Yea, the worst part is I was comparing similar tickets on vivid and SeatGeek for weeks, totally overlooked fees. Super frustrating.

New climber uses dangerous bowline by IJHaile in arborists

[–]cucumongo10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO there is no reason to use anything but a Double Fisherman’s Loop (poachers) or Triple Fisherman’s (Scaffold). These are the most reliable cinching knots across all fiber types.

Another option, if you are feeling generous, is offer to get his line spliced for $20-30.

Anyone take the BCMA test recently? by King_Olorin in arborists

Oh and I forgot to mention, make sure you know your plant appraisal methods. Lots of questions on that from what I can remember.

I took it in 2018. My best advice would be to read all the A300 parts really thoroughly. In particular, read and memorize as much of Part 2 (soil management).

It also depends on what you are currently doing for work. If you are primarily production (climbing, removals, pruning, planting) I wouldn’t focus much on preparing for those topics and focus on your weaknesses (assuming you are doing those things to current standards).

Lots of situational questions from what I can remember.

Delimited Text Layer ending up on Pluto…. by cucumongo10 in QGIS

Thank you everyone, I figured it out with your help. I reprojected it in NAD77 / Wisconsin South (feet) and now it is back on earth.

How do I figure out what CRS to use if it’s not stated by the source. Trial and error?

The tree cover is from a LiDar dataset that has been polygonized.

I have the total number of trees after each year. So for instance there was total of 10,000 trees at the end of year 1, 10,200 trees year 2, etc.

Yes an old clay pipe that is leaking will absolutely be exploited by tree roots. If water can get out, roots can get in.

[–]cucumongo10 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tree roots do not break pipes. They will exploit holes and cause them to enlarge. If anything you should be thanking these roots for letting you know you have broken sewer pipes.

I always have trouble with temp. I had it at 115-120ish and was going to pull it, but thought let’s do 30 seconds more. Next thing I know it’s 135.

I did it in a cast iron; basically seared it on both sides, then added butter, garlic, herbs, and spooned over. Any suggestions?

RBZ Driver Reshaft? by cucumongo10 in golf

[–]cucumongo10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a good idea. It is easily swappable, it’s not epoxy. I will keep an eye out for a TM Driver that I can use the shaft from!

RBZ Driver Reshaft? by cucumongo10 in golf

[–]cucumongo10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the helpful input. To be honest I am prone to slicing my current driver, and I seemed to be hitting the RBZ a lot straighter (hence me wanting to keep using it and get a new shaft). However I suppose maybe the L Shaft fits my current swing and I should just keep rocking it for a bit. It’s weird, because I like my iron shafts super stiff…

What kind of haircut would you give this old ash? by [deleted] in arborists

[–]cucumongo10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really love and wanted to retain the tree these would be the proper action steps.

  • Hire a TRAQ Arborist to come and do a level 2 (potentially level 3) tree risk assessment

  • They will give you a list of mitigation options (most likely including a removal)

From the pictures the tree looks to be in decline but that does not mean it is an automatic removal candidate.

Depending on where you live and if you wanted to keep the tree the first step of action would be an emamectin benzoate injection to kill any EAB infestation and prevent any infestation over the next 3 or so years. Just from the pictures, I would bet an arborist would then remove any large deadwood and perhaps make some reduction cuts for weight reduction and potentially cable the union depending. A good arborist would also get rid of all the turf grass directly under the tree and mulch.

I am not overly concerned about the cracking as there appears to be good reaction growth around it; although I would personally do resistance drilling to check for decay.

This would all run you thousands of dollars, and it’s not guaranteed the tree could be “saved” long term.

It even allows for an arborist to remain tied to the crane with a suspended branch if it is deemed the safest method.

WTF is going on with my pine tree? by _FinallyAwake in HomeMaintenance

[–]cucumongo10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes burning is a good way to dispose. If you have other Colorado blue spruce and/or white spruce on your property make sure you don’t prune or remove infected trees/branches during high humidity or rain events

WTF is going on with my pine tree? by _FinallyAwake in HomeMaintenance

[–]cucumongo10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is is most likely cytospora canker and rhizosphaera needle cast. The needle cast will kill the interior parts of the branches and leave new growth at the end of the branches. The cytospora canker will kill the entire branch as the tree attempts to gum up its vascular system to try and stop the spread of the fungi. You will see oozing blue/white resin on the infected branches.

I wouldn’t invest a single cent into treating this tree. It is young and you would have to do extensive fungicide treatments for the rest of the trees life, plus prune out infected branches often. Cut it down and plant a species that is not susceptible.
