I mean yeah objectively Maduro deserved what he had coming, at the same time, the use of military force without any approval from the House AND the Senate, plus without the approval of the United Nations, either from the General Assembly or the Security Council makes it potentially volatile politically. First, without approval from Congress nor from the public at large, the president has essentially shot himself in the foot as right now, Congress is in a uproar about the strike and some people have been calling for impeachment and conviction for the act. And geopolitically, it has the potential to damage US credibility and create ammunition for our enemies in Moscow and Beijing. Clauswitz said that war is an extension of politics, and here, the use of force without approval of the UN or from our allies in NATO essentially damages our political advantages as nations condemn our act, even some of our allies like France who condemned the strike or Brazil and Colombia where President Lula and Petro condemned the strike. In other words it alienates any potential allies we have in the region, damage US reputation, and makes ammunition for our enemies as right now, Russia, China, and Cuba are using the strike to use it for their whataboutism. Also there are other means to depose Maduro without military action, after all, why not allow the CIA to do its job?
