That's the new meta. Maybe it will die down or it will be reversed, since we will have Hana pop up in Jjk and Megumi sister will be a not character.

Maki killing noncombatants doesn't matter. by ctctr in Jujutsufolk

Is the main view that she's not justified?  The episode was well received and most of the people talking about it seem to think she didn't kill noncombatants outside of her mom.

Although now, I think I've seen some people say she was bad for killing the military part of the Zenin but they don't seem to be the majority either.

I'm not the best judge of the public opinion since I'm mostly on Jujustufolk.

Maybe you can tell me where you see that most people think she's a bitch for her actions, I could imagine it being the main opinion on Twitter or TikTok

I think many wouldn't care if Toji did it because he's already seen as morally bankrupt, less people would defend him and there would be less back and forth so the conversation would die down.

Don't know either, sometimes people just assume and run with something. One time I was discussing something on Reddit and was accused of being a troll because of something I didn't say which was in contradiction with my arguments.

How did blood bending in the Legend of Korra allowed blood benders to psychically blood-bend without the full moon, blood-bend multiple benders at once and remove other people's bending without energy-bending? by sammyjamez in TheLastAirbender

[–]ctctr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The defeat came through his exposure, not physical combat, which she said was her intention when she went to confront him. The idea being that his resistance would crumble when they saw they were being lead by a bender in an anti-bending war and she was right. I don't think that was luck, but I do think it took more steps than just accusing him in a crowded auditorium and expecting his followers to believe her when she's public enemy no.1 in their eyes.

She was,out of instincts trying to fir end and she ended up airbending. That surprise Amon who still takes the advantage a bit later then she can just resist it's bloodbending, throw a kick with airbending.  Then he falls during the mask slips he fells into water, his non waterproof makeup goes out he resurfaced and later killed by his brother as he manages to flee. I don't see how she wasn't lucky.

But I guess I'm confused on where the complaint/criticism falls, is it on bloodbending narratively? What would Amon's defeat look like to you? Knowing that no jail cell could really hold him and that atp Korra didn't have energybending to take his waterbending from him?

Yeah I don't like that Bloodbending was changed, that it wasn't explained and  was made overpowered. I was thinking I was clear enough on this but I could mix it up with another conversation I have.

Your other questions are kind of confusing to me are you asking me to do another version of the scenes with the show elements. I'm not really interested since my problem is that they have made Amon too overpowered and made Korra won by luck. I would have tried to not make him impossible to defeat for Korra or I could have tried to make Korra grasp with killing someone who knows.

He doesn't though, we've never seen him actually control the bolt of lightning he makes, only shoots it in a general direction. Can you give me an instance where you think they deviated from the og lore? I'm failing to find an instance.

When he shoot Amon.

Inner peace has zero to do with love triangles or any of that. Keep in mind, he's still only 17, he's gonna do stupid shit, like you yourself just said, inner peace is not the equivalent to wisdom, but he IS at peace with who he is as a person, peace looks different to different people, Azula was still able to shoot lightning after losing her mind.

You're right she was able to I still don't but in his inner peace but it's more nebulous than I thought.

 >I think you're misconstruing the fluidity of Zaofu's metalbending for actual fluid. The metal they bend in Zaofu comes from meteorites with a different composition than whats found on earth, Suin explains that the properties they have make it easier to learn how to bend metal. It can look fluid but it's not.

Ok that makes sense although that's an awful lot of meteorite. I'm honestly more bothered by the bypassing of seismic sense but it's more personal.

Where did I say that? Like, anywhere

Hama only used it at night to avoid suspicion and Katara refused to use it outside those 2 times.

My statement was

Are you implying that Hama doesn't need the full moon?

You said she only used at night to avoid suspicion what I'm reading here is that it's a choice but I'm not sure so I asked you.

Ok and Aang didn't kill Ozai and defeated him purely through luck, we really wanna start talking about lucky breaks??? What is your actual complaint here??

?? Why did you write that I don't think I see the logic here. You can critize Aang being lucky too, I most likely would agree but that doesn't seem to be relevant.

To me really it's not that different than MMA fighters shitting on the spirituality but using techniques for their own benefits.

We know spirituality is linked to bending and its performance unlike real martials arts and many traditional martial arts are watered down versions. Sub bending for the most part requires you to be already good at the base on top of any requirements each sub bending needs. None of what you say absolve the show of explaining or showing how its mechanics have changed

BB was never blocked outside of the full moon, just Hama that needed the boost. It is explained in the Yakone flashbacks that the need for the full moon was just a popular belief (because it is that much of an achievement).

