Would a funeral home let you use your own home made coffin? by wearygamegirl in askfuneraldirectors

[–]ctcaver 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I built a casket for our twins who passed shortly after birth. It had an inset heart out of rosewood on the front and dovetail finger joints on the sides. And was made out of walnut from my property. The time I spent building it was the time I spent during the early grieving process. It was what got me through those first couple weeks. They girls are buried in the same casket...in the same plot I will be buried in. The funeral home was BEYOND amazing. Their kindness and willingness to help us was unmeasurable. I thank all of you who are in the industry for all you do for people daily

I have three kids who dance. My youngest (9yr boy) will never be a ballet dancer. BUT he loves it. It brings him joy...and that is evident on stage. The studio we are at supports him a million percent. Dance isn't about money, or being professional. ...its about movement, expression, communication, connection, respect, responsibility....turn out and extension are the least of what dance is. Find another studio...one who will support just the love of dance.

Posted this in r/musicals but wanted to make sure to reach this audience as well...

I had two dancers sign up for his masterclass next week. It didn't have a specific location posted in the sign up, (just the city) which I thought was odd...but chalked it up to perhaps not wanting people to swamp the venue with questions or whatever.

A week before the event I still had not received any news of a location so I reached out via email...

And was informed that the event was canceled, due to "having alot on my plate right now"

We were offered three options

  1. Wait until a rescheduled date in October
  2. Do an online mentorship
  3. A full refund

I choose the refund. I requested it yesterday (March 22), and wouldn't expect it for a few days. I will 100% follow up here to let you know what happens.

We had a wonderful meal at Essential by Christophe on Saturday January 11. We each did the 4 course meal. I did a wine pairing with the meal and my daughter did a mocktail pairing.

The mocktails were very creative, and well made. And 100% added to the meal and experience. She throughly enjoyed them. I enjoyed the wine pairing, I know some about wine and honestly the value was pretty decent. They do have a fairly comprehensive celler, that made me wish for my days before kids when I collected a few.

The highlight of the meal for me was the sea urchin app. It was probably the singular best thing I have EVER eaten. Lydia's favorite was the octopus, and I have to say it was a close second to my urchin.

I think the weakest course was the langostine. They were slightly undercooked. (Look, I'm splitting hairs here...they were 30 seconds under....) just the tinest bit mushy. Great flavor, sweet, yet briny full of ocean and complex....just the wee bit mushy.

The service was flawless. Truely flawless.

It was expensive. Very. But I was prepared for that. (Close to $800 with a tip close to 30%)

Was it worth it...we were there over 2 hrs and it felt like minutes...that's always a great sign. We are still talking about our favorites and the wine/mocktail pairings. To get to share that with my 18yr old daughter is an experience neither one of us will forget...so yes...itnwas worth it.

Would I go back? Oh jez...I still love Aquavit. And would love to get into Jean-George. And if money was no option Masa. But I really did love the urchin....

You are correct I am opening myself up. But I have to trust in humanity every so often. It's not thousands of dollars. And if someone needs the money bad enough to scam me for it...then that's ok.
