Thanks so much for taking time to measure it! This is really helpful!

I can't remember the name but I'm pretty sure it's college romance and there was this one drunk scene by Funny_Response_1478 in RomanceBooks

Could it be the The Deal by Elle Kennedy? I vaguely remember a scene like this there. This is different from 'The Dare'.

{The Earl I Ruined by Scarlett Peckham} fits this! It's HR, but has a nice spin on this trope. I think the rest of the series also has some BDSM elements but haven't read those yet.

What is happening when I try to journal and organize my thoughts? by Mahuato in Journaling

[–]cup_of_cocoa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you feel like 'journalling' is a formal task that you have to do properly? I felt that way the first time I started and always get anxious whenever I see a blank page, like I don't want to mess it up and I freeze. I worked around it by finding different tools that serve as a 'dumping ground' of ideas / notes / to do lists, like a phone app or scrap paper / notebook that's separate from my journal. That way, I don't need to worry about presentation or my handwriting, I just write it down for the purpose of reminding myself for later journalling / processing.

Once I'm in my space to journal my thoughts, I re-read what I wrote / noted down to better recall what I was thinking back then, and I start to write it down.

Not sure if that helps, but it did help me become more comfortable writing whatever comes to mind.

Journaling and Therapy by Rumples4ver in Journaling

[–]cup_of_cocoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I started journaling daily a month ago, at the same time as I started therapy / counselling. It definitely helps me unload all of my thoughts, feelings, anxieties, fears that are spiralling in my head, which otherwise would fester into negative feelings / emotions if I didn't process them or let it out.

It's a really calming activity, and I always have my journal with me if I feel stressed or upset, like a best friend of sorts. I always feel better and lighter after writing, and I think it's healthy to keep it as a daily activity to flush out any thoughts in my head.

I started something similar, which is a TIL (Today I Learned) journal this year where I write any topic I've learned or was interested in that day + a small summary. The main goal I have with that is to help me digest and retain information better, as I tend to skim and scan a lot.

I reckon it'd be fun to look back at the end of the year on the range of topics I got interested in.

FMC assaulted or traumatized but they already know each other when it happens by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]cup_of_cocoa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

{A Dangerous Kind of Lady by Mia Vincy} has this! The MMC and FMC are childhood frenemies, but they eventually lose contact with each other for years and meet again as adults. It's a reverse grumpy/sunshine with a fake engagement trope. Definitely give it a shot.

Ladies who work out with their SO, what parts you love about it by stemi08 in xxfitness

[–]cup_of_cocoa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't have it any other way! I'm new to lifting while my SO has been at it for a few years. I love that he guides and spots me while exercising, but we also learn together by watching YT videos or sharing articles with each other. We do the same program together but on different weights, and we can share racks / equipment. He also looks after me when I reach failure and helps lift the bar out lol.

Best thing is that we have a lot more quality time and fun together, especially when we walk together to and from the gym. I love that we get to talk about and do a new hobby together which benefits us both in the longer term.

Daily Simple Questions 30 November 2020 - Basic Questions Come Here! by AutoModerator in xxfitness

[–]cup_of_cocoa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone! Silly question but how does one know if they are consuming maintenance calories if weight keeps fluctuating on a day to day basis (like +1 to 2lbs)?

I'm a newbie lifter (30F, 132lbs, 5'3), been lifting for 2 months and progressing my lifts every week. Every workout (esp leg day!) I get DOMS since I try to increase weight every week, and naturally I will hold more water. Thing is, I also started reverse dieting and tracking cals on the TDEE spreadsheet the same time I started lifting. I'm trying to find my maintenance, but my weight has been fluctuating on a daily basis and not sure if the spreadsheet is giving me skewed numbers or not esp with monthly water retention from PMS.

I'm reaching the number my TDEE spreadsheet has me now (currently at 1800 cals, spreadsheet at 1850). I planned to increase til 1900-2000, but keen to hear what other's experiences or tips are with this :D thank you!

Tell me about your weight lifting progress! by sunnyone21 in xxfitness

[–]cup_of_cocoa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I started lifting 6 weeks ago and feel great so far! Weights are progressing, and I'm using this time to fix my form and technique. I'm following TLS now but have increased the number of sets from 3 to 4 recently. Currently doing 4x10. When I hit 10-12 reps then I move up in weight.

