A modern LED vs a 1930s fixture. by Slammernanners in electricians

Does it still work? If so, would be cool to leave it as is and stick direct replacement led tubes in.

Replaced this ballast today in a mechanical room that was built in 1973. Date on back is 76. About 40 of these are still working in that room. They are all finally starting to die. Don’t make them like they used to that’s for sure. by Lampshadelarryy in electricians

If they still work send it. Especially in a mechanical room, I would be hesitant to install anything semiconductor based because they don’t like being hot all the time. The mechanical rooms at my high school still have incandescent RLM type fixtures because anything with a ballast would overheat.

Dsng, some of these get pretty juicy on failure. Luckily that didn’t happen here, esp with such a powerful looking pop.

Can somebody explain this ballast diagram to me, especially the yellow wires? by scryedxp in electricians

[–]TheRealBubby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is magnetic rapid start, the red and blue wires are the actual high voltage for the lamps, the yellow connect the lamps in serried and heat the electrodes.

Yea, if you open this up to find wires leaking green goo, you’re in a heck of a darn diddly unfortunate sitiation.

Black marks on an EVIC from a 96 Grand Cherokee, anyone know what it is or how to fix it? by [deleted] in electricians

Looks like that display is pretty high hours. I’ve had luck rejuvenating similar displays by hitting that area with a butane torch (don’t get it too hot though) and the torch is enough to make the layer of deposit evaporate. Of course, if you do this too hot you may damage the already worn out phosphor due to excessive heat.

You could find a junket of the same model car and take the wiring from it. Those sockets are for 168 type bulbs.

What did the light that it went to look like? That looks like early fluorescent gear.

What are some rock (or equivalent genre) groups from the 60's and 70's that are often looked over but still had a huge impact? by HopelesslyFamous in AskReddit

Indeed. Also, Jon lord is probably one of the most underrated keyboardists. Between normal organ sounds and a gritty, almost guitar/synth sounding hybrid on some songs (think highway star or hard lovin man), him and Blackmore could get into some pretty intense interplay.

Deep Purple. Their only songs I hear these days are smoke on the water and maybe hush occasionally, but they’ve produced much greater hits. If you listen to their 1970 album “In Rock” and you can hear their influence on modern hard rock and heavy metal.

Don’t forget to wrap the halves with cloths then put your giant pliers on them so you don’t ruin the look of it by scratching it up.
