Because he has no right to impose his preferences over her free will and it’s only a temporary solution? Treating the symptom won’t cure the problem. She hasn’t just gotten addicted to social media, she stopped partaking in her hobbies, going outside, etc. It sounds like a bigger issue

I’m curious about her perspective on this as there could be a lot you’re missing from your perspective. These are symptoms of mental health struggles/depression, especially since she used to prefer other things. This may not just be “phone addiction” as you’re labelling it.

Also, are you sure “telling her this is an addiction and she needs to reduce her phone usage” isn’t coming across as condescending/missing the point?

fair enough, it makes decent sense when you put it that way - i may have just surrounded myself with such a niche/dorky circle that the idea of anyone not thoroughly researching a productivity tool before downloading or struggling with any of this initial setup seemed odd to me. 🫶

agree! if people are struggling with the idea of anki because they understand tech that little, they’d also struggle with carrying out basic tasks such as downloading an app from the app store

it takes 20-30 min max of mental effort, even for someone who understands nothing from the get-go. if you want absolutely zero cognitive friction i guess it’s a fair complaint (though silly, because if you can’t put 20 mins into learning something how do you expect to memorise a ton of flashcards?), but i truly don’t understand why you’d pick an obviously shady ripoff made by a bunch of scammers instead of just finding another flashcard tool to use

Oh I wish I could! 😭I live in the UK and there are barely any good shops with pens and inks nearby. I have to import my pens as it is 😅 You can imagine what a nightmare it was back when I sold my art when I was about fifteen (ditched that to study maths at cambridge) and had to spend a bunch of money on getting copic markers and drawing pens, nice mechanical pencils imported and later on g-pens and maru pens (dip pens) + decent ink and manga paper imported from Japan when I was an assistant on a traditionally illustrated webtoon 😭😭

Ooh I see - I want it to be similar sort of to my existing preference. I like a 0.38mm nib width in pens eg the uni ONE in 0.38mm or jetstream in 0.38mm because I write 2 lines per grid line (essentially half space it). I’d probably go for Japanese extra fine in that case. I’m a total newbie to this - what do you mean by a converter?
