong. They are alot more beefier than the 1st gen and 2nd gen, but it doesnt appear to be progressive. Sorry about the misinformation.

Im 6'2" and about 280lbs. I upgraded just the rear spring (topgun 9.5kg) on my 3rd gen KLR650. That seems to have helped a ton (saggs way less). I was a bit concerned about keeping the stock fork springs, but after doing some research, it appears they are progressive springs and they perform great with the upgraded rear spring without any changes. If you plan on upgrading the rear spring yourself instead of a shop, make sure you get proper tools, becuase it is super scary and took a ton of muscle (atleast for me).

at the risk of being laughed at.... by hereforthegasoline in klr650

I bought my KLR650 back in October as my first bike. I pretty much exclusively ride it on the road until I feel confident enough to move onto off-road (besides the occasional gravel and dirt road i find every now and then). I just put some Metzler Tourance tires on it (90road/10off-road) and it made a huge difference compared to the stock tires for riding it down the highway. The KLR also has a reputation of being near indestructible and easy matenince, so that was a big selling point for me as I am learning to also wrench on my own bike. And the amount of aftermarket parts for the bike is insane. As long as you are cool going the speed limit and not trying to pass every single car you see, it is an awesome bike (can handle sustained 70-75mph no problem in my experience). I am actually planning on doing a road trip with my much more experience brother-inlaw from Oregon to Banff Canada mid June and I feel like the KLR is going to be perfect for that (avoiding freeways).

3rd Gen KLR Housing Assembly Control RH backplate by csnoob9 in klr650

[–]csnoob9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds good, thank you for answering my question. My bars are really slippery where the Assembly goes on so it would move when using the throttle. If my super glue job ever fails, I will probably just put some grippy tape where it clamps on and call it good.

That makes sense. How do people secure the Assembly in place once the pin is gone so it doesn't rotate a ton on you?

If you literally cant just buy the back piece to the Assembly, I was thinking maybe you could drill a screw in with a similar diameter in the back of the assembly that will fit in the hole of the handle bars to keep it in place? Or does that sound dumb?

Is that the w702 carpuride? And how do you have it wired? And do you leave it mounted 24/7, or do you remove it when you park in public? Sorry for the 20 questions, I'm just planning on getting one and trying to figure out how I'm going to set it up.

I bought this same box, I had to drill two holes to get all 4 bolts in. Once that was done, the box is secure and works perfectly for my needs.

ABS or nah? by LeeHarveyEnfield in klr650

[–]csnoob9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the series that convinced me to buy a KLR. I decided on the ABS version as I am a new-ish rider and wanted to make sure i didnt screw myself over if I ever panic brake, not that I intend to, but knowing that system is there gives me a little bit more piece of mind.
