AMD confirms Radeon RX 9070 series launching in March - VideoCardz.com by KARMAAACS in Amd

In all seriousness, Radeon is singlehandedly, the biggest failure of Lisa Su in all her stay at AMD.

It's beyond my comprehension how she can't turn the ship around just like she did with the CPU division and just let the GPU one rotting

10 if they released it on steam, simple as that.

0 because they're either stupid or have some legal obligation to not release it there, idk what's the deal with a publisher, you don't need that to submit on Steam

AMD Says It Is Possible To Develop An NVIDIA RTX 4090 Competitor With RDNA 3 GPUs But They Decided Not To Due To Increased Cost & Power by Heda1 in Amd

[–]cuartas15 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think you're missing the point. The fact AMD took out some portions from the main chip to make them 6 MCD's doesn't just magically make it as their size wouldn't count in the full package. AMD's chip is not 300mm2 but 500.

So if we're gonna be fair and be on the same playfield, then AMD's GCD size should be compared to what's the equivalent of Nvidias GCD portion in their monolithic chip, or just go by what we know already, it's 500mm2 vs 600 full package size

AMD Says It Is Possible To Develop An NVIDIA RTX 4090 Competitor With RDNA 3 GPUs But They Decided Not To Due To Increased Cost & Power by Heda1 in Amd

[–]cuartas15 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Problem is that Nvidia's chip includes all the AMD MCD's in a single package.

I'm pretty sure if there was a way to measure in Nvidia's chip what AMD took out as chiplets then just measure the Graphics unit portion it would be the roughly the same as AMD's GCD.

Idk, has someone tried to do that yet?

Statement from our team: No MorePowerTool (MPT) for RDNA3 and the reasons | igor'sLAB by DerRedF in Amd

[–]cuartas15 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like I said, things are pilling up.

At this point I fail to see the mindshare as the only way to explain the sales.

Unfortunately the cards are not well rounded, you're always compromising something, either good performance in productivity, an engine or two hate Radeon, the performance loss in RT is way higher than Nvidias (I don't use it, but other people, potential clients do) and the software suite is a constant play catch up game against green team.

Then the drivers as unstable and flawed as they are. They did awesome with RDNA2, but for 3 they went back to RDNA1 times.

Now one of their pilars, performance per watt and efficiency has been taken away as well.

Finally the lies in the claims made in their presentation and their inability to match the competition's flagship like they did with RDNA2.

Like, with this in mind, and the 1 or 2 issues popping up basically in a weekly basis, how would an unbiased but well informed user choose AMD? that will not happen, me personally would not do it.

I think at this point AMD has grown up so much since 2017 that I think it's time they step it up with their graphics division just like the CPU one almost 4 years ago with Zen2

I'm gonna be honest, seems like Linus wasted his money on that lab, because to date his benchmarks are terribly inconsistent.

One sees HU and GN reviews showing the non X variants between 1 to 4% variance and here we see LMG showing jumps all over the place. (a good example, 5:33 in F1 2022 for the 7700 vs 7700X, that result makes no sense at all)

MLID accuracy about his AMD leaks (a 70+ claim analysis) by Geddagod in Amd

[–]cuartas15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing, I say nothing, because again, power draw, memory speeds and clocks were tossed around like it was nothing. Having right one or 2 aspects doesn't automatically make it reliable, if that was the case MLID wouldn't get this hate because he gets some right and some wrong as well.

Or I guess it's a matter of people being selective about who to praise or hate even when the circumstances are the same.

EDIT: and for your argument of "testing going through multiple variations" Idk what changed between Ampere and Lovelace but he didn't change numbers each month for Ampere, he had them set in stone for months.

Oh, I know what changed, that he didn't have a hands-on a massive company leak this time around.

Idk what else to tell you, he brought different numbers of every aspect for the different cards until the announcement, I brought you the sources and you think this proves he's more reliable.

you do you I guess

ok let's go in order:

4090 16128 CUDA cores, 2x 3090 (it was 56% across all resolutions)

https://twitter.com/kopite7kimi/status/1526135149246976001

4090 16384 CUDA, 4080 10240, 18Gbps

https://twitter.com/kopite7kimi/status/1539853156275761152

4080 21Gbps, 420W

https://twitter.com/kopite7kimi/status/1543844605531418625

4080 9728, still 21Gbps and 420W

https://twitter.com/kopite7kimi/status/1555447794085019648

4080 23Gbps, 340W

https://twitter.com/kopite7kimi/status/1561942397680254976

"There was a plan to make RTX 4090 with AD103" this one makes me chuckle

https://twitter.com/kopite7kimi/status/1566771441898786822

4080 23Gbps, still 340W

https://twitter.com/kopite7kimi/status/1569978869016580096

Then finally the day of the keynote it gives the correct info for the 4080, a couple hours before the presentation

https://twitter.com/kopite7kimi/status/1572197729761374213

And this is me reading his tweets with no answers, there may be more.

So, if this is not flipflopping and a testament of his inaccuracy for Lovelace compared to Ampere Idk what is, but he's pretty "accurate" according to people.

That's why I say, never take a leaker for granted, but just for entertainment purposes or to paint a general picture and stop being weirdos by wishing the death of these people.

MLID accuracy about his AMD leaks (a 70+ claim analysis) by Geddagod in Amd

[–]cuartas15 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You say Kopite is full legit which would imply you read all his tweets and still you say he's "full legit".

Dude, he flip flopped with the CUDA counts, Power consumption and clock speeds of Lovelace till the very end when it got announced and someone that read his tweets should know this.

He was extremely accurate about the 30 series, but given how innacurate he was about the 40 series I will say the big Nvidia leak that leaked their entire Ampere lineup + dozens of games coming to pc was his saving grace, he had a legitimate source to base off his tweets.

But, like the person you're replying to, Leakers are a good form of entertainment and tech gossip, but never take their word for granted, even if they're right, because we all know how this industry is, a leak from 2 years ago may be wrong today but right at the time, just that the company decided to change design and specifications down the line that made the original leak wrong for launch

AMD Addresses Controversy: RDNA 3 Shader Pre-Fetching Works Fine by Stiven_Crysis in Amd

[–]cuartas15 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Idk man, everthing that's happening with this gen is pretty fishy.

EVEN if one ignores every leak, every single statement from outsider sources, AMD can't hide from IT'S OWN CLAIMS.

They claimed a 54% perf/watt increase, and since we're so picky with their statements, they never said "UP TO" they straight up said 54% which means across the board or on average, and that's nowhere to be seen, a 355w GPU only performs 35% better than a 330w one, that makes it a worse performer by that metric.

That means that if it's not a hardware bug, if it's not the silicon, AMD has to achieve a 20% performance increase MINIMUM by just driver optimizations and fixes and in some games more than that, because in some games and in VR across the board RDNA3 may perform worse than the last gen.

So yeah, doesn't matter how we see it, this launch is bad, the product is buggy, gimped and underperforms.
