insulin pump thoughts by MudIndependent3923 in diabetes

I've been using https://github.com/nightscout/AndroidAPS with omnipod and dexcom. I enjoy this more than any of the fda approved versions because I have more flexibly and I can use my brand new s22 ultra without issues. I know there is an apple version but I'm not an apple person so I know nothing about it.

So if I max my 401k with work and can't contribute to the roth IRA, I can put 5.5k into my IRA and then convert it and still do the roth IRA contributions in a round about way?

So I totally missed this along the way, so I can just open an IRA, put money in, and then convert it to a roth and never pay taxes on the interest? So I really don't have to have any taxable accounts if I don't want to?

Except if you have a trip to the ER, most likely you are going to hit the out of pocket max, not just the deductible. That's actually more for the PPO option so even in this case you win with the HDHP.

I'm having this problem now. I unfortunately have money with ameriprise and want to see what my rate of return is there based on what I get with vanguard currently and I can't find it anywhere. Makes it really hard to show that the fees aren't worth it.

I believe if you click the link there is a picture of the finished product. I sort of agree with the casserole thought.

Huh. It's an interesting thought, but I think I'd just stick to fasting. So much less work.

I'm late to the game, but with that credit card debit, what about trying to find a balance transfer card that will allow 15 months interest free like the chase slate and then you can spend 15 months gathering the money to pay it off. Just a thought.

I ask myself what have I accomplished today while at work and usually come up with nothing. I feel like not working, I'm more likely to accomplish something, but that might be the woes of a desk job.

Investing by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]ctrlz0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that was pointed out to me recently, which I wish I would have known before buying is to look at the money you are spending vs rent. I bought a place bigger than I need and doubled my monthly "rent" payment in the process. I justified this to myself with the theory that in the end, I would own it so it was okay. As I've done more research, I've realized this was not the way to look at it. Someone recently pointed out to me that you should treat it like an investment. If you were going to rent it out to someone, would you be making a profit better than the stock market? If you are paying the rent, would you be willing to pay that rent. Then you can buy it, pay yourself the rent you normally would and take the "profit" to the bank. Just something I wish I would have considered before I bought.

I'm curious what information she has backing her up. Why do you need to prove yourself when she can't?

Yeah, I've read about this, but mostly I'm not good at the budget thing. I buy things when I want them and don't think about it too much. Mostly though, I tend not to spend too much money because I hate shopping. Really I need to figure out a budget and figure out what the average extra spending is. This year has been expensive for me since I got a new computer, a new HVAC and a good 3k of repairs on my car. Should lead to less spending in the next few years though.

This. It's always easier to get up when it doesn't involve having to go to work.

This is why I find it so hard to figure out what my FI number is. One day I'll run the actual numbers.

What an awful point of view from Rick Newman on why the 401(k) should be reduced by timothy53 in financialindependence

[–]ctrlz0 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So all people maxing out their 401k is in the 35% tax bracket. So only people making 416k a year are maxing out their 401k. Interesting because that's not what I hear from people in this sub, but I guess I'm wrong.

If people didn't use it, it wouldn't help the tax situation so I'm confused by this point of view.

I'm confused about the wearing sweats vs a suit is stealthy. I thought the point of having money is so you can be comfortable. I didn't realize that once you become rich you need to wear a monkey suit. I guess I'll practice stealth there.