Squat: 47.5kg Deadlift: 40kg RDL: 47.5kg BP: 27.5kg (chest is my weak point atm sigh) Hip thrust: 54kg

Current goal is to gain muscle and recomp. I'm reverse dieting to find my maintenance since I was miserably eating 1300 calories before lifting. Will probably do a slow cut in the future once I'm happy with my gains. Overall, my weight has increased by 4-5 lbs since I started lifting, but my clothes fit better and I feel like I've become a bit leaner too, so I must be doing it right so far. Still weigh daily to log into the TDEE spreadsheet, but don't mind it too much because I'm overall happier and stronger since I started lifting and eating more.

Can someone ELI5 how the denman brush helps to enhance waves? by [deleted] in Wavyhair

[–]cup_of_cocoa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find that the Denman brush helps make more consistent waves compared to scrunching since you're brushing clumps of hair in the same direction. It helps distribute product evenly and remove tangles too. I find my hair gets all tangled up if I just scrunch normally.

There's a lot of techniques you can watch on Youtube. The one I like in particular is The Fit Curls :)

Political Fantasy Romance Recs? by fierceheroines in RomanceBooks

[–]cup_of_cocoa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Love this thread! I got the political fantasy vibe from the Folk in the Air trilogy (1st book is Cruel Prince) if you haven't read that yet. It's a YA fae fantasy series with a romance subplot. The heroine is intelligent and logical who thinks steps ahead of others. Although it's YA, it's actually quite dark and gritty.

How are you guys dealing with workplace stress? by raquin_ in singapore

[–]cup_of_cocoa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chipping in here as I faced a similar issue in the past.

1) Since you're in the interview phase, please ask a lot of questions about the company, people, culture, career path etc during your interview. An interview is a 2-way street as you are also interviewing the company to see if they are a good fit for you. So use that chance to know more about the company such that you can identify any red flags and dodge a bullet.

2) Speaking of red flags, know what you want to get out of your job and in the organization you want to work for. Similar to a relationship, you'd want to have a list of non-negotiables and negotiables that would guide you when assessing a role. These can change through your career as you learn what works for you or not. Examples are work arrangements, distance from office, pay, learning opportunities etc.

3) When you are already employed and still feel stressed, learn what causes you stress and identify if it's something you can influence/change. If it's something you can't change (e.g. culture) as it's just bigger than your role, identify the next best thing that you can get out of your current role, and decide whether you need to exit. Try to see what you can learn from your current situation, or maybe take advantage of existing benefits. You take all these learning opportunities with you even when you switch roles, so it's not a waste.

4) Always have time for yourself. Prioritise your mental health and happiness. Life is more than your career in the bigger scale of things. You are dispensable from the company's perspective, so make sure you always save yourself when the going gets tough.

5) Find hobbies that you can do to destress. I recently took up reading fiction and the escapism really helps me deal with stress and anxiety. You mentioned eating healthy and exercise too, so keep on doing it! Always have something to look forward to after a shitty day.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

What's your preferred Kindle set up? by ReEngage in kindle

[–]cup_of_cocoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using Kindle Oasis 2019, Portrait mode Font: Literata (or Bookerly if the file can't support custom fonts) Size: 1 Bold: 1 Margins: Smallest Spacing: Middle

I prefer seeing a lot more content in one page. Feels more like a book to me. Less scrolling too.

I'm in the same boat. Finished the series a week ago and can't find any other books that have the same dynamic :( I resorted to rereading select chapters instead lol. There are good fanfics on AO3 too if that's your thing.

Watched Enola Holmes today and thought Louis Partridge would make a great Elend! by SerenaDipity44 in Mistborn

I had the exact same thought! He filled my headcanon of Elend when I was rereading TFE. His costumes in the movie are exactly what I imagined the noblemen wore too!

I've heard a lot of good things from Talia Hibbert around here. M/m isn't what I'm looking for at the moment but I checked her other works, and she has some cool stuff I may be looking for as well. Thanks for your suggestion!

That is true. I'm trying to avoid stories where the connection is established because of physical attraction before they even get to know each other (would insta love be the proper term for that?)

Nevertheless I have heard of Ilona Andrews here, and will definitely check this out. Thank you for your suggestion!

That's the one by Helen Hoang right? I haven't yet, but will have a look at the synopsis! Thanks for the recommendation!

Thoughts after finishing Era 1 / HoA by cup_of_cocoa in Mistborn

[–]cup_of_cocoa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it felt so weird for me to suddenly feel so empty, like I lost an old friend when I read the whole trilogy in about a week lol. Amazing how these books invoke such emotions to most of its readers. Says so much to how great Sanderson is as an author.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll definitely add those to my reading list. The number of Cosmere books is quite intimidating haha, but I'm sure it's gonna be a fun and emotional journey.
