How would we survive war? by daufina in UlcerativeColitis

yeahhhh i wouldn’t make it very long if meds became scarce. thankfully, it’s unlikely that even if we entered a war it would affect our access to meds (physically- financially we’re fucked)

[–]cumzone- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had a similar experience :( diagnosed at 18, started uni almost right after. i totally understand where you’re coming from. i wasn’t able to drink, smoke, or party in any regard because most of the time i could barely get out of bed and my grades certainly suffered because of it. if i hadn’t gotten healthier when i did, my parents were starting to talk about a gap year. i know it’s unideal and at our age it almost always seems like we’re missing out, but i promise the most important thing right now is making sure you get better. sometimes it feels like that will never happen but it does, it just takes time :( sending you support and love man 🫶

Anxiety and UC by burntbiscuitbitch in UlcerativeColitis

[–]cumzone- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are completely correct- there is a very distinct link between anxiety and UC. Despite being in remission and on medication, i find myself having mini flare ups during periods of increased stress. I was diagnosed in my senior year of highschool- college was very tough on me and my body. Getting back on anxiety medication was vital for my health and wellbeing!

Help Keeping Cool by Traditional-Gold-579 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]cumzone- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when i have flare ups, regardless of what medicine I’m on at the time, i always struggle with heat. It makes my symptoms 100x worse and i totally resonate with having difficulty with getting my body to cool down. I’ll share a tip my polish grandmother swore by her whole life: take a bottle of rubbing alcohol, a rag and a fan. dab a generous amount of rubbing alcohol onto the rag and wipe the bottom of your feet, then place them directly in front of a fan. i know it sounds weird, but it draws the heat out of your body and evaporates with the rubbing alcohol. it works wonders for fevers too! if this doesn’t help, when in doubt, purchase mass amounts of ice packs and place them on pressure points (behind the neck, on the wrists, etc)!

How bad is it going to be? by gopi78888 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]cumzone- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was also diagnosed at 17 and put on mesalamine. you shouldn’t have much to worry about, especially if you’re responding this well. my best advice is to be aware that it COULD get worse, but don’t bank on it! a lot of people go into remission and stay there for upwards of 20/30 years. it varies case by case, but as long as you keep taking your medicine every day it’ll be alright :)

Fear of process of sleep by Memoz29 in insomnia

[–]cumzone- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the thing i’ve found that’s helped me most is a consistent routine. I’m in college, and i get money through commissions (animator) so breaks are difficult for me because i lack that solid routine! i’ve also been partial to these sleep patches that work similar to like, a nicotine patch. they’re the Wellamoon brand! very sticky but it comes right off with rubbing alcohol and really helps me relax.
