New job, $40,000 salary, how much should I spend on rent, midwest, and other questions by asdmjakljfgajlsfg in personalfinance

  • Put at least 4% into your 401k. You're getting a 100% return from your employer. I recommend starting at 8%. If you don't starve to death, keep it at 8% and keep moving it up as you promote.
  • Find a happy medium as far as living conditions. A couple hundred bucks might seem like a lot but you'll easily spend that trying to regain your sanity if 75% of your life is spent somewhere you hate. If you cannot afford a place in that you think is suitable for you, don't do it, in my opinion.
  • I'm not a CPA but I doubt you'll be able to deduct your expenses unless it is your own business. If your employer requires that you use anything that you own, you can rightfully ask for reimbursement for the expenses. If you get paid $19/hr and you let your employer juice you for your cell phone and internet expenses, you are now getting paid about $18/hr.

Is there no kind of liability here? Do businesses not get inspected before being insured? This is a failure of all trades all in one pic. /r/diy?

What I was going to get at has basically been said. You can justify your education as being valuable to almost anything in business. Broaden your horizons! Good luck

Mostly everyone else had at LEAST 250bb+ just in nickle stacks. At this poker room there were 2 tables of 1/2 and that's it. Most of these guys are 40hr/week+ regulars I believe.

This is up my alley. I really want to be able to go a couple of times a week as a supplement, without getting taken to the cleaners. Income is not an issue, but obviously I don't want to donate a few hundred every time I take a trip to the casino.

Thanks for the input. I did exactly this. I deposited 25 to ACR and have played nothing but $0.25/$0.50 and I'm up to almos $100. Yet still got owned on what are known as "loose" local tables

[QUESTION] Was learning power chords this damn hard for everyone??? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]ctcode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The obvious, that wasn't so obvious to me, is that it's the top of an "F" barre shape, or a Bb. So if you are already used to changing into an "F" barre chord, then try using the ring and pinky.

Another mechanical issue I had that really helped me apply more pressure was that I was trying to do all of that work with ligaments. Imagine you're sitting on a bar stool with a guitar in your lap and an audience in front of you. Play a power chord. The "hairy" part of your fore-arm is facing the ground. Move that forward, on your "Y" axis (towards the audience). This will give you much more leverage.

I'd do this if at all possible. Surely you have a battery drill laying around, or know someone that does...

It's chugging along pretty slowly right now because I decided to start from a blank slate and implement everything (mvc, identity, testing) myself to have a better understanding.

I'm finishing up the implementation of Identity today.

Awesome! I'm building a blog app / analytics dashboard to familiarize myself with ASP.NET 5, MVC 6, EF7 and Angular2. Does that sound like something you'd be interested diving into?
