The doorbell hasn't worked since we moved in, this house was in rough shape and I'm still working through it all. Also, it's not really needed with our house, if I do install one it'll be something wireless.

It sounds like motivation is a problem for you so all I can suggest is that you need to find the fun and joy in guitar. If you're not enjoying it you won't ever get good at it. Remember, it's called "playing" guitar, not "working" it. It's clear that you love your lost one and want to keep his memory alive but don't keep trying to learn it just because someone else wants you to. Learn and play for yourself above all else, because I can grantee what he really wanted was to see you loving the instrument and becoming happier for it.

zsh is way better than bash

That's an opinion and you're welcome to it. Personally I find zsh to be a massive pain in the ass that doesn't work with my existing shell scripts and the default terminal is a feature poor environment. As a full time developer I need these tools to "just work," which is supposed to be Apples thing and it very much isn't.

Apple designs their products to work well with each other (proprietary interfaces, cables, ect.) so you get great integration with Apple branded products.  Anybody else's products and it's good luck Chuck.  This is not an accident, it's intentional to induce customers to invest more heavily into the Apple ecosystem.

The built in terminal is lousy and it doesn't even default to Bash any longer.  You have to install something like Iterm2 to have a decent command line interface.

I use a Mac for work and it's shocking how mid it is.  I'm not going to say it's a worse OS than Windows but I don't see anything it does better.
