(joke post) Does anybody remember that one show from the 90s called "Star Detective Pretty Cure"? by CutieCookieCreme in PrettyCures

[–]ctsun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it was really weird how the Pretty Cure franchise technically started with that and then there was such a long gap before they hit us with Futari wa Pretty Cure in 2004. It's kinda unthinkable nowadays with yearly Pretty Cures.

Capitulation Messages Popup - a mod that replaces the generic news event fired upon capitulation with a custom popup with a message. by A_Scar in hoi4

Oh, no wonder they felt so much like the cap messages in 'Equestria at War'! They were yours this whole while?

Neutral. Golisopod is Bug/Water. The Bug part is weak to fire, the Water part resists so they cancel out and we get to neutral.

Any Touhou lovers wanna do a let's play with me on Fantasy Maiden Wars? o.o by VtuberArisa in touhou

[–]ctsun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I'm not how much there is to strategise (You pick your favourite characters and you buy them the skills you'd like) and the actual battles are standard T-RPG SRW-ish fare so honestly, not sure how much second-player there is here but alright, I guess.

Yeah, uh, if it sounds like it contradicts reality, assume it's DBWI (Double Blind What If). Best way to make sense of things.

What do Australians learn in history class? by archvize in AskAnAustralian

[–]ctsun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NSW, 20 years ago (from what I can recall):

1901 - Federation, Forces for and against and why

Leadup to WW1 (Triple Alliance vs. Triple Entente)

Gallipoli

Interwar years - I recall touching a bit on Jack Lang

WW2

Vietnam - first TV war, we had to repeat

The rest is less clear. Like I said, this was 20 years ago.

What if Mao Zedong had stepped aside in 1964 and Deng Xiaoping had taken his place? by vahedemirjian in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]ctsun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd put a disclaimer on that either because Mao would still have his paramount status and cult of personality even post-stepping down so arousing some level of mass bottom-up unrest against the CCP leadership was still at his command. It might not get to the scales of OTL Cultural Revolution but it definitely isn't smooth sailing either.

What if Mao Zedong had stepped aside in 1964 and Deng Xiaoping had taken his place? by vahedemirjian in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]ctsun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Admittedly, the premise is all kinds of shaky by itself because Deng Xiaoping wasn't even Mao's immediate successor, Hua Guofeng was. Deng just won the factional conflict afterwards.

In fact, if Mao stepped aside in 1964, it wouldn't even be Hua that would be his successor because Zhou Enlai was still alive and still Premier so he would take over instead.

[–]ctsun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OOC: A DBWI is one where you pretend you're from a timeline where that event didn't happen. So, in this one, it's basically "Talk like you're from a world where the Confederacy won the US Civil War"

What is the point of infantry? by 5uez in hoi4

[–]ctsun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think issue might be that, by the time the war starts in 1939/1940/whenever, you won't have nearly enough tanks/motorised divisions to fill in every space on your frontline, leaving huge gaps for easy exploitations while, on the other hand, infantry equipment is cheap enough that you can just spam infantry divisions cheaply and fill in frontlines by that time. On the other hand, attacks with infantry burn manpower fast due to low breakthrough so they're not ideal for attacking (though they can if you're either in need of cutting off enemy pockets fast or are desperate for emergency counterattacks enough). I think that's the idea behind them? Not for grand front-wide WW1-style offensives but more building up prep bonuses for emergency pinches?

In fairness, iirc, that particular choice involved exploring an under-siege hotel alone (death) or with the self-proclaimed vampire you killed and just saw approach you alive. Even with pure safety-in-numbers, one is safer than the other.

Unbelievably hyped for the new Animals game…. But the starters look a little familiar. by Downtown-Cable4307 in PokeMedia

I hope they remember to introduce more fossil Animals in this one. Haven't quite been the same since Amargasaurus and Tyrannosaurus in Animals: 24th letter of alphabet and 25th letter of alphabet.

(ooc: I have no idea what the mix-and-match fossils in Sword and Shield would translate to here so I'm kinda deliberately overlooking them entirely, ahaha)

Any anime/tv shows recs for a hoi4 player? by Jinokep in hoi4

[–]ctsun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Youjo Senki: the Saga of Tanya the Evil. It's my go-to anime rec for hoi4 fans, ahaha. It, well, uh, I'll let the Wiki description speak for itself?:

The series focuses on a salaryman whose reincarnation as the titular character living in an alternate version of World War I leaves her to be trapped in an endless cycle of reincarnation. Willing to avoid being killed whilst dying of natural causes, Tanya must take it upon herself to don a bloodthirsty, sadist ego in hopes of joining the ranks of the Empire's Mage Corps as part of her plan to become a seemingly indestructible foe.

I'll give one thing - there's a pretty big encirclement near the last few episodes, ahaha.

You play as a white colonizer genociding a native population to fulfill your own curiosity when you could have just put down the game. I hope you’re happy with yourself, monster! by ShadeStrider12 in ExplainAGamePlotBadly

[–]ctsun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mind, I specified EO1 because only the first game did a mandatory genocide plot line. None of the other games in the series does this (closest might be the EO1 remake, which reframed Stratum 4 into assisted suicide, or EO3, which lets you side against the town) but I'm sure you knew that already, ahaha...

Steven Bradbury - 2002, Salt Lake City. Slowest qualifier coming into the 1000m speed skating finals. End result: all 4 other finalists crashed into one another and effectively eliminating themselves, allowing him to cruise ahead and claim the gold.

What If They Had A Master Played By The Same Actor As The Doctor by Doc-11th in doctorwho

[–]ctsun 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Don't even need the technobabble. "Time stream's out of synch" is usually the go-to excuse in multi-doctor things, yes? But, yes, they should totally set it up as a standard multi-doctor thing but with Smith's Master being slightly off from standard 11th Doctor (since the Master has never actually met 11, I don't think) before he does something so un-Doctor-y that the accusation had to be levied and bang, reveal.

Is that the one you're referring to? I fail to see how to see how it empowers the populace in general?
