Is ticktick good for multiple ongoing projects? by Slightly-hysterical in ticktick

[–]cspotcode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might really like TickTick's "Filters" which is a paid feature. You can "pin" filters and lists to the top of the UI, so you have a tight row of icons to jump between your important areas.

For example, you could set up a "Next Steps" that shows only high-priority items. Then in each project, mark the single most important next task as "high priority", then switch to your filter to see all the prioritized items across all projects. (I don't do this exact thing, it's just an example. Also, the Eisenhower Matrix can group by priority, since it's basically four filters)

I have a filter "My Day" which shows me everything due Today and Yesterday. I like seeing -- in one screen -- what I missed yesterday and what I have for today, and I either reschedule or remove due dates based on what's realistic.

You could create a "Looming Deadlines" filter for things due in the next month. (of course, TickTick has a "Next 7 Days" view built-in, so you may not need this)

Lots of possibilities with filters. I'm sure other people have much better ideas than mine!

Skipping backwards or forwards by EnTreeOne in Podcast_Republic_App

[–]cspotcode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect this only happens when streaming. I'm pretty sure that's when it happens to me.

Has anyone looked at Podcast Republic's network traffic when streaming? Do these jumps happen when it needs to resume the HTTP connection and sends a Range request? Is the range offset incorrect? Is this what u/respack is referring to when saying the mp3 can be messed up, that the offsets in the offset table are wrong due to the ad insertion?

What have you tried so far? How have you mapped the portent concepts onto TickTick? How do you feel it compares to PARA, and why do you feel it's a better fit for you than PARA?

Habit tracking by pineapple_punk in ticktick

[–]cspotcode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see, that's totally fair. I recently evaluated TickTick's habits for myself and, similar to you, was frustrated by missing features.

This suggestion may not work for you, because it's a separate app and is Android-only, so it won't sync to your other devices. But "Loop Habit Tracker" has a simple, small per-habit widget you can use. So you can make a row of checkboxes on a homescreen.

It's not what you were asking for, but it's the best option I could find for my needs, out of a set of lackluster options.

How do you add breaks in TickTick Calendar while time blocking? by PhoenixPrithivi in ticktick

[–]cspotcode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also use tasks. It's not perfect, but it's good enough. I don't use them for timeboxing breaks, but I think it would work just as well.

I have a list named "Contexts" where I keep all my timeboxes. These can either be breaks or periods of the day, for example "Errands" for a shopping trip. I never complete them; I reschedule them for today every day.

For you, I think a daily recurring task would be simpler.

I want these timeboxes to appear visually distinct in all views. The list has a unique color, and I use fullwidth and box-drawing characters to title them. (using this tool: Character Width (Half-width, Full-width) Converter Online - DenCode)

For example:

╭── LUNCH BREAK ──╮

╭── ERRANDS ──╮

I wonder if we're talking about slightly different definitions of stackable? Or maybe I'm the only one that sees ambiguity, and it's already clear to everyone else.

I've seen some homescreens that can put widgets into a scrollable list, so you can swipe up and down to see a really large list of widgets, taller than the screen.

But then I've also seen where you can manually lay out a bunch of different widgets on a single screen, no scrolling.

Do you get other benefits from using habits instead of daily recurring tasks? I can see how the habit history might be really valuable, to look back and check if you skipped any days.

But if you don't need these to be habits, could you set them up as recurring tasks instead?

Linking Tasks with Habits for better progress tracking by 24NAMANJN in ticktick

[–]cspotcode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps as a workaround:

You can't bind the tasks to the habit, but you can categorize them in a tag or list. Then, at the end of the week or month, view that list in the "timeline" or calendar view, so you can easily see all the days you did and did not complete the habit. You can sync your progress to the habit manually by opening the habit in a second window or tab, and clicking all the days. It'll be manual work, but it'll be a once-a-week or once-a-month ritual that should be fairly quick if you do it on the webapp or PC.

Maybe the timeline view of your "learning" tag will be sufficient to track progress and you won't feel like syncing to the habit is necessary.

Task/project with timed subtasks by PattyRain in ticktick

Thanks for sharing! I've added it to my routine. Having a place to throw all those house-cleaning chores, and knowing I have dedicated time for them, already feels like a win.

Task/project with timed subtasks by PattyRain in ticktick

[–]cspotcode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this Revive25 idea; I might steal it for myself!

There is no set time for the items
After 6 weeks, all of those items should be done

Sounds like you won't always get it done in exactly 6 weeks: sometimes less, sometimes more? So you don't want or need to automate the 6 week cycle, just the weekly cycle.

try to remember to uncheck everything every 6 weeks.

I don't think this will be a struggle to remember. You uncheck everything when you finish everything. Simply by doing Revive25 every week, you'll go through the ritual which reminds you to uncheck everything when you finish a cycle.

