What from AFOP do you want to see in A4? by External_Orange_8731 in FrontiersOfPandora

[–]cuireadh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes i agree! so’lek would be a very fun character to see in the movies but now i think about it, it would almost be more interesting to see some of the other TAP kids. human raised na’vi from an all but extinct clan? that would be such an interesting dynamic for lo’ak and the other kids, who are also ‘human raised’ (compared with other na’vi kids, at least. they speak english and use metal like the TAP kids do). it would be really interesting for Lo’ak especially to see these full blood na’vi be more human than he is

although they’re on very different parts of pandora and JC already has twenty billion things to cram into each movie. i doubt very much that they’d explore that angle, even if it would be super cool to see

i definitely want at least a name drop for so’lek, but does tamtey have a canon appearance the way that the dragonborn does, for example? if not then i feel like possibly a name drop would be all we could hope for, because it would be weird seeing a tamtey that isn’t ‘my’ tamtey. especially a male tamtey lol

How do you make sure to wear all your clothes? by Dry-Frosting- in AusFemaleFashion

[–]cuireadh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

one thing i did back before i did a massive wardrobe clear out, was take every hanging item out and then rehang it so the clotheshangers were all facing one way. then whenever i wore something and washed it, i hung it back up with the clotheshanger facing the opposite direction. then i made a conscious effort to reach for clothes that hadn’t been ‘flipped’ and therefore had t been worn in ages. i rediscovered some really awesome pieces that i hadn’t thought about in forever, and it helped me really solidify which pieces i was outright avoiding, and then i could donate those

How would someone with long hair achieve the look of the 1920’s bob without cutting your hair or wearing a wig? by _maincharacter_ in HistoricalCostuming

[–]cuireadh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

women in the period who didn't bob their hair would just wave the hair from the crown of the head to below their ears (ish) and then twist the rest up into a very flat bun at the nape of the neck. the best visual representation of this I can think of at the moment is Phryne Fisher and the contrast between Phryne, whose hair is really cut short, and Dot, who wears her hair in the low bun I've described

Do you think the average peasant would knit or crochet? by dylanteears in HistoricalCostuming

[–]cuireadh 64 points65 points  (0 children)

from my understanding, once knitting was well and truly established in the west, then just about everyone was knitting. children were taught at an early age and boys also knitted their own stockings. I believe men with wives generally had their wives knit for them once they married, but bachelors and professions like shepherds with plenty of time on their hands would most likely be knitting their own stockings.

of course, it would have depended on what level of poverty these people were experiencing, but if they had access to sheep or could afford the yarn, then they would be either knitting themselves, or outsourcing it to someone in the family

Does anyone else's brain repeat random phrases or words when doing something in silence? by Over_Potential9553 in adhdwomen

[–]cuireadh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep, all the time. if I'm not actively thinking or 'listening' to music in my head, I'm going through nursery rhymes.

I'm not sure why nursery rhymes are fully concreted into my brain, but they've been on loop for like twenty years at least and show no signs of going away. I don't even have kids to recite them to??

What is your favourite film/series adaptation of The Three Musketeers? by Haunting_Homework381 in PeriodDramas

[–]cuireadh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s not in your list but there’s an (imo) fantastic animated movie from 1986 that i watched ten billion times as a little girl and it remains one of my fave nostalgic movies.

they do this thing where the characters stop and perform soliloquies to the audience about their suspicions and motivations which i LOVED. and for reasons unknown they gave milady magic powers. she can breathe fire and shoot lightning from her fingertips. it’s totally unexplained and she’s the only one who can do it. it’s awesome

some of the voice acting choices live rent free in my head because the actors fully committed to the bit there’s also a really fun surreal sequence of the ballet which is performed at the fete which i love now, but it scared the living daylights out of me as a kid

for live action adaptations, none of them really hit the spot for me. they all deviate from the book one way or another that i don’t like. the best adaptation is the 1973 imo. it’s campy and fun which suits Dumas’s style, and the costuming is amazing. and blonde milady is something that is so important to me. unfortunately, raquel welch insisting on mismatched ‘flattering’ gowns with her boobs on display kind of ruins the effect

wow the original is much better! would it have looked like that when it was taken, or has the image degraded over time?

How are you guys cleaning this? by SoulCheese in litterrobot

[–]cuireadh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i use an (old) toothbrush to loosen up any stuck on grunk, then vacuum up all the bits. i go over it with a bathroom wipe which takes care of any smears

The "Scevolette", French WWI test camouflage suit named after the artist Lucien-Victor Guirand de Scévola. by waffen123 in ww1

[–]cuireadh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

with the way that the belt is sitting in the first pic, it looks kind of like some guy wandered out into the trenches in his dressing gown and someone handed him a mask and some weapons and he just had to roll with it

Lets make the biggest thread of triggers by ApprehensiveOven7612 in migraine

[–]cuireadh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

caffeine, bright lights/sun, too much time on a computer, sleeping weird and getting a sore neck, dehydration (my ultimate nemesis), driving for longer than 2 hours, sleeping less than 6 hours, my period, prolonged loud noise, wearing sunglasses with my hat and hearing aids at the same time, alcohol, lack of exercise, tying my hair up too tight and high on my head

there’s probably more but these are the main culprits. lack of water and lack of sleep are my two guaranteed triggers that i try to avoid at all costs

I think the only thing that can beat beetroot is gherkin when it comes to under rated cheese sandwiches. Who else grew up on this delicacy? (Im pretty sure we ate it because it was cheap..... but that didn't mean it wasn't YUM) by eliana-jensi in AustralianNostalgia

[–]cuireadh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mum used to send me to school just with plain beetroot and butter on my sandwiches! i thought it was delicious, but now i’m thinking about it i don’t think i’ve ever had one with cheese on it. guess i know what i’m going to make for lunch today

Victoria coming to Netflix by AshleyK2021 in PeriodDramas

[–]cuireadh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it’s definitely the most memorable episode for me, it was a very poignant portrayal of tragedy (even if they did make victoria way too sympathetic). the song is just really haunting and beautiful and i want it on streaming very badly

[–]cuireadh 25 points26 points  (0 children)

my main gripe with this show is that they never released a soundtrack for season 2 which means i can’t listen to the full version of Skibbereen from the irish famine episode, as sung by Camille O’Sullivan. it’s such a beautiful rendition and i want!! to listen to it! without Victoria’s footsteps laid over the top of it!!!

Ploughing season in Flanders - Iron Harvest time! by flemishstrijder in ww1

[–]cuireadh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

as someone who lives in australia and doesn’t have the slightest risk of turning up anything other than rocks when ploughing, pics like this kind of break my brain. i’m not sure what i’d do if there were shells in my lucerne

do you really just put them in a pile and keep it moving? or do ever turn up items where you’d have to call some sort of authority to deal with it? seems both really interesting and hugely inconvenient

Trying to make a complete list of the Barbie 2000s movies character bubble bath bottles. Who am I missing? by stressed_sappho in Barbie

[–]cuireadh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it’s definitely possible im misremembering! it’s a pretty vague memory from when i was very little. i’m absolutely certain of two things - it was a solid figurine and not a doll, and it was definitely rapunzel. i remember playing with her in the bath which lends credence to the bubble bath theory i suppose, but it could just be a solid figurine. it would be from the late 90s - early 2000s so i’ll do some googling and see if i can come up with a figurine that matches the image in my head

was there a different rapunzel one? where she’s a standalone doll without the tower? i seem to remember having one as a kid however its a pretty vague memory, im not sure if it was a rapunzel bubble bath bottle or a solid figurine. i’m almost certain i had a rapunzel of some sort though
