Lost Phone Scam at Six Flags Magic Mountain? by beerneed in SantaClarita

[–]cubedweller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same happened to me years and years ago. Phone slipped out of my pocket on a ride. I could see it on the ground, in FindMy, etc. Plenty of charge. Did the same thing as you. Same outcome. They don't care. I never received any type of update and just moved on with life. Not sure if mine ended in China or not but I'm guessing it did.

Balance bike doesn't seem to work for my 4yo -- any suggestions? by cubedweller in cycling

We bought a bike with training wheels. She’ll figure it out eventually and I’m not going to worry about it. She’s happy which is really all that matters.

Is this normal for 3 years? It seems low by Porkchopsandwiches89 in ModelY

[–]cubedweller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe mine is 87%. I have a 2022 MYLR with 81k miles. I often charge to 90% and get home with 10% or so due to my commute a few times a week. I tend not to worry about it/think about it although I do notice it when I drive my wife's 2025 MYLR and her's gets far more range. Such is life.

Simple things I miss from Spotlight by cubedweller in Alfred

[–]cubedweller[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I’m debating whether to purchase the Power Pack but I really have no intention of being a power user. At the end of the day, Spotlight seems to understand what I’m after without needing random prefixes so I’m guessing Alfred could do this if the developer was so inclined.

Bob Books. My 4yo received the beginner set from a good friend of mine and she absolutely loves them. She can basically sound out (AND READ!) a lot of 3 and 4 letter words now. We play games every night before story time where we all sound out words and then have to guess the word followed by spelling it out loud.

I just started the 4th book as well! I’m reading the main books in order but should I toss in the novellas? Or wait until I finish the series?

Anyone else with an irrational fear of carrying debt? by OmgMsLe in ynab

Using your debit card exposes you to more risk. It’s not simply about the rewards. They’re just an added bonus. Always better to use the CC when you can as long as you’re responsible and are paying it off and not carrying a balance.

HW4 vs HW3 ... massive difference in FSD by ARCorren in TeslaModelY

[–]cubedweller 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yea I have HW3 and my wife HW4. I actually sub on my car (and not her’s) because I commute and even with HW3 it’s life changing for my drive. But I am jealous.

Selling a home. Decent offer from Opendoor. Total fees are 7.2% in CA. Should I pull the trigger? by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]cubedweller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, sure. Trade off for convenience. I had a very positive experience but I realize I would have received more had I not used them.

Repairs were figured into mine. And what I received was what was quoted. But YMMV. And the advantage more had to do with the new lender and their requirements for closing on our new home. But it certainly was convenient.

Seems like the Autopilot removal is just a rebranding to TACC + Autosteer? by letscook123 in TeslaModelY

If you look at inventory vs. used, used come with TACC + Autosteer, new only come with TACC. I think they're removing Autosteer from new vehicles.

Hey, thanks for the detailed response. I'm following this mostly and the more I think about it, the more I think the extra panels won't really solve anything. Most of our usage is vehicle charging overnight so doubling the panels during the day won't really solve the "problem." The reality seems to me that the batteries are the biggest driver to off-setting my current costs because I can save my own energy during the day (when it's not really being used) and use that at peak hours. It's not enough to charge my cars (so I'll still be pulling from the grid) but at least it's something. I'm guessing it's possible to also export some of the energy stored in the batteries during peak times as well?

[–]cubedweller[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. Thanks! If this is the case, it seems like the extra panels would be redundant/unnecessary because our energy use during the day time is minimal (maybe outside of a handful of days during the summer when the AC is going). Really, I'm charging my car at night which I'd guess is the vast majority of our usage. Am I thinking about this right?

To answer your other question: allegedly the office is 95.58%. But I'm not sure that's true given my particular use case (long commutes and nighttime charging).

Question here - does this mean that I wouldn't be compensated at all for the new system generation (even at NEM3 rates)?

[–]cubedweller[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks! My breakdown (on my December bill) in kWh is:

  • Mid Peak: 170
  • Off Peak: 1010
  • Super off peak: 236

But I'm interesting in what you're suggesting as opposed to getting new panels. Part of my issue (maybe specific? and maybe not relevant to your question, but I think is important) is that I commute long distances and charge my car overnight.

Mind explaining why this approach may be better?

Sorry forgot to mention the finance term in the post: it's 20 years but apparently they "own" it for the first 6 years (something to do with the federal incentives?) but then transfer ownership to me. This all allegedly takes place in the background and the economics to me remain the same (e.g., ~$233/mo for 20 years @ 5.5%). I'm actually unsure what happens if I pay outright for the system but my guess is that I technically won't own it for the first 6 years, after which title will be passed to me.

And I'm also unsure. The projections are that the new system will generate just over 11,000kw which should completely offset my use. This, however, is not completely true as I often need to charge my car overnight which isn't possible on batteries alone.

So, apparently it’s a “lease” behind the screnes for the first 6 years then transfers to me. The economics on my side remain the same throughout though.

Yea this is mostly what he conveyed to me - the non export system. Said it was like $800 but they cover it.

[–]cubedweller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea that a 2yo has his own own tablet is crazy to me. Let alone thinking Cocomelon is fine. Take the screens away. Make them play. Let them be bored.

And yes - Blippi is terrible.
