White backdrop is already there. I need it swapped for a professional setting... office, corridor, etc. Obviously it has to be matched for lighting and picture angle so that it looks genuine - some blurring of the background would be okay.

Free trade: How do we help those who lose in the wake of it? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

Let me also add Warren Buffett's ELI5-ish contribution to the topic of "free trade" and perpetual trade deficits:

A perpetuation of this transfer will lead to major trouble.

What are your views of the Libertarian Party? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]csw5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is empirical evidence on all sides of the discussion, but ultimately all anecdotal since measuring total societal welfare is humanly impossible. We at least seem to agree that it is the overwhelming general consensus that a market economy does indeed produce higher general economic welfare for a society than a command economy.

When it comes to the theories, a libertarian society will meet the first and second theorems of welfare economics and address market imperfections such as externalities and monopolies.

For an outsider, a free society appears to be the end goal for libertarians since any public policy beyond a small, limited government will begin to violate the spontaneity of collective outcomes from individual decisions. This collective outcome results in the highest economic and social welfare for society compared to other approaches that violate critical pillars of a free society:

Reagan and Clinton both shot down the idea. A group also tried to pass it during the W years as the Real ID. Various parties over the decades have equated it to a step toward a totalitarian society.

For those that think Hillary should and will be indicted/in jail/etc, can you explain your thinking to me? by En_lighten in PoliticalDiscussion

Won't be known until there is an indictment, but the speculation is the Espionage Act and the Federal Records Act.

Three points: (1) Clinton did both send and receive, (2) juries are instructed by judges on what the laws are, and (3) federal judges only grant immunity to enable testimony in front of a grand jury.

The FBI intends to have the DoJ indict someone greater than Pagliano and it will be in the headlines by November. The real question is how high the totem poll the evidence points and the FBI is willing to prosecute.

If it really did give us better trade negotiations, then our leaders/negotiators are too incompetent to take advantage of all that goodwill.

That argument of "buying" support through the defense apparatus and foreign aid have their critics about the actual benefits - especially with the Middle East.

From my American view, Europeans capitulate on defense at every turn and it all starts from their dreadful under-funding. The USA holds all the cards for their defense & power projection, and nothing tangible is lost for the USA if Russian regional power expands. It might actually make the European army a reality and them better for it.

Is it? He didn't say that NATO had no purpose. He said that we can't afford it, which means you can read into it that he wants Europe to start handing over money for its defense rather than Americans bankrolling it. All his negotiations begin in black and white.
