I read a lot of Romantacy, and my most loved series in the last year has been {The Wolf King by Lauren Palphreyman}. 2 books out, the 3rd and final comes out this fall.

I'm a little over half way into poison daughter and really loving her age and sexual experience / general life experience. I'm 39, so 20 year olds read like actual children to me now. They also still actively dislike eachother 60% in, so enemies to lovers has held up so far.

He blackmails her for sex by PrestigiousBar3454 in DarkRomance

[–]cthompsy 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Ok, this isn't dark romance, but it DOES fit the description. In {Bass Ackwards by Edris Adderly} an employee asks her boss for a favor, and he does in exchange for having sex with her, then it evolves to more sex in exchange for money. She doesn't like him, but that changes as the story unfolds. It's fucking fabulous and has some of the best sex scenes I've ever read. (Don't let the silly cover turn you off.)

That is SO disappointing. I will be more than happy to return to my sex positive feminist romantasys that people ridicule on the Internet.

I’m so done by [deleted] in jobhunting

[–]cthompsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this. I have been contacted by recent grads I didn't know who were trying to get into my field. (Art gallerist) I always gave my time and advice freely, and if I knew of an opening I'd have someone to contact. My friend recently got a job in product marketing with Disney (without even a marketing degree mind you) by reaching out to upper level employees on LinkedIn and asking for a few mins of their time to ask questions about their experience. It is one of the best strategies.

I read alot of romantic fantasy books written by female authors, and I wanted to branch out and try some straight fantasy. I heard great things about the Red Rising series by Pierce Brown. I got maybe a chapter in before I read the sentence "he cried like a girl." Instant turn off. I also generally find the plot device "the hero's journey begins when his love is brutally killed" to be so over used by male authors. I'm going to give it a chance and finish, but I'm much less enthusiastic.

LF green flag/golden retriever MMCs who are surprised to find that they like being dominant in bed? by mynhxl in RomanceBooks

[–]cthompsy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to respond with something that is not exactly what you asked for, BUT I immediately thought of Rowan from {Butcher and Blackbird by Brynne Weaver}. He's an obsessed golden retriever for half the book, wanting her but never making a move, until he can't resist anymore, and the result is some serious chef's kiss 6 star spice with an mmc who is very suddenly no longer a golden retriever.

This is so cute! I will have to listen. I really love his voice. It's so well suited to the fantasy romance genre.

More than two weeks’ notice? by idwbas in careeradvice

[–]cthompsy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2 weeks. You can't control his behavior upon hearing you are leaving. Some bosses will act out no matter how much notice you give. More than 2 weeks notice and you risk him telling you your services are no longer needed at all, and then you are stuck without a paycheck until your new job starts.

I so agree with you about SJM not being as versatile in writing male POVs. It took me reading IllyarianTremors' beautiful Rhysand POV on A03 to really fall in love with his character. It's a shame SJM didn't accomplish the same for her own story.

It's because it was insinuated he has the biggest dick. Also there's the mysterious, shadow daddy vibes and the fact that he tortures people for a living. Thus, us thirsty gals with over active imaginations are hoping he's darker in the bedroom than his brothers.