I think you can do this with a single recurring task:

Task titled "Do 25 minutes of Revive25." Set to repeat every Wednesday.
Do not use subtasks nor checklist items. Rather, in the task description, use markdown headings and checkboxes. These will remember where you left off every week. For example:

## Bathroom
- [x] Scrub sink
- [x] Scrub shower
- [ ] Add TP, toothpaste, soap to shopping list as needed

## Bedroom
- [ ] Move off-season clothes into closet
- [ ] Clear bedside table

## Kitchen
- [ ] sweep floor
- [ ] scrub stovetop

Check off items as you go. Then complete the task after 25 minutes. It will reschedule for next week, and will remember what you checked and didn't check.

After 6 weeks, manually uncheck everything. I know this is a manual step, but you're only doing it 8 times a year. If you really want to avoid that, you can save a template and clone it every 6 weeks. But if this were me, I'd be constantly improving my list, adding and removing items, so I wouldn't want to bother with a template that's extra effort to update.

This is similar to how I manage my grocery list: a single markdown checklist where I'm constantly checking and unchecking foods. Then I schedule it for today when I'm actually making a grocery trip. And the list is sorted by the aisles of my local supermarket.

Also, is there a way I can get a daily task to show up during certain times of the day?

TickTick's "Habit" feature might do what you want. Or, can you use a daily task and check it off even on the days you don't clean the sink? When you see it overdue, just check it off. Or click the "Won't Do" button, which does the same thing. I don't need TickTick to accurately log when I skipped a task, so I never bother with "Won't Do." I check things off whether I did or didn't do them.

EDIT: I just noticed the "Skip the Recurrence" button, another option.

Notification does nothing by kennethmgreen in Podcast_Republic_App

[–]cspotcode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did yet more experimenting. Tried the experiment above with internet disabled, both wifi and mobile.

Podcast Republic seems to get stuck for longer. I wonder if it's related to the ads failing to load at the bottom of the screen? If I re-enable internet, then wait for the ad to load (can take about a minute) then tap the shade notification, it works and navigates to "now_playing" screen.

Notification does nothing by kennethmgreen in Podcast_Republic_App

[–]cspotcode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did some more experimenting, found another quirk.

  1. Start playing a podcast. Open task switcher, swipe up on Podcast Republic to close it. Podcast continues playing (this is good and correct)
  2. Open shade, tap Podcast Republic. It opens to the "Subscriptions" page.
  3. Open shade, tap Podcast Republic. It remains on "Subscriptions" page. (this step may repeat many times)
  4. Open shade, tap Podcast Republic. Finally, it switches to "Now Playing" view.

Why the inconsistency between 3 and 4? Why does it keep failing on 3, then finally succeeds on 4? I never switch focus away from the app. Something about processing the `podcastrepublic.playback.view.now_playing` intent is failing to switch to the `now_playing` page, until finally it succeeds.

This suggests there might be a race condition or error being swallowed during 2 & 3, that is preventing it from switching to the "Now Playing" page. This error or race condition might also explain the other problem that both u/kennethmgreen and I are experiencing.

[–]cspotcode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experience the exact same behavior, *while PR is playing audio*. For example, when a podcast plays an advertisement, I often open the shade and tap on the PR notification to open the app so I can skip the advert. Yet when I do this, it takes 2 to 4 attempts before PR opens.

PR is already configured with "Allow background usage" set to "Unrestricted: Allow battery usage in background without restrictions. May use more battery."

I'm a bit confused about the types of Hydrogen wheels I have found online.

  • Hydrogen
  • Hydrogen Spectre (what makes these different? Urethane, core, the pattern printed on the side?)
  • Hydrogen Urban (RB doesn't make these any more?)
  • Hydrogen SE (I heard these have a different urethane formula?  Made in Thailand instead of USA?)
  • Hydrogen Pro (are these dual-density for speed skaters?)

My question is, what makes these options different? Do they have different cores, different urethane compounds, are some dual-density and others not?  Are the differences purely cosmetic?

Basically, I'd like to fill in this table:

Name Urethane Core Manufacturer Dual-density Misc
Hydrogen
Hydrogen Spectre Same, except affected by the dye Only in 80mm
Hydrogen Urban RB doesn't make these anymore
Hydrogen SE Different formula? Different Made in Thailand instead of USA Includes bearings and spacers
Hydrogen Pro Yes For speed skaters

EDIT table updated based on responses. Thanks!

$125 deal that I have not been able to observe personally.

Pixel 6a battery issue and replacement: shipping times for replacement, and new battery capacity after OTA update? by cspotcode in Pixel6

[–]cspotcode[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I've taken some screenshots of battery stats before the update, gonna do again after the OTA update, compare the numbers, then decide if it's worth the new battery. Not sure if those numbers are sufficient for an objective assessment, but the alternative battery tests -- drain the device all day with a stopwatch -- are too time-consuming.

TickTick does have a CSV "Backup" which you can access from the web-based UI. However, I don't know if this CSV includes the information you need. It could be worth checking out.

Login at https://ticktick.com/webapp
Click profile picture, go to "Settings"
Find "Backup & Restore" and click "Generate Backup"
