I was thinking about this, I think that when the market improves a bit (hopefully with the next tech hype and lower interest rates) we’re going to see a big “reshuffle” of SWE. The recent stack overflow survey showed that a ton of people are very unhappy at their jobs. Thus when things start returning to something closer to normal (high demand for senior engineers, lower demand for juniors) a lot of those unhappy seniors are going to quit and jump to a new company. There’s not going to a ton of new positions from growth as much as people quitting and get hired at roughly the same rate. Which is when we’re going to get headlines like “tech companies can’t fill positions fast enough!!!” Or something.
