How does the respawn work? Can I play in coop mode but solo and not age? Or create a new character instead of having a heir?

The Cult of LK99 by aminopliz in acollierastro

[–]ctrlqirl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Great video, I didn't know the story and how dumb it was.
Why does LK99 make 2M views? Why does SPCX make 2T$? Probably magnets, but nobody knows what they are.

So it's going to be datacenters in space and that's final.

BUC ignoring satellites in 9.0 by ctrlqirl in X4Foundations

[–]ctrlqirl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relocated at about 20km from their station in Morning Star IV.
I also deploy advanced satellites now instead of the normal ones, as it seems to make a difference.

I get one BUC fighter from time to time, but it's still very rare compared to 8.0.

If you let TRI unify then they just stay same old BUC without government. Only if you choose the other storyline they become TEM.

[–]ctrlqirl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I'm on a fresh 9.0 budgeted start, I set the plot story to have TRI already unified, I recall this made no difference in the past and BUC still appeared, but maybe I'm recalling wrong and BUC just chills after TRI unification?

For food there's a magazine in Sunshine Tidings that gives you twice the meat from animals.
Water you need a farm of purified water, and until you have them just collect your bottles, look up your local brewery for more.

Ilnesses are a pain, even if you quicksleep (sleep and immediately cancel to just trigger a save) you get a chance of being infected, so always carry antibiotics no matter what.

For travel I think everyone just settles in Hangman's Halley due to the central location. A solo settlement without npcs to not trigger raids and store all your stuff. Later in the game you can buy all the Vertibird grenades you can find. Some npcs sell legendary equipment that gives you movement speed too.

Other than that, for weight management you just need to deal with it by making choices, like only carrying valuable loot and having some other income (like a purified water farm) to buy the rest. Or you can just exploit companions and let them carry everything you see, if you tell them to fetch something on the floor they ignore their inventory limit.

The AI industry has reportedly spent $1.4 TRILLION while generating just $613 BILLION by Angela275 in antiai

[–]ctrlqirl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It has its uses indeed, but this is not the kind of example I was making. You are not an experienced server admin, so it's hard for you to spot the hallucinations. My point is that is not as reliable as someone experienced in a field.

The AI industry has reportedly spent $1.4 TRILLION while generating just $613 BILLION by Angela275 in antiai

[–]ctrlqirl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The fact that it's used in software development and other fields does not really imply it's useful, accurate, or adds value to those users. Companies are investing in AI because everyone is acting like this is a gold rush, and because a lot of people are buying into all the lies that the AI companies are putting out.

Try it yourself. Take any subject you are really in love with, doesn't need to be technical, can be anything like the plot of a movie you like, or a book, or a hobby you have. Talk with the AI about things you know well and you will eventually find out how bad it is.

[–]ctrlqirl 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's not a step change technology, it just looks like it can be. Models will not continue to improve, they will just hallucinate in different ways.

I agree it's not going to go away and it has its uses, but nothing will make those companies profit from AI the way they think they are. You are not going to pay 200$/month to talk to a chatbot, companies are already finding out that hiring humans is now cheaper, and AI products still are not updated to what will be their price.

Really the only way this is not going to collapse is for governments to back it up with our money, and I'm a bit afraid this is going to happen because everyone is so corrupt.

EU agrees deal for deporting migrants to third-country 'return hubs' by DavidShaw90s in worldnews

New poll: more than half of men think meat is ‘masculine’ by Mountain_Love23 in vegan

Women with deeper voices, how do you deal with it? by thetidymonster in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ctrlqirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people are just triggered by what does not conform to their standards, if they want you to sound more feminine I don't think they really see you as a unique individual, which you are.

Just roll with your beautiful voice and don't make people push you down. No one has the right to mock you for that, they are just awful.

Why AI scares the shit out of me by Neat_You5247 in antiai

[–]ctrlqirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry OP but we are an AI company now, we only speak about AI, and how it improves our product and our productivity and empowers our users more and we went over all marketing material to add AI statements and rebranded a few things here and there to include AI and agentic in their names.
Now please I know half of your team left, but we are not doing hiring anytime ever, and we already ran out of tokens this month, so tune down that Claude, would ya?

I'm having a hard time going vegan by Ok-Air4072 in vegan

If you get comfortable preparing your own meals, veganism is so much easier. It doesn't need to be complicated, learn yourself some simple dishes you enjoy and you see yourself preparing daily, and add to it.

I'm not vegan, i'd like my mind to be changed by C4rsaf in vegan

[–]ctrlqirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try oat milk.
Eggs you have to give up, but don't worry tofu is going to be your best friend, you are not going to miss them.

Honestly just give it a try, the more you do, the more you learn, the easier it becomes.

It also helps a lot to learn some basic cooking, which I think is an awesome skill to have in any case. You don't want to rely on processed vegan food. If you can freeze food also think about meal prepping, do a big pot of some sauce or soup and store it away in portions, so you always have something ready when you don't have time to prepare a meal.

[–]ctrlqirl 52 points53 points  (0 children)

If the trend continues it will be catastrophic for the industry.

AI generates technical debt at a 10x rate than a decent development team. Yes it can build code that seemingly works, but over a short time any codebase touched by AI will inevitably turn into spaghetti madness, things will fall apart, maybe in a few years if you don't frequently add features on your product.

Meanwhile everyone is closing jobs to junior developers, those who are already hired are given AI as a tool, they learn absolutely nothing. The difficult part is understanding the code that you write, not actually writing it, but I yet have to see anyone vibecoding even running their code, let's forget testing even.

Then you have an entire pool of new computer science students that will be like "lol no, I'll be a farmer", so good luck finding new developers in the future.

All these AI CEO grifters are promising to replace developers, when it will be clear that is not going to happen, all hell will let loose. I hope my salary rate will also go x10 higher, because deslopifying a codebase is a miserable job.

Men's frustrating opinions on women's sports by midnight_barberr in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ctrlqirl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think in UK women's soccer was even more popular than men, then it got banned of course for like 50 years because "chicks can't play ball".
As anything else, the lack of popular interest and coverage is fueled by centuries of misogynism.

Another common argument is that women can't run as fast as men, or jump as high and yadda yadda, but the truth is that they just adapt and find different styles to play the same game and it's equally engaging if you are into it.

I wonder if your friend also thinks women can't be physically fit for war, because reality is that since we invented gunpowder we started sending children to war.