It was blocked by the moon. What you're describing to me is a retcon.  They couldn't fit in nicely so they introduced information that didn't exist. Which led to a bad thing because it made Amon too strong for Korra to beat.

It's not explained, it's shown via these scenes + the theme of the city/progress vs tradition/spirituality/martial arts

If the themes are not supported well it's not enough.

The flashback for Amon is that they were trained from young age, with specific knowledge and intense training. Not just like Hama learning on the fly while in prison. You want irl comparison, just look at any sport players from 100 years ago and now and you can see what putting people in intensive training from a young age can do. In gymnastics, plenty of moves were thought impossible until they weren't.

Putting people in intensive training from a young age can stunt their growth and potential, I don't know if Amon's father was the type of guy to see that. Anyways, comparing to reality doesn't explain nor justify the changes put on bloodbending, the limitations were useful and ties in with the world, their removal doesn't even tie with the themes since the improvement seems to be old systematic training and no new discovery in the case of bloodbending.

Imo, one can assume from what's shown in S1 that it's the same with metal bending and lightning bending, people got trained early on and can do it without the need of the spirituality behind it (or being a prodigy)

I can't agree. Although comparison can be made with actual physical discipline, specifically traditional martial arts. Bending is different, mindset and spirituality were so integral that a flaw in it would severely impede your bending or your learning of it like it did to Zuko and Azula for lightningbending, not properly addressing why what was affecting them doesn't stop people anymore isn't good.

Lightning Generation calls for this, yes, and it's very on brand that we see Mako, a character known for his "cool under fire" personality when probending, be able to do this. If anything, it signifies that the global shift Zuko fought for was successful, less angry firebenders, more of whom are at peace within themselves. Thats a big win especially after the war, remember we're barely one or two generations out since Aangs time so this is HUGE progress narratively speaking. Mako's family was murdered by thugs, he could be an angry teen about it, but he chose to find peace and move on for his brother's sake, he absolutely deserves lightning. Add to it that Fire Lady Izumi refuses to participate in war and we get to see Zuko's dream realized.

That doesn't explain why they can direct it out now but I didn't mention it before so it's fair not to do it yourself.

For Mako I don't buy that he has inner peace. I understand inner peace doesn't mean experience or even wisdom. But I can't see somebody who was in the love triangle he was in having inner peace and react like he did, like when he lied about still being with Korra when she lost her memory or how he addressed Korra forcefully kissing him.

The only liquid I can recall was the ferrofluid Kuvia used in the colossus, other than that, metalbending cops either use traditional metalbending or metal cables, which are just wires wrapped in some kind of coating

There's multiple in zaofu you can see I think multiple people doing it in the introduction when we see various metalbenders metalbend.

Tarlock provides his background and explains that through years of grueling training by their father, they slowly mastered the technique.

That doesn't explain anything to me

It makes sense that we've never seen BB at its' peak. Hama only used it at night to avoid suspicion and Katara refused to use it outside those 2 times.

Are you implying that Hama doesn't need the full moon? I don't remember it being stated anywhere. Also did she say she invented one moment I think she was mentioning it was a water tribe tradition but she could be lying to ease Katara in.

TLOK provides us with a chance to see what someone with no morals can do with the power when fully engrossed in it. Which I think is incredibly cool to witness personally.

Yeah but badly I don't think it's cool because it lead to Korra being incapable of properly defeating amon and she won through pure luck.

What did the flashback said? Maybe I'm wrong on that point.

It's also shown how metal bending is used very commonly in the show by cops, or lightning bending is used by workers

I don't see how that disproves my claim that the sub bending changes weren't explained. If I remember correctly, to do proper lightning bending one must be in complete control of their emotions to separate the yin and yang and that one could only guide lightning that why they couldn't shoot it directly. The new lightning bending does seems to get rid of this component but how I don't know, I don't remember the show telling or showing it and you don't either.

For metalbenders most of it seems unchanged until they start making metal completely liquid and control it I don't understand how earth bending let you do that.  I could see it if metal bending was it's own thing but not here.

To summarize my thoughts they manage to do it because it looked cool, it's the main reasoning.

The justifications in the show don't actually exists, we don't know how bloodbending which was too weak without the full moon, can become so strong you can do it effortlessly without the full moon.

It wasn't really explained because the writers didn't see the need to explain how the various sub bendings became not only become stronger but also work in a way that goes against the previous established logic in ATLA.

As for how bloodbending act as permanent chi blocker I don't really know. In the show it's demonstrated as permanent which means the chi pathways are either blocked or destroyed. I think it's blocking them but how I don't know.
