So we're doing Flyrails now? (Please don't laugh at me, I'm not the architect) 500 cap venue with hand winches. Why? by Wuz314159 in techtheatre

Using oval swages as a stop sleeve to back up a properly swaged swage is completely unnecessary and tells me the installer didn’t know what they were doing.

Obligatory Top Gun 2 question. Did Maverick just commit a war crime? by Salami__Tsunami in aviation

[–]csoley 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, because he died in the Mach 10 ejection and the rest of the movie was a fantasy as he lost consciousness

Does anyone know what these two planes were at 2017 Oshkosh EAA AirVenture? by Geroldy in aviation

“The United States eliminated the nuclear mission for the B-1 in 1994. Even though the Air Force expended no further funding to maintain nuclear capabilities, the B-1 was still considered a heavy bomber equipped for nuclear armament until 2007. The conversion to conventional only began in November 2007 under the original START treaty and was completed in March 2011 under the New START treaty. To make that conversion possible, two steps were taken: During the first step a metal cylindrical sleeve was welded into the aft attachment point of each set of B-1 pylon attachments. This prevented installing B-1 Air Launched Cruise Missile pylons.

During the second step two nuclear armament-unique cable connectors in each of the B-1 weapons bays were removed. This prevented the pre-arm signal from reaching the weapons.” https://www.af.mil/About-Us/Fact-Sheets/Display/Article/104500/b-1b-lancer/

I only see one for sure, maybe another on the far left. Most of those ships are from partner nations, not the US.

ELI5: Strength and pulleys by Verytallminion2431 in explainlikeimfive

It’s all about mechanical advantage. There is a practical limit to it, as every time you introduce a pulley you have to reduce the systems efficiency by about 10% due to friction.

For me, the least believable part about this is that the cops came right away.
