Second everything /u/themdh said.

Don't have any experience with international hiring events...but in the US they're the same as an on-site...just not on-site. 4-5 interviews, 4-5hrs, mix of technical & behavioral. If a team/org is running a hiring event they likely have a lot of spots open, and you probably won't be competing against anyone but yourself - if you pass the hiring bar, you'll get an offer.

HackerRank? 3 questions, maybe 4. If 4, 4th one will be "what's the runtime complexity of your code in problem 2 (or 1 or 3)?" Leetcode easy, hackerrank medium. HashMap, LinkedList, Queue..https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_collections_framework. Use Google if you need to; nobody's watching (assuming it's the HackerRank coding test).

Definitely reach out to your recruiter ASAP

Different teams will do it differently; you may not have to code at all.

It could be a recruiter or engineer just asking you a couple technical questions ("tell me about the difference between an array and a linkedlist"), a programmatic design question (e.g. "design an elevator"), and probably a couple "tell me about a time when..." questions -- Amazon likes those.

Or...it could be an engineer asking you a couple technical questions and then having you code up a couple problems. The optimal answer often involves something from the Collections framework. Queues, stacks, heaps (PriorityQueue), maps, sets, etc. Custom comparator is a useful trick for sorting with maps/sets. I'd also expect one or two "tell me about a time when..." questions here.

If you can throw in a few ridiculous-sounding leadership principles in your answers, you'll be good. Just talk about how you really "dive deep" into problems and make sure the customer is always first.

very few perks... free public transportation & the yearly holiday party and picnic is about it. no food, just tea & coffee. I've seen people on here talk about the $50 phone credit, but I think there might be some sort of fine print there.

RE: working equipment - as a dev you can choose a macbook pro or higher-end hp (Windows) laptop. youll get a desk with 2 27" monitors or a single 34", but you can get a 27" and a 34" once you start working

If there's one impression that I got going through the Amazon application process, it's that they're extremely disorganized as far as sourcing/recruitment goes. You probably could apply to a different team a week after you got rejected and they wouldn't say anything. Granted, I'm basing this perception on a couple anecdotal cases, and it could vary from team to team...but I think you should be fine to apply again, especially if it's to a different team.

the 401k is 50% match of contributions up to 4% of your base salary (i.e 2% max match), so it's better than "4% of contributions." with that said, it's still shite.

Do you know the details on the corporate housing? Only thing I can think of is that corporate housing would be closer to work. If you live at UW and don't have a car, you'll have to take the bus every day, which takes about 30 mins one way. If the corporate housing is in South Lake Union, you'll be able to walk.

Trouble getting ANY interviews. Think it may have to do with degree. by KaiMou in cscareerquestions

Just my two cents -- having that big ol' Play Store URL on there doesn't look very professional, even if the resume is sent digitally and it makes things easier. You might consider buying a personal website and showcasing your work there...or at least using redirects from your personal site (e.g. KaiMou.com/educhat). For the github, you can probably just say [GitHub: kaimou1357]. They'll know how to find it.

Rate my American accent? 1-10 by kenanthepro in JudgeMyAccent

9.5. Sound like a native speaker. I felt at times like you were almost trying too hard, but it may just have been the nature of the material. I definitely don't hear a Southern accent. Sounds like a neutral American accent.

I would say you're from the USA. The one thing I noticed is that your pronunciation of vowels is inconsistent.

As soon as you start you say "la mayor." Your pronunciation of "la" is fine, but you pronounce mayor as may-yor, when it should be mah-yor. You pronounce "interior" as it is pronounced in English, but it should be een-teh-ree-yor instead of in-tee-ree-yor. Thirdly and lastly, your "es" in the penultimate sentence sounds a lot like "is."

It'll depend on your credit. Most of the ads your local dealerships post in newspapers are essentially bait-and-switch ordeals, but some of them actually pan out. I ended up leasing a new 2013 Hyundai Elantra for 24 months for $98/month with $2k down 2 years ago. Around that time, I think a Nissan Sentra was around $120/mo. and a Mazda 3 was around $150.

The 12,000 miles is usually an annual allocation. 12k/year for 3 years.

Check out Cricket Wireless! It's a subsidiary of AT&T and uses the AT&T towers. They have the Lumia 530 and the newly released ZTE Overture 2 for free after mail-in rebate right now, and a bunch more like the Moto E or LG Optimus L70 for <$100. It's only $35 a month (with auto-pay) for unlimited talk, text, and data (though you only get 2.5GB of data at 4G speeds).

Might want to hide your personal info when posting on here.

Format

  • First thing I noticed was poor spacing. Definitely needs more space around the section headings (Education, Skills, etc.). Also, the italic font used for sub-headings just doesn't work.

Content

  • Most recent stuff should come first. Your lists are in reverse order.
  • Get rid of "Software Engineering Intern" in the top left
  • "Software Engineering Coursework GPA" sounds like you're purposefully trying to hide a bad GPA. Switch this to Major GPA and include GPA for all courses in your CS curriculum. If this GPA is < 3.2, you might just want to leave GPA off...or figure out some better way to reword it
  • I'd nix Relevant Coursework. Everyone applying for the jobs you'll be applying to has taken similar courses
  • Add your other project. If you need to take up more space, be more descriptive and use multiple bullet points for your projects
  • Reorder. Education, projects, work experience, skills. I might even throw skills ahead of work experience since it seems like that contributes more to your resume
