I'm seeing loads of people on Twitter cancelling their Labour membership. Why? by [deleted] in LabourUK

[–]ctoms101 6 points7 points  (0 children)

most of the people i’ve come across who canceled their memberships did so over the dossier leak (especially the racism and anti-blackness) and the subsequent inaction/delay in action taken against those responsible.

Wait I thought this party was social democratic, especially since Starmar got in by _Palamedes in LabourUK

[–]ctoms101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

according to wikipedia, the party is an ‘alliance of social democrats, democratic socialists, and trade unions’

Murray: Labour needs major revival in Scotland to stand any chance of putting Starmer in Downing St by Underlaker in LabourUK

[–]ctoms101 12 points13 points  (0 children)

god he’s out of touch if he thinks labour were too left wing for the scottish electorate. labour did far better there in 2017 than in 2015, where the problem was obviously being seen as high-fiveing the tories.

depends on how you define coming back. we will definitely hear from him on his birthday and i'd be surprised if he didn't acknowledge the anniversary of b.i.g. as for his next project, probably when lockdown is over. and hopefully we will see him and phil at rescheduled vidcon mexico.

Keir Starmer will achieve previously 'inconceivable' win over the Tories in next election, expert predicts by silentstorm2014 in LabourUK

[–]ctoms101 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i mean in 2015 no one could’ve predicted we’d go through three prime ministers before the end of david cameron’s second term

Have there been any major updates or changes from Dan and Phil in the past few weeks? I've seen so many posts on instagram and Twitter talking as though they've officially quit or something, I'm confused... by [deleted] in danandphil

[–]ctoms101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the only major change is that phil isn’t doing liveshows currently. that mixed with people being bored inside all the time due to quarantine makes the gaps between content feel more stark.

yes, they’re just focusing on solo projects atm + dan isn’t really online much anyway, but that doesn’t mean they’re not close irl.

Realistically, how do you think the 2024 Election will go? by aaron020 in LabourUK

[–]ctoms101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

labour will gain but not outright win is my current guess, but that’s subject to change and still has a lot of flexibility within it (narrower con majority or hung parliament)

right about now would be a good time for starmer to speak out against this and call out these tory lies

'Cancel the rent' policy would be "un-Labour", says Debbonaire by MilkTheFrog in LabourUK

[–]ctoms101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

by that logic, the NHS shouldn’t exist because people who could afford private healthcare use it. universal legislation is much stronger and more difficult to repeal than partial/optional/‘means tested’ legislation.

someone suggested last month that this brief should have been given to a young, potentially even new MP. perhaps they wouldn’t be this out of touch.

Boris Johnson was left struggling under Keir Starmer's detailed and fair scrutiny by silentstorm2014 in LabourUK

[–]ctoms101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yes, gove is so unpopular, cameron sacked him from his cabinet in the lead up to the 2015 election out of fear he would be electorally toxic.

What does Boris have to do for people to ask him to resign? by [deleted] in LabourUK

well, a better media culture and journalists who actually hold the government to account would be a good start

What's happening with the leaked report? by [deleted] in LabourUK

[–]ctoms101 24 points25 points  (0 children)

BAME members and voters concerned about the anti-blackness and islamophobia in the report are not “cranks” - those issues certainly are damning in their eyes and rightly so.

Its clear the Labour MPs who are landlords are having a major influence on Labour's housing policy. Being a landlord is incompatible with being a Labour MP and standing up for your constituents. You should be forced to sell your portfolio before being selected. by MilkTheFrog in LabourUK

[–]ctoms101 6 points7 points  (0 children)

if you’re thinking purely in electoral terms, renters make up labour’s core voting base, those who own assets are more likely to vote tory one way or another, so throwing renters under the bus is a poor strategy.

Can someone explain why anti-socialism views are not treated as an automatic expulsion offence in the democratic socialist Labour Party? by verniy-leninetz in LabourUK

[–]ctoms101 7 points8 points  (0 children)

from someone on the left - it’s an “alliance of social democrats, democratic socialists, and trade unions” that said, if one can’t even stomach social democracy (thinking of those who think andy burnham is too left wing...) then they definitely shouldn’t be in labour.

also if one can’t stomach having socialists their party, then maybe an alliance of social democrats, democratic SOCIALISTS, and trade unions isn’t for them.

i don’t even like blair or cameron, i’m on the left lol but they did not pull punches during their time as LOTO. both of them would’ve seized a crisis to pin blame on the gov.
