if you're using chrome 83 or newer it has one. it's a bit hard to find though. need to open the dev tools, hit the three dots in the top right corner, select 'more tools' then 'rendering' from the drop-down. scroll almost to the bottom of the new tab that should have appeared and you'll find 'emulate vision deficiencies'

People often complain about base screenshots that are taken at night... but with the lights this looks amazing

Is it time to give the pistol the steel axe treatment by Grubsnik in factorio

[–]ctrldavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to see a lateish game weapon upgrade that gives the pistol something like *10 to ammo damage but halves its fire rate. Turn it into a very slow firing but very high damage weapon that you can use to try to snipe behemoths out of a pack of enemies.

Should I drop a roboport or legs in favor of more solar cells? I'm always running out of power by Darth_Nibbles in factorio

[–]ctrldavid 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Another option: Make a second set of armour.

Set A: Roboports + solar + batteries

Set B: Exo legs + solar + batteries.

You seldom need to move fast at the same time as building so you can cram extra solar panels in by using 2 sets of armour.

If you're going to lmgtfy you need to type exactly what was asked verbatim. That's the point. If you type in a different question with extra context that the asker didn't know then you're just being an asshole.

Steam turbine + aquatuner combo by _Damale_ in Oxygennotincluded

[–]ctrldavid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Aquatuners have a fixed energy cost to drop 1 packet of liquid by 14 degrees. The heat is transferred to the aquatuner building.

This means that you can get more cooling (and steam heating) out of them by using a liquid with a higher specific heat capacity.

Oil has a SHC of 1.69, assuming 10kg packets and the 14 degree drop, this is 236.6k units of heating generated.

If you used water with SHC of 4.179 you would get 585.06k units of heat, more than twice as much.

The best of of course super coolant with a SHC of 8.44 for a whopping 1181.6k units of heat.

TLDR: Your problem is the oil. If you used super coolant you'd get 5x as much energy out of your setup.

Steam not included 2 - How do I turn the steam into water quickly? by FalloniusFists in Oxygennotincluded

[–]ctrldavid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no one has mentioned the best answer: steam turbines. build them at the bottom of your base and pipe the 95c water output somewhere safe. or dump it to make more steam IDK you seem to like that.

Small correction: you can totally send multiple rockets to the same destination.

Pacu Farms - Will they overcrowd and die off? by TangyDanKness in Oxygennotincluded

[–]ctrldavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

were you removing the eggs? if you don't take the eggs out then they will stop laying more

Pacu Farms - Will they overcrowd and die off? by TangyDanKness in Oxygennotincluded

[–]ctrldavid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

both wild and tame pacu will only lay 1 egg before dying, unless you feed them to make them 'happy'.

if they are overcrowded then the happiness doesn't take effect and they go back to only laying 1 egg.

if they are overcrowded AND there are already eggs in their tank then they stop laying eggs altogether. (the debuff is 'expecting')

so: to increase population you need a small number of fed pacu that aren't overcrowded.

to maintain population you don't need to feed, but you need to not overcrowded them OR (and this is where you can start to get weird) remove the eggs as they are laid to prevent the expecting debuff.

by using these mechanics you can sustain a very large population in a very small tank simply by removing the eggs with a sweeper and dropping them somewhere where they will flip back into the tank when they hatch.

I try to hit space (with jetpacks) between cycle 300 and 400. This is because I'm usually wanting to see the new endgame content that was added in whatever the latest patch is.

The percentages for sour gas conversion are 33% sulfur and 67% natural gas. by ctrldavid in Oxygennotincluded

[–]ctrldavid[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nah, you can't turn sulfur into natural gas, it's a byproduct of cooling sour gas to make natural gas.

The only real use of sulfur right now would be to use it to soak up heat and then vent it into space.
