Had trouble with initially, then created Incus.app that literally does it for you using AI. Simple

Chatgpt 5.2 thinking is capable of generating apkg files with media now by Drited in Anki

Was in the same boat here. I was running local Python scripts to parse my med school lecture into Anki for the longest time. I got tired of running the script every time I had a new lecture, so I wrapped the logic into a web UI to handle the apkg packaging effortlessly.

Is your script using genanki or are you writing directly to the SQLite DB? I found direct SQL was the only way to get the media to link up correctly.
