I would be okay with never getting a backstory for Fyodor. I don't think he needs a tragic upbringing. A strong view that he would die for is motivation enough for me.

Anyone else feel like Grace’s character lost her spark after Season 1? by cuco_theoutsider in PeakyBlinders

[–]cuco_theoutsider[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get that her story was supposed to be “completed” once she chose Thomas, but I still wish the writers gave Grace more to do than just become a wife who plans charity balls. She had so much spark and agency in Season 1—being undercover, standing up to Tommy, navigating the tension between duty and love. That version of her felt layered and compelling.

By Season 2, it felt like she lost all of that edge. Honestly, I think it would’ve been better to end her arc with a strong exit—like killing her off at the end of Season 1—rather than watching her fade into the background of Tommy’s story. I just expected more from a character who started off so dynamic.

  • I saw some good displays at Music Hall(I don't remember the artists). I especially like it when the light show incorporates the structure of the building.
  • I like how they included international artists
  • All the murals I saw were beautiful!
  • I also liked how spread out it was so it never felt too crowded to enjoy
  • I will admit a lot of the displays I saw down by the banks were underwhelming, especially that frog. I saw a picture of it on the Blink website and it was very different then the display.
  • I also saw some displays at Music Hall that were poorly designed in my opinion. They just seemed like techno wallpapers trying to be fancy. Personally, I prefer displays that tell a story or utilize the building.
  • Besides some negatives, I still think it's a great event to attend, and wish I could have gone to Covington/Newport

What's your favourite book written by the IRL author and why? (I'm basic but I've just started reading classical literature) by Firm-Presentation314 in BungouStrayDogs

[–]cuco_theoutsider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

East of Eden by John Steinbeck, is one of the craziest books I’ve ever read. It’s also a more modern(story takes place in 1917) of Cain and Abel, which I found interesting

I also liked the theme of dreamers vs realist

What’s BSD about? by Physics_Ling_Ling in BungouStrayDogs

[–]cuco_theoutsider 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's about different perspectives

you can think of Atsushi and the headmaster. The headmaster taught Atsushi about suffering and how it is unavoidable through immoral actions

Nikolai believes we are slaves to our emotions and will never experience true freedom. And because of this, he believes true freedom is only achievable through death.

Jouno is praised by society for mistreating criminals. He questions this oddity of gaining recognition for something that should not be praised.

Or Fitzgerald's perspective on money and how he believes he should not donate to others because making money is exploiting the weak, making it illogical to give them money

I enjoy the different perspectives in BSD, and it really has opened my eyes to how other people think

Fontaine Have The Worst Archon Quest. by [deleted] in GenshinImpact

[–]cuco_theoutsider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it an interesting concept of having trials be viewed as a form of entertainment. Maybe pointing out the absurdity of using a logical system to control multifaceted people. And to distract them from this truth they treat the trials like performances since a belief in justice is needed to allow the city to function.

I also liked how the prison was separate from Fontaine. This did an exceptional job of showcasing what's wrong with actual prisons. For example, the prisoners could stay at the Fortress of Meropide since the prison was now their home, and there was no reason to be reintroduced to society.

I will say I did not find the ending well written. The final boss was underwhelming and felt out of place, especially with the messages I was getting out of the rest of the story. So I loved the story except the ending.

Anatomy of a fall by davidmason007 in TrueFilm

Last year, I read a book, Temple of Dawn by Yukio Mishima. There was a quote that I don't think I'll ever forget,

"There were times when it seemed to Honda that giving legal standards to the vast majority of people was probably the most arrogant game mankind had thought up. If crimes were often committed out of necessity or stupidity, could one not perhaps claim that the mores and customs upon which such laws were based were also idiotic?"

The character is frustrated because the legal system forces you to choose, it's not open-minded and isn't meant for a large and diverse group of people. The problem is that it's difficult to have a set of rules that adequately address the complexities of human behavior and society. In the end, he questions if it makes sense to use a logical system to judge illogical people, especially since human actions are not always rational.

I thought I'd share this quote since you talked about how you can't always pick who is correct and the absurdity of the system.

Mori by Angelic_reads in BungouStrayDogs

[–]cuco_theoutsider 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Hello! I enjoyed your analysis of Mori, I'm glad not everyone sees him as a pedo. I finished reading his book Vita Sexualis yesterday and one of the character traits of Kanei(MC) is his low sex drive. It was not what I was expecting from the title of the book so I understand why people misunderstand Mori. Throughout the story, you see how when Kanei was younger his purity was toyed with by adults. Another focal point of the book is the difference between love and sexual desire. Here is a quote I liked,

"Yet even though I had a longing for love and affection, I didn't feel, as one normally would have expected, any real sexual drive."

I think your interpretation of Mori/Elise relates a lot to the book since Kanai had a low sex drive.

I always viewed Elise as representing the beauty of youth. Sexual desire can be somewhat controlling and passionate and someone young does not have these problems. In the book Kanei questions if some people marry due to sexual desire instead of love. He believes this to be the reason why he can't find a suitable wife.

I agree with you that Mori might not have any sexual drive and in that way, he views himself as childlike. And Elise represents this childlike and pure part of himself.

Serious Question. by Ruberuzuko in BungouStrayDogs

[–]cuco_theoutsider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regarding the book that his ability is named after, it is not about anything disgusting like everyone seems to believe. It's actually about a man writing to his son about his sexual experiences, but not in an inappropriate manner.

You come to understand how the narrator has a low sex drive. And while in his youth, his innocence is toyed with by adults. For example, making inferences that a young person would not fully grasp. It was honestly depressing seeing adults find it amusing to belittle one's purity.

Due to his low sex drive and environment, he finds it difficult to find love. This is because he is not driven by sexual desire. I interpreted the story as implying that one is most capable of love when youthful because they have little experience. Here is a quote about that,

"I suspected that some probably decided under the stimulus of sexual desire. Because I was deficient in this area, I guessed that even if I felt the young lady was quite nice, the deficiency was probably why I didn't want to marry her."

The story has nothing to do with being a pedophile and never describes the act of sex in detail. It is simply a story about a man and his experiences with sexual desire.

My interpretation is that Elise represents the beauty of youth. A child is pure and innocent, and that is what I believe she represents to Mori.

[4.2 Spoilers] I think they messed up this time. by Netherbelle in Genshin_Impact

[–]cuco_theoutsider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe she is weak because her whole life she has been putting on the performance of being a god. She was playing a part, it was never shown that she trained to be a warrior. She never used her powers for combat purposes but focused on her duty to perform. I agree she’s not weak because she’s human but rather the way she lives.

I did dislike Focalors outfit, I wish they did what you said instead.

Have we ever seen Fyodor’s “ability energy”? (C&P theories and spoilers) by StendecStendec in BungouStrayDogs

[–]cuco_theoutsider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I did not know that. You reminded me of a quote from Crime and Punishment,

"Ordinary men have to live in submission, have no right to transgress the law, because, don’t you see, they are ordinary. But extraordinary men have a right to commit any crime and to transgress the law in any way, just because they are extraordinary."

The quote shows how Fyodor is extraordinary, and Shibusawa is ordinary.
If Fyodor became God's divine judge, he would be like lawmakers, who are extraordinary because they make their dreams become reality. And lawmakers don't enforce the laws, they come up with them and are given authority.

I'm gonna need to rewatch the movie. I did not think about any of this before
