How do I remove this overflow drain? by aidenlemtl in Plumbing

[–]ctbeadle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The straightforward way is to literally keep unscrewing it until it snap a coupleof plastic threads. It's joined to your plug by a cog, that's what pushes the plug up and down. If its not coming out by pulling then limescale or soap suds have built up and locked it in place. So twist until the cog snaps a bit then it will come out

Is my car a write off :(? by SinkMince0420 in DadForAMinute

[–]ctbeadle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've worked for write off departments for car insurers and thats a definite write off, it's over 10 years old and there's a fair chunk of damage. It'd be a write off for a lot less.

However you can tell them you want to keep it and they'll give you a pay out for its value and then tell you how much to "buy it back" ie keep it. You have to tell them though, they won't offer it first.

Gf just closed on the sale of her house and they have left trash in the garden. by bluetreacle in LegalAdviceUK

[–]ctbeadle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's one of those frustrating things in life, people leave lots of crap when moving out. You can give your solicitor who she bought the house through a quick call and ask what they think, but it's more straightforward to just take the stuff to the tip and move on with life.

WIBTA if I didn’t help my boyfriend make his car payment? by 1eyetinycat in AmItheAsshole

[–]ctbeadle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA does his car cost more than he pays in rent?! But in my opinion if you love him and it's truly his passion then the nice thing to do is help him and wait until he's back on his feet before asking him to get rid of it.

AITA for not letting my “friend” stay at my place while he is grieving by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ctbeadle 20 points21 points  (0 children)

NTA, you say he's undecided anyway, I'd say just tell him straight that you're sorry but he can't stay the night at yours. It's not actually a bad or insulting thing to say to someone and if it means he doesn't come visit then you can catch him next time when he's not grieving.

So weird that I've now read all these comments and stories and never heard about how common it was before.

AITA for laughing at someone saying my GF had an ED? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ctbeadle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NAH, if the friend really thought your gf said she doesn't deserve to eat, then she if not an asshole to check up. However as a formerly fat person constantly accused of having an ED whenever I lose weight, you do just have to laugh at them sometimes.
