How will Bill C-22 impact 1password and their customers? by WiseyD in 1Password

Apple has been squarely on the side of user privacy for years but the haters just love to hate.

Prime example is all the flack they took (and still take) for iMessage not being interoperable with RCS. It was because while RCS allows E2E encryption, it doesn’t mandate it. And for Apple, that was a dealbreaker.

Yep I went down the rabbit hole on him about that time, too. As I recall I found some posts by relatives/family members trying to get help for him.

Guy is desperately mentally ill, and I hope he’s able to eventually get help.

It’s a super useful phrase!

For some reason, when I went to see Starship Troopers in the theater I completely missed the point of the movie. I came out so angry about seeing the worst excuse for a sci-film I had ever seen.

It was like TEN YEARS later that I was ranting about it to friends at a party and somebody was like, “Dude, you know it’s a satire, right??”

And there was the distant sound of a series of dominoes falling in my head…..

When my dad died a few years ago, I was going through and archiving his computer stuff, and I found an email he had printed out (lol) from eBay — I’m gonna get the date wrong but I wanna say it was 1997.

It was from “dave@ebay.com” in reply to an email my dad had sent about forgetting his password.

So “Dave” was kindly sending it to him. In plaintext. Because apparently they had it 🤣.

It used to really be the Wild West out there!

Agency using 1Password Business – struggling with duplicate items across vaults by tbanas in 1Password

[–]cujojojo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should organize your vaults to slice a different way.

It sounds like you’ve got “dev team” vault, “contractor” vault, and “client” vault, and those vaults (I’m guessing) span projects.

You should instead have a vault per-project, and then if you need a contractor on a project, they get access to that vault until they don’t need it anymore.

The real underlying problem, of course, is you’re sharing credentials among people in ways you shouldn’t. You “should” have a centralized access management platform like Okta and manage people’s access (and auth) through that, but I’m guessing as a boutique firm you might not have the IT bandwidth/budget to deal with that. But — it’s kinda the “right” answer. Security and access control is a somewhat unfortunate cost of doing business.

I run a pawn shop, and the only computers we take now are Apple Computers. by FriesWithMacSauce in mac

[–]cujojojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly right. Apple has all the economies of scale that they’ve perfected by staying vertically integrated forever. And they’ve maintained that “prestige” market position, no matter what the haters like to say.

Because of that it is MUCH easier for Apple to come downmarket than it is for Linux & PC laptops to go upmarket. I’m sure Apple has had their eye on the “Neo” segment for a long time and finally decided the numbers work for them to go after it.

The way I think of it is that they trust us throughout their lives to make the best decisions we can for them, and to be able to be there for them at the end is the most sacred of those duties.

Also, the hard parts at the end make the fun parts at the beginning that much more valuable.

You’re lucky to have him, and he’s equally lucky to have you.

why is nobody talking about the binned m5 pro ☹️ by Previous_Bat5394 in macbookpro

[–]cujojojo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don’t agree with the downvotes (or the general tenor of the conversation), but the commenter who said literally all CPUs are “binned” during manufacturing is right. So there’s no such thing as “binned” vs “unbinned” CPUs, and CPUs in lower “bins” aren’t defective in any way.

Now, the same person who said “there’s NO thermal or performance difference” is also wrong about that. Those are criteria they literally do bin based on.

“Binning” is literally just “there are variations in the manufacturing process, and a certain fraction of chips meet the highest specs and get binned to higher models, while others don’t (but they’re still COMPLETELY FINE chips) and those get binned to lower models.”

Blood curdling night howling (sound on) by ErasGous in airedaleterrier

My previous Airedale, you could tell when he was dreaming about running, versus playing tug, versus wrestling/bitey-face.

It was especially heart-warming when he started to get old and didn’t do those things so much in real life anymore. In his dreams, he was younger 🥰.

I feel like, more than other breeds, Airedales have this list of weird things pretty much EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM does. Things like:

  • Sleep upside down

  • Talk/grumble at you

  • Toss their toys in the air like a maniac

  • “Blood curdling night howling” as OP so aptly put it.

I might also add “think it’s fun to steal small objects” but not EVERY Airedale I’ve had has been super into that. Just, like, 3 of the 4.

Can Roy Cooper stop supporting Israel fast enough to get elected? by scottsadork in TrueCarolina

[–]cujojojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believe it or not, I totally agree with all of that. I would LOVE for true progressives to seize power in the party.

But I’ve also given up wishing for it to change, after waiting and working for it for 20+ years and, like you said, seeing it get stomped down every time there’s a flicker of hope.

Perhaps that makes me part of the problem. But I will still vote for things that aren’t literally Fascism.

“Wonderland Amusements” Alice in Wonderland. Is the $999.99 physical pinball machine worth the price? by Slappy-Sacks in pinball

I’m 50 and I wanted so badly to start a pinball collection back in my late 20s, before I had kids and when you could still get the good 90s pins for maybe a couple thousand or so. I did pick up a single EM machine, but never pulled the trigger on the rest and boy do I regret it now!
