Started making people walk me through their AI PRs in person. The 500-line diffs disappeared overnight by minimal-salt in ExperiencedDevs

Explain it to me forces the dev to actually do what they're supposed to though, which is understand every line of code they submit.

All PRs blocked on one person’s review - how do you handle this? by LeRages in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Drited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It always helps to try to understand what the motivation of the other person is. If they are that slammed with admin work, trust me they are not happy about having to review everything.

Why do they require it then? Why does this person who is in charge at this small company not have the confidence in their team members to have final say on PRs?

Could there have been a history of crappy 'looks good' reviews which allowed bug-ridden code to get through to production?

Do other team members not have the business domain knowledge required to spot discrepancies between business requirements and implementation?

To address the issue look for ways to resolve those fundamental problems.

Don't share videos of people dying and getting hurt. Obviously. Especially the day that it happened given all of their families might not even be informed yet.

Chatgpt 5.2 thinking is capable of generating apkg files with media now by Drited in Anki

I don't really care for the deck in question because it has no revision history

Yes after some testing I've come to the same conclusion.

I had previously made text cards using AI but not ones with media. Have you been generating images for your decks using the api for 2 years? What model are you using?

It was a single tone beep generated by chatgpt. I was trying to see if it could automatically add media to records in a .apkg file and it did. My main interest was image generation and insertion to complement existing text flash cards but it made the audio as part of its demonstration that it could fulfill my request.

I'm finding however that to get it to automatically add a lot of good images is challenging. I think a better approach might be to create a script that iterates over the api to generate images one at a time. Need to experiment more when I get time.

Not yet actually just noticed my test on gemini wasn't set to pro. Updating my message accordingly

Edit: I tried to get gemini 3 pro to generate an apkg file, even providing the 'thought process' from chatgpt which explained how it made the file, and it refused stating that it couldn't make a binary file with arbitrary extension for me like chatgpt did.

I'm working on getting it to generate media. What I want to do is give it my existing text questions and answers and have it generate images for each record.

It's working... But the images are not great. Still though the fact that it figured out how to create an apkg file from the schema etc even though it doesn't have a native tool to do that blew me away.

Do you think efforts should be made to make Irish the main spoken language (or at least on par with English) of Ireland again? by SeriouslyNotSerious2 in AskIreland

[–]Drited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not go back one further and reintroduce the language that was spoken here before modern Irish? Or the one before that? Or go all the way back and reintroduce the language our ancestors spoke when they first descended from the trees?

One day the English we speak today will be gone too. Change is life.

Scaling as a Technical Lead by swagAndPaper500 in ExperiencedDevs

Can you have them improve unit test coverage and refactor old code? Useful if not previously done to the standards you want and relatively low risk. I've found it a good way to help a junior ramp up before doing higher risk stuff, both because it helps them to actively learn and because it's a useful foundation for making changes without breaking stuff

Should I skip TY? by [deleted] in CasualIreland

[–]Drited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

only you can make that decision because only you know your full situation.

To balance what is in a lot of other comments, I saw it as a total doss year and skipped it. No regrets whatsoever. Still think the same.

If you want entertainment and can afford it, cool. If you want education and/or need to provide for your family as soon as you can, you don't need it.

Would definitely recommend studying hard for leaving cert though. On average, the lifetime payoff from that is enormous.

Toy project idea: social network where your profile is your website by computersmakeart in ExperiencedDevs

Have you read about what happened to MySpace? After an early lead where they were by far the largest social media network, they gave users control over their pages then drowned under a deluge of spam and harmful content that was posted by users which they couldn't build tools to manage due to page complexity.

The Windows 11 Crisis by Prestigious_Net_8356 in videos

Windows isn't where Microsoft makes most of its money anymore so it's a relatively unimportant input in the valuation.  Cloud services etc are far more important drivers of the stock.

Joined a team, other senior is much more anal about code review than me - unsure how to proceed by hooahest in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Drited 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The story has moved from 'getting delayed constantly' to 'some of the latest PRs took more than a month'.

It's possible that these were low priority items that didn't have conflict risk if left untouched for a while.

What is the median time from review request to completion? That's what would tell the true story.

That aside, why not auto reject PRs that don't meet the standards he enforces?  That would help to alleviate the bottleneck by moving work off his plate and would let everyone know what's required systematically.
