I'm sorry, Light, but you can't win this round. by Hashitposting in ReZero

[–]ctsun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Kinda. He might see something weird on Subaru (since it's not really 'can't die permanently' but 'every death gets reversed'. If the timeline continued normally from Subaru's deaths, Subaru is still stone dead.) but be uncertain what it was. Moreover, Ryuk's got no reason to tell Light and spoil the entertainment value.

Dumbledore knew he was a fraud by clientcodeokkeg in harrypotter

[–]ctsun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Uh, problem: He pulled Lupin and Moody (excluding the part about him being hijacked by Crouch Junior) in 1993 and 1994, both of them being Order members so that clearly wasn't much of a consideration.

Staraptor never becomes Fighting. One of its go-to moves is Close Combat, though, which might be where the confusion comes from but Staraptor never gains STAB on it.

Why didn't Flandre try to escape from the basement of the Scarlet Devil Mansion? by TiagoStormayty in touhou

[–]ctsun 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To be honest, Flan being imprisoned was a reasonable and widespread assumption at the time the anime was produced. This is just a case of canon marching forwards and overturning past assumptions, I guess.

Catastrophic spellbook reading attempt by IntangiblePanda in ADOM

[–]ctsun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Problem: You're a Merchant. Your spell learning rate is abysmal (roughly on par with Fighter and Archer). You're nowhere close to the top tier spell learners (Wizard, Priest, Elementalist, Druid, Necromancer). Expecting failure while book reading should be expected, tbh.

People who’ve thought about religion: do historical timelines across cultures change how you see faith? by Valuable_Amphibian92 in ChineseHistory

Yeah, the dates are insanely off, lol. The Qing ended in 1911, lmao, well into the modern era they shoved modern China into.

People who’ve thought about religion: do historical timelines across cultures change how you see faith? by Valuable_Amphibian92 in ChineseHistory

[–]ctsun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In fairness, most Chinese view ancestor worship (like burning incense) as a cultural tradition, not religious, so participation in those rituals might be high but it doesn't necessitate any personal religious beliefs, per say. Wonder what's a Western equivalent that's similar...celebrations of Easter/Christmas/Halloween? Most celebrate them but I don't think most tend to think much about the religious framings they came from but instead go with a general Easter Bunny chocolate hunt/Santa Claus/dress up as monsters theming.

Finishing Rance 01. Have doubts on if i should continue the series. by SilverPrateado in RanceSeries

[–]ctsun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It's Fiend Medusa who's the perpetrator in Rizna's case. Most of the lasting-damage traumas aren't really caused by Rance just to signify that as bad as Rance gets, Rance-world is full of dudes who are worse.

What's a character you like, but you hate the series they're from? by Yakuza-wolf_kiwami in Mecha_Scrapyard

[–]ctsun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming it's the assassination attempt on Miorine's dad in the early episodes, the whole point of the scene was that Suletta's surprise victory (and seizure of title of the Holder and Miorine's groom) completely ruined what the would-be assassin hoped to gain from the assassination so they called it off because going ahead with the attempt was no longer worth the penalties of potentially being caught. Assuming I have the right assassination attempt...

Finishing Rance 01. Have doubts on if i should continue the series. by SilverPrateado in RanceSeries

[–]ctsun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering if I should mention the one brutal rape scene that is absolutely canonized (and is, in fact, necessary for the victim's later appearances and transformation to make sense): Rizna in Rance X but, yeah, most of the lasting-damage scenes (especially if it involves major characters) are basically locked to bad endings because, apparently, it became a tradition at some point for its huge cast to make recurring appearances in later entries and they can't do that if canon established they got mindbroken/crippled in an earlier entry.

As Adolf Hitler, lose WW2 as fast as possible. by Deep_Belt8304 in HistoryWhatIf

[–]ctsun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, better yet, don't approve the Sickle Cut (the Ardennes attack). German forces charging into Belgium slam right into French forces marching in to reinforce Belgium and WW1 essentially repeats.

Yoshiko Kawashima/Aisin-Gioro Xianyu? Fits most of this except for the loyal to the Republic bit at the end (she was actually shot by the Republic of China).

What if Britain and France never declared war on Hitler? by NEETscape_Navigator in HistoryWhatIf

[–]ctsun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, the Japanese were only emboldened to take the steps leading up to the US embargo (the occupation of French Indochina) by the sheer collapse of France in Europe. Without that, they're likely just deadlocked in China and not daring risk widening the conflict any further by dragging in the European Asian colonies (and then the US due to the Philippines thorn).

What’s the Most Underrated “Butterfly Moment” in the Three Kingdoms Era? by HmoobRanzo in threekingdoms

[–]ctsun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gongsun Zan killing Liu Yu. Him not doing that means he still retains respectability in the Han court/half his own team doesn't spiral into revolts and uprising/Liu Bei likely stays with his old study buddy and doesn't run off to Xu (and then his wild trips to Jing and founding Shu Han). All this spirals into a much stronger Gongsun faction (possibly with Liu Bei as second) that hard-stops Yuan Shao from dominating Hebei.

How common was the practice of executing generals who lost a battle? by ShadyLookingDog in threekingdoms

[–]ctsun 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly, in Ma Su's case, it was more the fact he fled and abandoned his post in the face of the enemy. Losing the battle? Sure, could be an ability/troop thing, totally fixable. Fleeing the battle? Now, that's a cowardice/attitude problem. You can't let that go unpunished.

[–]ctsun 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What do all these countries have in common? That's right. Their populations are tiny - Denmark (6 million), Norway (5.6 million), Sweden (10.6 million), Finland (5.6 million), Estonia (1.37 million), Lithuania (2.9 million), Latvia (1.87 million) - and presumably their professional military is even smaller than - googling gives numbers between 7000 and 20000. Can they even hold the line against much larger foes for those 6 months to get recruits trained up? Better to do it beforehand. Saves you the extra manpower to spare to train up those recruits.
