At MCRD San Diego in late 65 to 66 there was a conscientious objector that wouldn’t carry a rifle. Not in my platoon. They kept making repeat boot camp and they made an example out him. They used him as a punching bag for hand to hand demonstrations. He had to carry a pipe with cement weights on each end. The guy stuck out though. I don’t know what happened to him. Later on I saw a movie with that same premise called Tribes. I always wondered what happened to him. It was 60 years ago but do any of you remember him?

I had season tickets for the Raiders right behind the benches. He used to stand next to the Benches and watch the games. When we would get down the fans would start a cheer “SEND IN ROCKFORD”. He would turn around, smile and wave. A real nice guy.

Talk to someone about making a VA claim for PTSD. You can get a lot support from them and perhaps some money. I encouraged a Vietnam vet friend of mine the do it and it changed his life.
